Still no action on BOA, and no US Bank card yet... I have a bad feeling about the US Bank for some reason.

One prob, my citi biz check came addressed to my business name. I put my eBay sellers id as the biz name, but I don't have any business checking accounts. Anyone have any problems like this. I plan to try a bank of america or pnc, show them the full check with my home address, show my credit card with both my name and my business name, and see if they will cash it. I suppose I might be able to open a checking account in my biz name as well, though I remember at one bank I'd need some documentation first.

I've never had an issue with depositing virtually anything, when using a bank that I'm a familiar face at.

Goddamn. Tried three banks today, including citi... none would cash my check. Called citi business, they can't cancel the check, and I will have to wait 90 days for it to expire. My only option now is to try to open a business checking, which requires some registration with the state of maryland. Likely not going to happen. God damn.

you can try to deposit the check at an ATM?

I thought about it, but figured then I might get stuck in a situation where my CC would be charged, and the check still denied. It's only 9900, I can't still get 7 months or so of interest on it after my credit line is released, so I'm not totally screwed.

It looks like it costs 25 bucks to get a "Doing Business As" registration. 50 to expedite it. It may be something worthwhile for bank bonuses anyway.

Worth the trouble?

And more freaking garbage with US Bank. The second call to increase the credit limit caused some problems. I talked again to the orginal guy, who sounded kind of offended that I would call back to alter our orginal deal. He is going to try to "resurrect" the card again. Blah... Bad day in AOR 2.0

I had the same issue. I opened a checking at Chase. Got $100 to boot. Promo is over now. I do have a you get 50 I get 50 promo code if you need it.

Lesson for everyone. If you have a sole proprietorship without a fictitious name, use your name as the name of the business (because that's what it is).

Indeed. While I was once able to deposit a check in my eBay "business" name that doesn't have a business checking account, I may have just gotten lucky.

The other lesson would be to just register a DBA and get a business checking account, it is likely to come in handy in the future anyway.

I still fail to see the issue. Endorse the check however it is titled, then go to the bank and deposit it. Its a proper endorsement, and there's no rule requiring that you can only deposit checks made out to yourself. I deposit third-party checks all the time.

I hope this information will be useful for someone.
All my applications were declined only due to the fact that I'm currently carrying balances about 35% of my stated annual income.

Thank you for this information.

Even "non-negotiable" balance transfer checks? I tried to do that last AOR when I wasn't sure BT checks could be in my name. I sent it to my roommate, then did a "pay to the order of" on the back. It was rejected by Bank of America. I guess I'll try it again at a ATM and see what happens.

I sent it to my roommate, then did a "pay to the order of" on the back. Dont even do that. Just sign it and deposit it like anything else. In my experience, its better not to ask - if you dont, niether will most banks/tellers.

Edit: When you say "cash" you do mean "deposit", right? Cause there's no way in hell you will get a check like that actually cashed.

Yeah, deposit. Problem is I already signed the check, out of force of habit. Maybe I just drop it into an atm and give it a shot.

I had the same problem with a citibank BT check made out to "[last name] Consulting". No one would cash it.

I had to call citibank, they said they'd put a stop on the check, wait a couple weeks, and reissue a new one in my name. I recommend calling again.

Incidentally, the citibank CSRs also mentioned this is what happens when you request a BT online, but if you do it over the phone, they can make it payable to your individual name.

VerbalK said: Yeah, deposit. Problem is I already signed the check, out of force of habit. Maybe I just drop it into an atm and give it a shot. How is a business supposed to do business? In one deposit, I generally have checks made out to Ty Shoelace, Ty Schulace, Schulace Inc, Schulace Co., Shoolaces R Us, etc., etc. I stamp them all with the same stamp. I never ever had a problem like this, even when I forgot to stamp them, or when the front of the check doesn't have a payee (customer expected me to fill it in but I forgot).

With a check like this, I suggest signing it once just as it's made out, once more with your name, acc #, and "for dep only." Then mail it off to a rewards checking or other out-of-town account if you're having trouble in person.

I dropped the check in an ATM last night, along with my Nat City Check. The national city is showing up as posted, and funds available. The citi isn't showing up at all, not a good sign. I expect to get it back in the mail in a couple weeks saying uncashable.

