My experience is ACH counts as DD and you get the bonus right away. (This is my 4th account with M&T. All previous 3 get bonus easily) You can keep it open for 6 months and close it after that.
If you open Free account, you get 25. Then put it into drawer for 6 months. If you open Direct account, you get 100. You have to do repeated ACH push from HSBC,ETRADE for 6 months. Otherwise $6 fee applies
FYI I opened both in the past.

You can open both at the same time and get 100+25?

Not same time but one/two weeks later. However, I do not see any problem to open it at the same time. YMMV
Did any of you all notice this little bit in the "Specific Features And Terms For M&T Direct Checking Accounts" document?
BONUS FOR FUNDING VIA ACH DURING ONLINE APPLICATION OR FOR ESTABLISHING DIRECT DEPOSIT: We will credit one bonus (the “Bonus”) to the account if you make a qualifying ACH deposit into the account. A qualifying ACH deposit can be either (1) the first deposit you make into the account if made by ACH transaction authorized during your online account application, or (2) a direct deposit into the account made within 90 days of account opening. Bonus will be credited to the account on the business day following the day on which we credit such qualifying ACH deposit to the account. The account is eligible for only one Bonus regardless of the number of qualifying ACH deposits made to the account. If the zip code entered on the “Your Banking” page of the online application for your account is within: (1) Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, or West Virginia, the amount of the Bonus is $100; or (2) any other location, the amount of the Bonus is $25.
Would appear if you are not from one of the listed states you will only receive $25.
Found this bit in there too:
15. $10 early close-out fee if you close your account within 180 days of the date your account was opened.
(1) Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, or West Virginia, the amount of the Bonus is $100; or (2) any other location, the amount of the Bonus is $25.
That excluded most of areas from getting $100. But where did you find this? link?

I started applying for the account, and when it got to the terms and agreement section I noticed it in there.

So in this case, I recommend you open a Free account instead.

There is a Buffalo Site that has an offer almost identical to the above one.

Only got the $25 bonus, as expected, but it was very easy. Faxed the signature card in the same day I applied (same day this was posted), got the check card today and logged into online banking and the bonus was already posted due to their ACH deposit that was pulled from another account of mine.

Are you saying you've opened each of the accounts at the link, in your name, and have gotten $100 bonus each time?

I got $100 for Direct Checking (thru this link), $100 for Work Checking (only offered to my company), 2x$25 for Two Free Checking (closed the previous after 6 months and opened the second one week later). As soon as they are mature (6 months later), I will cancel them and repeat.
I am sure I can get bonus for different checking thru the link above but I try not to be too greedy . I currently have 4 accounts with them (3 are Checking). I am not sure what I will say if they ask me why I have so many Checking with them.
I guess you can have multiple accounts, one for each type of checking. Just make sure you read the fee and T&C carefully.

This is amazing. I got the $100 bonus one day after the initial deposit hits the account. I like this bank!
Green for you, OP.

Has anyone living outside of the Baltimore area received a $25 bonus for opening the account AND another $25 for direct deposit, or is the second $25 just an error?
curious...is anyone outside of the posted areas getting the 100 $ bonus?

New offer and available to ALL. Credit to hustlermoneyblog. What counts as a direct deposit? Without direct deposit, you have to leave $1500 in combined accounts in order to avoid fees. If not, there is a $5.95 monthly charge. You can get $100 with M&T Direct Checking and $25 with M&T Totally Free Checking. It is better to go with the Direct Checking, because the monthly fees would only be $35.70 leaving $64.30, which is still more than $25.
