Mrs J said I could go ahead with her AOR so long as I took no more than 30 minutes of her time in doing this. I'm doing my best to honor that committment.

BOA approved a $10,000 line for her 8/26/2008 NEA application.

Online consolidation attempt with Citi:08/27/08 ME
Please cosolidate $10,000 credit line from Professional card xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx into $10,000 credit line for my CitiBusiness Platinum Select card xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.

Why must you speak with me directly? Please process the consolidation.

We apologize for any inconvenience this experience may have caused you.

To better assist you, regarding credit line movement we need to speak with you directly. Please contact us at 1-800-950-5114.

It's really not convenient for me to call in. If you need verification information my ssn = xxx-xx-xxxx and DBO = mm-mm-yyyy password for both cards is xxxxxxxxxx.
08/28/08 THEM
We have forwarded your inquiry to the appropriate department. You will receive an email response within 2 business days.
08/29/08 THEM
We are unable to comply with your request to move any portion of your credit limit from this account (8888) to another one. This is due to an active (accepted or solicited) Balance Transfer offer with an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 0.00% - 3.00% and a Balance Transfer fee cap of any dollar amount.

Your account ending in 9999 has a Balance Transfer solicited for 0.00%.

Thats why you have to call in and hope you get a lucky CSR.

Here is another interesting tidbit with Citi. Maybe it's worth ending your AOR with Citi a month early. This way the card you are reallocating FROM may still have a 0% limit (even though its probably due to expire shortly).

Might be worth trying?

Was your email inquiry done to the professional rep or business, or can you tell? It sounds like it may have been processed by a personal rep, because that's their standard answer.

Personal reps are freakin' useless. If you can go through a business or at least professional CSR... that's your best bet.

I'd like to open an EZChecking or USA account and fund it with Mrs J's CASH Returns card.

I had an online chat with a citibank rep:

Stephen Pina: Hello MRS JACKCRAWFISH. Welcome to Citibank! How may I help you?
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: Can I fund a new checking account (opening deposit) with a credit card?
Stephen Pina: Thank you for your interest in Citibank, it is my pleasure to assist you today.
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: If it's a Citi credit card, will it be treated as a purchase or cash advance?
Stephen Pina: Yes, you can fund a new checking account with a credit card. This will show on the credit card as a purchase.
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: When do I need to provide the funding? Immediately, or can I wait to fund it 30 days from now?
Stephen Pina: I regret that if you plan to use a credit card for your initial deposit this must be done immediately.
Stephen Pina: You can make an initial deposit at a later date; however, you will not be able to use the credit card.
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: I am about to proceed with the account opening online. Is there a spot to provide my credit card information or will I have to call in?
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: Will there be a hard inquiry on my credit report if I apply for a new EZChecking under my current Citibanking login?
Stephen Pina: I regret that I have provided you some misleading information. I apologize that I did not notice that you already have a Citibank account.
Stephen Pina: Only new to the bank clients can fund an account with a Credit card.
I'll simply close and then applyMRS JACKCRAWFISH: OK. Thanks for clarifying. Is there a ceiling on the amount of an opening deposit done via credit card?
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: My husband might apply.
Stephen Pina: With your current accounts you have the option to fund the account from you current accounts only.
Stephen Pina: Can you please excuse me for a minute, or two, while I research that information for you?
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: Yes. Also, if you please, "Is there a spot to provide his credit card information or will he have to call in?"
Stephen Pina: Thank you for your patience, I have found that there is a maxim limit of $100,000.00 when using a credit card to fund the account. The credit card option only allows Visa or MasterCard.
Stephen Pina: With the application there is a soft credit inquiry.
Stephen Pina: The third step of the application will allow you to provide his credit card information. He will not need to call. MRS JACKCRAWFISH: Which credit reporting agency will Citibank use for the soft inquiry?
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: Thank you for your thorough answers. I appreciate all the help.
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: Do you know which credit reporting agency will Citibank use for the soft inquiry?
Stephen Pina: We can use all three of the credit bureaus, Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian.
MRS JACKCRAWFISH: That's all I have for now. Thanks again.
Stephen Pina: Thank you for participating in Citibank Chat. Have a good day.

You are now disconnected

As usual with Citi reps, there is a bit of truth and plenty of misleading info there. When you fund via credit card, you don't have to do it immediately. I don't know the exact time limit, but I did it about a week after applying online without a problem. It is done via faxing or mailing a form that you print out, so obviously they need to allow enough time for the mail to arrive. When you apply and choose credit card funding, the application will provide the link to the PDF to print and fax.

You don't have to be new to the bank to fund the account with a credit card, but you must 'act' like you are new when you apply online. Just make sure you don't login before applying. Use the long application forms where you must type in all your info.

Also, it is a hard credit pull when you open the account. For me, it was TU.

