I'm at 400 so far. I DD'ed at a couple malls to get to that point.

Then today up at T* I got rejected on both cards. After swiping on the laptop it showed that I had already recieved the max. I told the guy I have an authorized user and that might have triggered it, but said thanks anyway and quickly left. I will try the remaining 2 and see what results I get.

Maybe the gravy train is running dry?

Other than that, gotta get more cards either by getting parents / siblings to add you as authorized users. Maybe my Vandelay Industries D* business card needs a new employee. Say... Art Vandelay?

Went to the mall to do this offer today, my discover card was declined on a $10 purchase. So I figure, I might of forgot to activate the new card that I had gotten not to long ago. I call to the number on the back, to my surprise they tell me my account is closed! Grr.. ask for a rep since I never got a letter or anything, turns out they closed it on 8/12! Double grr.. and of course they can't activate it, I just have to get sign up for a new card now.

This is probably normal practice and for so called "security", but it would have been nice if they sent a letter saying they are going to deactivate if I don't use it by 8/12 or perhaps some built in grace period to reactivate.

I suppose I should have went to the mall right away when I saw this post and not be in this predicament, lol.

Does the customer service at the mall mark up the receipt in any way that would later prevent the return of the purchased items?

alert mods

They will stamp the receipt, not necessarily preventing you from returning your purchases, but it may raise suspicions.

One can always use a duplicate receipt, however.

As a good rule, return it to a mall that is not participating in the promotion.

How's everyone doing?

Does the mall cs asked for proof of ID? what happens if you use your wife, daughter, mother cc instead?

I think that before you even get to the mall cs desk, you're going to have cashier's in the store refusing your transactions if you try to use someone else's card.

The last couple times they had this promo, the cs desk person checked my ID vs. name on Discover card, and also checked the receipts to make sure that particular Discover card was used. YMMV

thanks. i guess i am going to drag my relatives to the mall. oh well

The list is now up.

The LA and Inland Empire area of CA actually has more malls this time

Also the list includes the Glendale Galleria. Significance = Target is an anchor there. I didn't reach my limit of 5 cards last year, but if I get $400 or 600 in Target gift cards as a head start...

Plus, I'll be in Pasadena for work Sunday anyway. That makes a 125 mile round trip into only an extra 20 miles.

5 malls off the Balimore Beltway this year, score! A few fewer in the DC area, but I'll take it. First round starts tomorrow.

Ohh no verbal!

Now I have 4 Discover Cards too. We need to Carpool!

alert mods

can't you just buy... pick up gc... return ...?

alert mods

I did my round one in MD, could just cover 3 malls..getting ready for round 2 next week.
No issues, pretty much the same validation that were doing for past 2 years with an old laptop and stamping the receipt.

My first round here at NJ. Bought one expensive watch and ring at Macys, returned the ring with no hassle. But the japanese teller looks at my watch receipt and says I have to return the rewards back.. He saw the receipt stamp and automatically said that. I was afraid of that. Not sure what else to do except try again with another teller but i am afraid no luck since all of them are japanese at the watch dept. Try a supervisor i guess or go to another Macys. Do i need to return it at the particular dept i bought it from at Macys. Gee, i wish they wouldnt stamp the receipt.

Maybe if you explain at the CS desk that you are only going to purchase items to immediately return, they'll just cut out the middleman and hand you a stack of GCs without all the hassle of collecting receipts.

We should all call Discover and demand that they remove the purchase requirement from this promo--everyone should just be given as many GCs as they want.
