But you can put the Bonus to stocks, then after 1 month, convert stock to cash , cash out account and close... why will this not work, which DECENT company will prohibit you from closing a account and getting the cash out?

The $100 refer a friend has basically the same text as the new $500:
$100 in your account and $100 in your friend's account
Offer limited to one $100 bonus per Referrer and Referred friend, for each unique referral resulting in an activated, funded optionsXpress account meeting the terms and conditions of the refer a friend program. To qualify for the $100 bonus, a per account average balance of $500 must be maintained for 6 months, and the account must trade at least once. The $100 bonus will be deposited into the account within 180 days after meeting the terms and conditions of the offer. The referred friend enter the promo code "FRIEND" to open the new account. A referred customer can only qualify for the $100 bonus a total of one time. Deposits of new funds or securities from existing optionsXpress accounts are not eligible for this offer. Qualified (IRA), linked and shared accounts are not eligible for this offer. This offer is not valid for optionsXpress associates, non-U.S. residents, certain referring parties, and where otherwise prohibited. Customers can not exchange the $100 for other offers, cash or credit. We reserve the right at our sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend this offer program at any time without notice.

Anyone have experience with how the $100 bonus is treated for this promotion?

the last $100 promo was easy, quick and painless. there were a few delays with the payout but it was resolved promptly.

Can you withdraw the $100 credit as cash without hassle?

Any fees to close this account? I know for a fact that Etrade charges (I think $50) to close a brokerage account.

For those who jumped the $100 deal last time, did you withdraw the $100 credit as cash successfully without hassle?

Also, what about maintenance/service fees and minimum account balance requirements to waive these fees if one intends to keep the account open for a while and not to close it?

No hidden Fees

If you have credit history and select to answer questions only you know, it will not ask for photo ID (unless your answer is not 100% correct w/ the credit record).

I got the photcopied id verification request email...but surprisingly for my wife there were no such emails!

I hope since the opening of account was initiated today, they consider my application valid towards the $500 bonus offer. Anyone face similar issue?

Thanks OP and others

I just opended an account.

Yes, I deposited $500; maybe like 2-3 weeks later they deposited $100 to make it $600. Withdrew it and the deal was done.

That being said, I still have an inactive account. Reading the fine print from OptionsXpress Canada, it seems like those that already collected a $100 will have a fat chance of making $500 on this one. Though, I guess its worth trying since its risk $30 or $15 plus lost interest if you find a stock getting bought out for cash to possibly a little more/less if you lose/make money on the trade to make $500.

Good deal. I signed up for it.

Where is it? I just opened a cash account and everything went fine along with ACH request.

I would like to know the answer too. I opened a cash account, btw.

I opened the cash account and signed the electronic signature card.

Yes, my wife and I withdrew all of the money including $100 bonus the day after it posted using the ACH transfer.

Is one trade (condition for bonus) for stocks or one can buy bonds, CDs, etc.?

I'm in [and really may use the account for some options trading].

Having my wife sign up now.

Will probably sign my son up.. is there any reason we can't? We would like to start a savings account for him anyway [he's 10 weeks old but has a SS# ]

Thanks OP! I actually received this email as well but sent it straight to the junk box because it looked like spam.

When did you receive this email..i mean the date when this promo actually started?

Sorry my mistake the email was from a friend telling me about the offer (I had just seen optionsxpress in the subject..] I just went back and checked. So I don't know when it started.

This is the dealender for me.

It might means the $500 must be reinvested.. Sorta of like a casino chip for $10 where u must invest it to withdraw...

Either way its a GREAT DEAL

I trade options already

me and the wife thank you and options express for paying for our stay at Disney this christmass

Is it just me or does everyone have to print, sign and send in an individual application? Seems I can't add money until I do.

No go under 18: account may not be shared

I chose cash & option account. Will the "option" make it a hard inquiry?

From the terms:

Qualified (IRA), linked and shared accounts are not eligible for this offer.

Sorry for the noob question -- I've no experience with investment accounts -- is the "FDIC Money Market Sweep Fund option" considered a linked account? Thanks for any information about this!

did anyone else here open their account today (Nov 30th)
I know it says open BY the 30th but I'm afraid I may have missed it even though i used the promo page.

Signup was pretty painless. Let's hope the $500 is equally so.

According to the posts in this thread, almost everyone opened their account today. That's what people meant when they said things like "I set one up" or "Made one for me and my wife."

No, select ACH transfer. And choose to identify yourself from questions.

The promotion code C3 does not work. Can i assume that it is embedded in the app?

I did not see a spot to enter the promo code when I signed up, anyone else enter c3 somewhere?

DamnoIT said: I did not see a spot to enter the promo code when I signed up, anyone else enter c3 somewhere?
There was a uneditable text-field with C3 already filled in during one of the steps.

I'm in, thanks OP

No, the FDIC Money Market Sweep Fund would be considered an account holding. As far as I can tell, the sweep fund would be a position held by the account. Similar to an account position of 100 shares of XYZ Corp.

I'm going to do it. Worst case is that you have to spend the $500 on a trade, which is still a winner deal since you can cash in soon after. I guess worst worst case is it has to be on commissions but I see no evidence of that.

I dunno, C3 worked for me.

i3ighead said: The promotion code C3 does not work. Can i assume that it is embedded in the app?

C3 was pre-filled in for me.

C3 was autofilled for me. The only concern I have is that the offer details (other than the Canadian one above), does not mention when the funds have to be transferred in by to be eligible for the match. The ACH deposit will take another few days before they email me with the small deposits --- I hope 11/30 is not the day the expect the funds to be in as well...

topikamew said: Is it just me or does everyone have to print, sign and send in an individual application? Seems I can't add money until I do.

In the same boat. They did not assign me an account number and will not allow me to fund via ACH until I mail in the paper application + ID for an account number. I am hoping this will not cause a problem with the promotion as I do not have an account number assigned by 11/30... =\
