I am completely confused by US Bank... Here is a timeline of what happened.
- Using the CC application status check thread I called US Bank PERSONAL - 800-545-7899
- Told that my application had been approved (automated)
- Continued on, further into the menu. I was told my current available credit for purchases was $15,000.
- Called US Bank BUSINESS - 800-364-9648
- Told that my card was approved and I have a limit of $25,000 (Live CSR).
- Later in the day, got a call from Biz CSR asking to confirm business with federal paperwork. Was told that I was denied because I didn't have anything they could use.
- Decided to wait some time, and call back again to sort it all out.
- 4 hours later called US Bank BUSINESS - 800-364-9648
- Told to DISREGARD rejection, and that I was definitely APPROVED for $25,000
- I asked specifically, which card was I approved for. Told that it was for the Linux PERSONAL card. I then tell the CSR that I have 2 active apps. He said the biz app was still processing.
- Called US Bank PERSONAL - 800-545-7899
- Told I was approved for $15,000 (automated).
So now I have no idea what I have. Do I have a personal for 25k? 15k? Do I have a biz card? I don't know why there system is messing with me, but I'm gonna wait for either a welcome package or a rejection letter before I confirm that any US Bank card was approved... |

I've had US bank approve, then ask for various docs, and ask probing questions, only to shut me down. It was from an account review. I would also like to add, having a biz website can result in banks approving 25k left and right. I'd say at least 1/3 of the banks actually visited the site, and spending extra to have it look professional was worth it. US Bank is pretty conservative. I wouldn't try going for more than 1 or 2 US Bank or Elan cards. |

So, for business cards, this is what I've learned:
- Apt number in the biz address is an instant red flag. Both Discover and US Bank asked me about that. I guess I would be curious too if I was looking at the form.
- Using my name as the biz name was also something that struck the 2 banks as odd...
- Discover recognizes that a company that is a sole proprietorship does not need a federal ID of any kind
- US Bank (at least the CSR that called me) needed more proof than others
- Discover (at least in my case) checks Business credit reports attached to the ID (my SS)
- A business checking account can be useful. Since you can open one up just like you do with some biz CC. It can be used to prove that you are a legitimate business.
- US Bank has a bad system in that they get confused between my personal and biz app, and don't know what they approved me for...
- Doing a Discover personal and biz application too quickly together MAY result in one being canceled. The CSR said that they thought I changed my mind and canceled one app.

Got a lot of cards today...2 Discover, Chase Amazon, BOA NEA, and get this...US BANK Linux card. So I'm calling to activate my cards, and US Bank comes up. 3 calls, transferred 3 times to a voice mail in account investigation. I'm thinking here's what happened. After all my calls to US Bank (because they wouldn't give me a straight answer on what I was approved for an how much), the last CSR decided it was her duty to mark my account for fraud. How annoying... I'm being treated like a criminal at this point. I'm calling them tomorrow. Will update later. On a bright note, IF I get approved, it shows a $25,000 CL. |

Park your cash in near term junk bonds. I'm not talking distressed debt, but you can find junk bonds in the A- range yielding 9-10%. After tax thats 7.2-7.5% for most of us. Its definitely not without some risk, but the historic default rates on non-distressed debt is around 2%/year. Even in the event of default you WILL have time to get out before chapter 11 as several tranches of credit downgrades over time. Or hell if you really like the roulette wheel WAMU debt is yielding 23% for subordinated notes. Its a bigger gamble than WAMU equity in the sense that everyone knows WAMU equity is going to -0- but this debt could survive. I'm in near term junk bonds. Wouldn't touch anything below A- rated in your situation though as the money has to be there for you. The only thing is you will take a hit on the buying transaction cost (1%), but not on the redemption if you hold them until maturity. I've already made some good $ off of countrywide debt and now am in CIT and Standard Pac near term debt. So whats 1% over the life of the bond if you're getting 8+%/year or more? Fidelity's gonna get their cut one way or another.. |

You know, once in a rare while, you see a case where calling up a bank and arousing their CSR's attention actually causes far more harm than whatever help it might have gained. I think what I remember reading about previously was triggering the wrath of a Chase credit ninja. The repeated calls to US Bank for app status checking may have exacerbated this. (then again, they did call YOU asking for docs, so it may be unrelated). But in general, I try not to call (or at least talk to a human) for at least two weeks after the app. A little self-imposed patience. It's tough. |

But in general, I try not to call (or at least talk to a human) for at least two weeks after the app. A little self-imposed patience. It's tough. So, with all the other banks I didn't really do any of this. Discover called me once about the biz card, and I called them once about the canceled personal. US Bank was just a special situation in that I had thought I was approved for both, got a call, rejected on biz, then couldn't verify what my CL was. The calls just kept getting passed around until the last person just flagged me. She passed it off as normal verification though. I know I'm ripping CC companies off, but I have to say US Bank has been the most annoying and troublesome. Today I will be faxing over a pay stub to Discover. I received 5 letters from Discover at once yesterday. 2 cards, 1 letter asking for more info for biz, 1 letter saying my 2nd app was a duplicate and was canceled, 1 saying that if I verify my income, they would increase the initial $10,000 CL. I'm having an pleasant experience with Discover so far. Their calls and letters have been extremely fast, and their CSR have been very helpful. |

- 8/26/08 - Call from BOA fraud department... Oh dear. They asked me some personal questions to verify that it was me who applied for the card, and that I did in fact asked for a $10,000 BT to my checking. Said funds will be in on Friday.
- 8/26/08 - Got my Advanta card. Called to activate and immediately asked for a direct deposit of $10670 into my checking. Offer ends 11/19/09. Sweet!
- 8/27/08 - Checked my Discover personal account today. $10,000 CL has been upped to $20,000 after I faxed them my pay stub.