All I'm waiting on now is my US Bank card, and my 13K overpayment check from Boa. I'm tearing my hair out figuring out where to put all the funds. I was all set to move some to my Fidelity account with that tax free muni money market sweep last week, but I neglected to remember it had an old checking account number. So I had to redo that process today. I also just xfered 20 grand into my WAMU, the day the rates dropped. So that going back to Countrywide while my provident account gets set up. I officially have too much going on right now.

On a positive note, I'm seeing some EQ bumpage. 3 of the 4 old ones are now gone, and my TU shows as being clear, though I understand they might pop back up.

Good news, the 9900 dollar check appeared in my checking account overnight, and is showing as available. I'm still wary, so will leave it in place until citi shows the check as cashed. Now all that's left is US Bank and my BOA balance refund check. I opened a ProvBank Checking yesterday to replace WAMU. I'm considering opening another rewards checking, but the debit requirements are a pain. So far I'm spread out between Fidelity, Charter, and no ProvBank.

Bumpage complete. Looks to be perfect timing as TrueCredit and Chase we due to be rebilled tomorrow. Chase said I'll get a refund for the first month too. Bonus!

Man, everyone is so sorry to lose me. Don't I want protection? Am I some sort of fool for not wanting daily email alerts?

I couldn't get a refund for AMEX CS, which just rebilled yesterday, but hopefully Chase would have been free, Truecredt will have been just one cycle, and AMEX for two cycles. I canceled the citi thing during the free promo, even though I should get it for free with my Citi Plat AMEX. I might try to sign up again, though I would hate to have to listen to them whine again. I still have that EQ gold, which I believe was 3 months for free, may want to verify though.

Called BOA and canceled the refund check and did another BT. Also finally got my US Bank Card. It has a 15K limit, which is a number NEVER discussed in any of my phone convos. That doesn't cover my intial BT, so I'm going to wait a couple days to see if I get an explanation, then see if I can shift some credit line around (I still have 15K on my Baylor). Also got my CardSelection check, and all my TYPs. What is the annual limit on TYPs (110K)? I may get close to that by the new year.

Called US Bank a few days ago, asked about moving another 10K from Baylor to Irish. A different guy said no problem and two days later it's there. Requested a 21K BT. I hope I'm not pushing it with BOA.

For chase-- I have a similar TU score and was denied 1 personal and 1 biz apps. recently. Various bogus reasons in the letter.
Called lending dept. said 4 new accounts opened was the REAL reason...wtf are those letters then?
I have 4 accounts (1 chase,3others) opened in march. I didn;t think of it earlier
but i'll call again and see if can close 1 chase card to get approved for a new one.
It sucks to be denied by them as I use my freedom card the most.

Point of interest, I thought it would be quicker to use the BOA convenience checks instead of calling for a ACH to checking... mistake. It's going to take over two weeks to clear my BOA checking account, losing interest all the while. Stay with the phone call to ACH to checking from now on.

My checks, no matter where from or for what amount, are always made available next-day at BofA. My other banks vary.

It may also have to do with whether you deposit them via the ATM or with a teller. Tellers and CSRs will tell you there's a 5-10 business day hold on large checks. I've never experienced a hold on a large check deposit via an ATM.

Best to deposit directly into your high yield checking or savings account so there isn't any interest lost. Obviously if the high yeild account is not local ACH is the way to go when avalible.

Yay... I got my first AA, and once again it's from Chase. They yoinked my only credit line with them down to 12,500, just a few hundred over my balance. I'm going to call and see if they will reconsider, as I don't want this high balance ratio rippling through the rest of my cards. I expect my Wamu 7K line will be up for a hatchet next. Juniper and Discover are on deck.

Take the good with the bad... Since I brag when I succeed, I guess I should fess up when I eff up.

So Chase... I still have about 11.5K with them at 0%. So in January I closed my old chase checking and opened a new for the bonus. I normally pay all my bills via BOA, but since I had about 250 bucks in this new chase checking account, I thought it would just be quicker and easier to pay it with the chase checking instead of setting up a new ACH to get the cash out of the account. Well chase online payment screen was still showing my old checking account, not the new one. I caught the mistake two days after the due date. bang, 39 dollar returned check fee, and just got a 174 dollar finance charge.

Chase said they reinstated the 0 percent rate (via email), but no word on the fees or the finance charge. Lesson, learned... be consistent, and/or be extra careful when you are altering your routine.

Update, apparently my promo is safe, got the 39 dollar returned payment fee refunded, and HALF of the charged interest. So it looks like I'll be out close to 80 bucks. Oh well.
