I was looking for most cost effective way to transfer money to india. Time is NOT of essence (i.e it's fine even it takes 4-5 days if I am getting better exchange rate.)

I am aware that there are different ways of doing this like:

1. Use online services providers like remit2india, ICICI, HDFC, SBI et al and transfer money to india.
2. Write a check in favor of the person concerned in India.
3. Open NRI account and allow access to person concerened in India.

I fail to understand which service and most importantly which financial institution would better serve the purpose.

I also understand that rates for online transfer are also dependent on amount of money that one intends to transfer, that again might impact which fin. inst. to go with.

As I have very little or zero experience in trandferring money to India or otheriwse, I was wondering if fellow junta (mates) could provide their invaluable input so I can get best rupee value for every dollar transferred to India.

I highly appreciate your reponse in this regard.

Thanks

Deja Vu?
I think it has been asked a dozen times at least. I don't want to be rude, racist etc, but hasn't "searching" caught on in India?