OK, I think I might be getting in trouble here, and I need help from some experts. Advanta, who instantly approved me, and activated fine, and had initially approved a BT of $10k+ just blocked my access to the online account. I called them and they transferred me to verification department and I was asked for: Driver License SS Card Util Bill Biz License That's 3 CC companies asking for additional proof. Is this normal? Why am I having so much trouble? I can understand being denied and stuff, but why is it that AFTER I get accepted I am getting all these additional calls? Did I do something fundamentally wrong? Am I gonna get in trouble? I can provide everything listed except the Biz License. What should I do? Should I just give up? HELP!!! |

Has the Advanta deposit hit your account yet? I'd wait to see if it hits. Then, after it hits, I'd comply with their request as best as possible. But don't send a biz license, since you don't have one. If you are submittin them by fax or whatever, just send the other docs. If you are actually talking to a person, I'd just say "It's a sole prop and I don't have one yet and/or my city doesn't require one". Then, leave the cash in the same account for a little bit in case Advanta tries to reclaim it, depending on how the process works with them. (don't want to bounch a $10k transaction with your bank). If they don't, transfer it to wherever. |

So I doubt Advanta will actually make the transfer. My online account was showing it pending, then got locked out this morning. Someone at the Business Card thread suggested I apply for a tax ID number which I am considering. If I get it, perhaps I can get a 2 for 1 and get the US Bank biz approved as well. |

- 8/29/08 - US Bank personal verified me and activated my card. They said my biz app was withdrawn because I was unable to give them documents. Whatever, it was only a 6 month 0% term anyways. I'll let it go.
- 8/29/08 - Reallocated $5100 from Discover biz to Discover personal. The Discover biz doesn't have a 0% offer, so this is just to increase the amount I can do a BT for on the Personal.
- 8/29/08 - Called Citi biz to do some reallocation. Put in a request to move $24,000 from Citi dividend MC to biz. Gave him first 4 digets of dividend AMEX before he stopped me and said AMEX isn't possible at all. Said same thing about Professional. Will wait to see how the request goes and then try to close out Associated Bank and move to Biz so I can BT all of it.

How did you get the reallocation from biz to personal? did you let them do a hard pull? my experience and ahself I was going to attempt this myself next month. Glad to see you got some success. Two questions, did you call a business CSR or a personal CSR? Also did you close the biz account and consolidate, or did you just leave a minimum limit on the biz? I definitely wouldn't mind doing this type of reallocation biz to personal because Discover IMO is a little too nosey in their questions when giving out business credit. |

You aren't going to be able to do any reallocations with the AMEX. Even though it has a limit, Citi says it's really a no preset limit card. The PreimierPass Elite card is the same. I had to have my PremierPass Elite card converted to a Diamond before I could reallocate.
They should be able to reallocate the Professional though. Call back and speak to someone else. |

Noted on the professional. I am gonna call back and try again. I am actually gonna try and close it out and consolidate it. The professional is one of the better cards to apply for with its 0%, and points after 1st purchase. I plan to apply to them again in a 2.0. About Discover: By FAR the best CC company experience so far. What I did was, I called the personal CC number (1-800-Discover) and asked "Do you allow reallocation of CL limits between cards" They turned me down right away and said no, they don't allow that. Knowing that sometimes biz side is more responsive, I called the biz CSR on the back of the card (1-888-Discover) and asked, "I'd like to reallocate some CL between 2 cards." I made sure not to tell them which card to which. I was transferred to new accounts dept. The guy asked me for the 2nd account number and said, it seems you have one biz card and one personal. How much do you want to transfer from your personal to your biz. I told him, actually, I want to do it from biz to personal. He asked me how much, and then proceeded to lower my biz. He said he needed manager approval to raise my personal, but he was "sure it will be approved" and told me to check my account 10 mins later. Sure enough, it all worked! To DjPiLL: I left the biz card open with $5000. I need to spend $1000 in 3 months to get a $100 back. I will spend $2100 to pay for a class in a few days. I will have 1 year to pay this off at 0%, and my company will reimburse me the $2100 in 3 months. I had planned to do this all along, but $10,100 was too much for me to try and spend. Hence the reallocation. |

I mean, I got pulled each time for a card anyways, and I won't need any more until my next AOR, so my score will reset from pulls in plenty of time. |
