In gburg I did a buy/return. The GGP was from Columbia. I bought the GGP cards (Discover, can be use anywhere) to use with the US Mint.

I found the following terms on GGP gift cards. Can someone explain to me how you can use it outside of the malls while the terms seem to be very clear that it can only be used inside mall?

Can I use my GGP Mall Gift Card to make purchases from GGP retailers online?

I hit up one of the local malls yesterday. Got $3k in GGP AMEX gift cards over three discover accounts. I then went on to a Westfield Mall and hit them up for $3k in AMEX gift cards. While I was walking to the customer service desk of the Westfield mall, I made a few purchases of things to throw up on eBay using the GGP Gift cards I got at the first mall(Thus proving that they can be used at other places not just GGP malls).
I also prepaid my Verizon bill using $500 using a $500 GGP AMEX gift card online when I got home.

I then read about GGP's financial woes and decided to call the number on the back of the cards to find out if there would be any problems with the cards if GGP files Chapter 11. I spoke to a manager and explained I had read about GGP's troubles and what it meant to me as a gift card holder. She explained that the card was sold thru GGP as a vendor but American Express underwrites the cards so there should be no problems.

I checked the balance of the GGP card I used to pay my Verizon bill with this morning and it states the balance is -$1. How is that possible? I read the terms and they don't specify any special charges that would be $1.

Ok, I went to pay my Electric and Gas bills online using The AMEX gift cards.....NO GO...(Damn). They do not accept AMEX as a form of online payment.

Anyone have any other ideas of ways to get cash out of these cards besides US Mint deal? eBay is a no go with these according to the AMEX rep I spoke with.

Why is eBay a no go? They are "gift cards", meaning you can give them to others. They may have a prohibition against re-selling them, but IMHO, that's not their damn business. Make sure you don't violate the 1 card per week, 500 max, eBay rule though.

You could also just paypal it to yourself, though that will hit you with a 3% fee (unless you are an active seller, you may get 1.9 percent). You'd still be in profit either way.

VerbalK, just look at the back of the card and the real terms and conditions (not the FAQ or the customer service rep). It clearly states it's good almost anywhere discover is accepted.

For my GGP card, the T&C pretty much state that this won't work.

I have a feeling the computers are somehow reporting/updating to a central location as was mentioned earlier. Or they are communicating to each other in some way.

A friend of mine in the MD area went to 2 malls today that she had not been to yet (she started last week doing the buying/returning).

Anyway, she got declined at them both with the same old "already recieved maximum number of cards deal"

I am going to make a run on as many more malls tomorrow that my time/available CL will allow.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyway, I'd recommend that if you have a high enough CL - you should do as many malls in your area on the same day as possible - just to make sure you don't get jammed before you use up your available CL.

So the game has changed.

New tactic would be to hit all of the malls in one day (assuming you have the CL available to do so). But this does you no good if you are already maxed out for this year.

Even same day is YMMV. One poster over at sd reported being turned down at mall #2 just two hours after hitting the first one.