Citi CASH Returns card declined this afternoon over the lunch hour:

  • Account Alert: A review of this account has shown recent high-risk activity. Please contact our Customer Service Unit at 1-800-950-5114

I made a $2,000 coin purchase and attempted a 2nd $2,000 coin purchase (both 28 days ago). The 2nd attempt was not processed by US Mint (same address) and I haven't bothered removing the authorization.

Otherwise, I've been doing the everyday stuff like groceries, lunch and fuel...

In other news... TU Bumpage today...

  1. 9/9/2008 opened Citi deposit accounts and faxed credit card funding form with CASH Returns card for a paltry $4,000 to test the b*tchslap process.
  2. 9/10/2008 converted Citi Professional card to vanilla Platinum Select (so as to enable consolidation into CASH Returns card). I observed the last 4 digits of new card number online immediately
  3. 9/10/2008 (later) Armed with last 4 digits of new card type, I called to consolidate the vanilla Platinum Select into CASH Returns. DENIED... supervisor told rep to tell me I wait a few days for card conversion to fully settle down
  4. 9/10/2008 same call asked for Associated Bank card to consolidate into CASH Returns card. APPROVED! Finally after 6-10 different tries to get Associated Bank consolidated into CASH Returns card... success! NEW LINE = 22,300
  5. 9/10/2008 opened another set of deposit accounts with Citibank (b*tchslap2.0 coming) Faxing CC funding form ASAP.

edit: At one point during my secure messaging reallocation process, a response from Citi came as we are unable to process your request through Secured Messaging which is why we have notified you through previous messages to contact us

In other words... quit emailing and call us.

crap...

I was excited to fund a savings account with a CASH Returns credit card but I've confirmed with multiple CSRs and other sources that the technical issues where CASH Returns card funding transactions were posting as purchases have been corrected. Now any funding ideas I had have been squashed because these will post now as a cash advance and incur a 3% uncapped fee...

what a crock...

I don't know how to link to a specific fatwallet post, but this might be a good rewards strategy for you, depending on how fast you can cycle through it:

It's the 5th post down about facecard. Unfortunately, I didn't get in on the 5% Cash Back rewards card in time, but now that I'm aware of it and strategies to maximize profits, I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on one.

Do you have an AAFCU account? There's no limit there. BoA I think does have a limit.

the CASH Returns card was being closed today due to recent information contained in a credit report. A letter will be mailed which will advise of the agency used in this decision.

MikeR397 got his and his sister's reopened so I'm not too worried.

The only thing which I'm concerned about is whether the 5% for 90 days will still be in play once reopened.

Oh BTW, they closed her 10,000 CitiBusiness card and recently converted from Professional to Platinum Select card too...

alert mods

What does her credit report look like now? How many new accounts, how many inquiries, what was the change in debt? Do you know which bureau citibank pulled yet?

alert mods

Hey Jack... might want to check to make sure your own Citi accounts are still open.

There is an easy way to find this out without calling them. Log into your CitiCards.com account for any Citi card you own.

Then go to Balance Transfers and select VIEW OFFERS. (I believe this is the way to do it).

If you see 0% offers there, you are fine. If it says they can't process it and to call them, you got problems.

ETA: Actually you log into CitiCards.com then go to Manage Your Account, Balance Transfers, Request a Transfer.

If they show you your BT offers you are fine. If they say an error has occured and give you a phone number to call them you got problems and your accounts are probably closed.

Yes please post this info if you can. Citi is really starting to become the bitch of CC issuers.

Specifically number of new inquiries, number of new credit cards accounts, and the number of cards that have balances (and how many).

I think Citi is more concerned about new accounts only a month or two old than anything else. How many new accounts does she have?

I had somewhere around 7-10 new accounts on my first AOR and Citi said Seeya.

I think it's safe to say that she has several new accounts, several new inquiries, and more debt than before. This is true for most of us doing these A0R's.

Both my wife and I did A0Rs this year, including new Citi Cards, and neither saw adverse action...but I chose to lay low for a few months and not do anything other than a few small purchases with the Citi Cards.

I think the question is what triggered the additional review? I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the Cash returns card being declined for the coin purchases and undergoing an account review. As posted earlier, he received this message: "Account Alert: A review of this account has shown recent high-risk activity. Please contact our Customer Service Unit at 1-800-950-5114"

Citi's policy is traditionally to close all accounts, if they decide to close one. I only asked them to reopen my and my sisters CR card, and nothing else, which is all they did. With respect to my parents old cards, I asked them to open card each for them (non CR card), and Citi refused to open any of their's. Go figure, the kids of the house without a job end up getting a $25k and $29k CL while the parents who make the money and have the established credit get $0 credit. Good luck.

I'm still waiting on the official notification from Cit as to which agency was used for determining closure of all accounts.

as of 2008-09-16:

                 TU EQ EX
new inq 0 16 3
new accts 11 11 11
revolv line 100300 100300 100300
rev bal 37600 37600 37600
util 38% 38% 38%

With all this market volatility, I'm tempted to throw 20% of arbitrage $$$ into a mutual fund...
