11 new accounts, 37K of new debt, and, if experian, a few new inquiries? yeah, I guess that could spook them.

As for putting 0% money in stocks, a hoary "rule of thumb" is to not allocate more of your portfolio into stocks than you can stomach taking a 50% loss on. So a 20% allocation would result in a loss potential of 10% of your portfolio, 50% stock allocation could result in 25% loss in your portfolio.

It's geared towards somewhat longer periods (2000-2002, or the 70's), but it's probably still adequate for an AOR. If you had a shortfall of 10% of your AOR money... how would you make it up?

Based on the OP, it looks like Citi pulled EQ for every Citi app. If they checked her EQ report again and found 16 new inquiries, that would surely spook them.

alert mods

no man at one time i had like 30 inquiries. the thing that pisses off citi is if they pull EQ this month then pull EXPERIAN the next month and find something that was not on the EQ report. like a negative. that will royally piss them off.

they used to do this. however if you had alot of "Baddies" on the original EQ report they wouldn't take adverse action.

i think we need to milk citi for what we can until they sell their car portfolio completely to chase before the ship sinks!

I am really surprised they didn't close your Citi accounts too. Usually they club the entire household.

7 inquiries bumped off from EQ. Her EQ FAKO went from 680 up to 695:

FIRST USA 07/30/2008 Equifax
CITI 07/30/2008 Equifax
CITI 07/30/2008 Equifax
CBUSA/CBSD 07/30/2008 Equifax
USBK 07/30/2008 Equifax
CHASE 07/30/2008 Equifax
ADVANTA 07/30/2008 Equifax

She uses 5 services mentioned here and she added Credit Check Total a week ago based on a 19.95 per month retention offer discovered by yours truly.

She'll bump the remaining EQ and then cancel all services (all they're good for is bumpage anyway).

Mrs J received the official Citi closure letter on 9/26. The date on the letter was 9/17 (one day following verbal notification here).

Immediately following the verbal indication of closure, I disputed some balances and accounts at EQ, TU and EX to see what softs, if any, were done to my report.

From EQ, the following Citi related inquiries:

AR-Citi Cards Cbsdna 2 Huntington Quadrangle Melville, NY 09/12/2008 09/09/2008
Citibank USA Na 09/09/2008 (hard inq as part of a new 0 balance
                                                                          Ultimate Money Account)
Cashedge Citi 694 Tasman Dr Milpitas, CA 09/09/2008 (soft related to
                                                                          Ultimate Money Account)
AR-Citibank PO 15109 Wilmington, DE 08/29/2008
AR-Citi SD Business Card MC 8775 Batpine Rd Jacksonville, FL 08/29/2008
AR-Citi Cards Cbsd PO 6500 Sioux Falls, SD 08/29/2008
TU had only a single soft review from Discover... nothing from Citi.EX had only CHASE soft inquiries... nothing from Citi.Partial text from the official Citi letter:
  • we have closed your accounts ... based on information obtained from [Equifax] ... specifically, your report indicates too many recently opened accounts.
  • If your credit report is not accurate and you would like us to reevaluate our decision, please send us your request with an updated copy of your credit report within 60 days to ....
  • Should you request your accounts reopened in the future [i assume this means beyond 60 days], we may review your consumer credit report at that time.
  • If you have questions, please call our Credit Management department at 888-302-9291.

as of 2008-09-29 credit report:

                 TU EQ EX
new inq 0 1 3 (EQ inq is a result of 9/9/2008 Citi UMA account - all others were bumped)
new accts 7 7 7 (excludes Citi)
revolv line 58000 58000 58000 (excludes 18500 LOC accounts)
revolv bal 28710 28710 28710 (figure includes benefit of 8k BOA payoff)
revolv util 49% 49% 49%

She just paid off the BOA card today...I think we'll wait for credit reports to update before calling in to get accounts reopened. From what I understand in MikeR397's thread here, the 5% is still good upon re-open (I only hope she'll have a new 90 intro window available).

Mrs J's 1st CASH Returns card was closed approx 9/16 due to too many recently opened revolving accounts.

Her reevaluation to reopen from 10/25 was denied for a slightly differing reason: too many open revolving credit accounts.

Mrs J was denied a Citi card applied for on 10/31/2008. The email denial notice said "The credit privileges on your existing account(s) are currently restricted."

I'm going to call and ask how many revolving accounts she might need to close in order to have her account re-opened.

Jack - I must be a wimp. Applying for a card from an issuer that just took AA against you 6 days earlier seems rather ballsy, no?

alert mods

Absolutely.

It was a risk versus reward thing.

RECAP:

09/16: Citi closed all of Mrs Jackcrawfish's accounts (ADVERSE ACTION)
10/25: Citi credit management denied reopen request
(1st attempt to reverse adverse action)
10/31: With nothing further Citi can take from Mrs J, attempted application for new card
(logic: in the same manner they deny CLI requests but grant new approvals if
applying for new card, she applied for a new card to test)

alert mods

I did a similar thing. After maxing out all the cards I got from Citi (2), I applied for a new AMEX Platinum card since Chase changed by rewards plus card. I figured the worst thing they can do is deny me, then close down some accounts I don't use. I'd still pay back the AOR money in a year. I got approved for $26,500. But they reduced one of my other Citi CC (my oldest CC) from $25,000 to $500 since I don't use that card at all anymore. Works for me.

I have yet to receive any AA from any company. And have received a steady stream of pre-approvals since. You must have really spooked them.

No Income verification call to my wife....... wait... on the app as I recall there was a spot for employment verification... I gave them the 800 number for my wifes fortune 500 employer (provided them the access code and everything).
There were 4 checks included in IBERIA welcome package. Every check was labeled in caps "VALID FOR BALANCE TRANSFER ONLY"

I think IBERIA treats balance transfers in a similar "delay-able" manner like Citi does...

Per terms and conditions:

Your APR for balance transfers processed within 3 months of your account open date will be zero percent for the first six billing periods from the posting date of the balance transfer check

I might utilize the card for a few purchases and initiate a BT on November 1st, 2008 (maybe rates will go up - inflation's over 5% now)...
As most of you already know, BOA is a great card to BT str8 to checking for no fee. It makes a great laundry card in that one can BT multiple times.

Mrs J's Iberia card still had an untapped $0 fee BT offer that had to be initiated within 1st 90 days following open date... so....

We sent payment to BOA on 10/30/2008. Payment posted to BOA (11/2/08) and subsequently to Iberia card (11/3/08).

Iberia card showed no fee for the BT.

Citi did not approve her application for credit - as expected, they cited recent adverse activity as the reason.

Citi did not approve her application for credit - as expected, they cited recent adverse activity as the reason.
She applied again on January 9th of this year and was denied for the same reason: recent adverse action (albeit >3months ago). We made no phone calls to dispute their decision.
