My 'secret weapon' emergency fund are ass pennies... you've all handled them.

... for those who aren't upright citizen brigade fans youtube link (safe)

I checked and there weren't any lines at my local bank so I think I'm safe for now, but I'm keeping an eye on Senator Schumer's website for news of the next collapse.

I was in line @ the bank, when George Baily walked up and asked me how much I need. I said "All of it". Then he begged me to take only what I needed. I withdrew 25 cents for my shave and haircut. He said, "Bless You". I don't remember sneezing.

How come no one else has thought of this?

gatzdon said: Hey, can you do me a favor and withdraw it all in half dollars. You'll have the added bonus that it won't rot, the metal may be worth more than face value when you do finally dig it up, and you'll be able to use a metal detector to locate it after you lose your treasure map (or the unlikely event that you don't know how to draw a map)

Darn it... Now I need a good deal on metal detectors.

JorgeBurrito said:So I went to my local citibank branch to deposit my $100 pay check (thats righ baby, $100, read it and weep) and there was like 3 people in line in front of me to get to the teller. I promptly withdrawed all $400 of my money at Citibank as obviously they are about to go under. I am contemplating burying the money in my backyard and then creating a secret treasure map that I will keep underneath my pillow. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to create a pirate like treasure map? What about where to buy high quality booby traps to guard said money (under $400 would be best)? I looked through hot deals but did not see any booby trap deals.

This post explains why your pay check was only $100!

Is this a joke? The FDIC will guarantee any amount up to $100K, and the US government will NOT let the FDIC fail. (It's way too big and important to go under.) I keep about $5K in various bills in my house, but that's only because I'm paranoid (and it really helped out during 9/11 when ATMs were blinking in and out and it really felt like the world was ending).

You realize 10% of FDIC funds were used to pay Indymac depositors.

Citi is going to go bk, so is Wachovia. It's a pain in the ass to get your FDIC insured money out after the bank goes under.

Did you even look at CitiGroups financials before you made a claim that they are going to go bankrupt???

Citi is no where near bankruptcy:

Citi’s loss per share last quarter was -1.33 (per http://moneycentral.msn.com/detail/stock_quote?Symbol=c )

Per last quarter’s balance statement, equity per share is $24.43 (128.219 billion total equity, divided by 5.249 billion shares outstanding).

Their current liabilities were 1.332 trillion, while their current assets were 1.897 trillion.

They look pretty healthy to me. So, what am I missing?

(I crunched these numbers from the financial statements which are available by msnmoney.com.)

Heard about a newly funded hedge fund who's hiring 100 temps. All they do is get 100 temps to line up outside of a bank and then short the stock.

Step 1: short stock
Step 2: create panic
Step 3: bank run
Step 4: PROFIT!

....its a joke guys...

I dont know if you know alot of citi's assets are depreciating so fast that they can't really even put a number on it. So I wouldn't go by those numbers.
