Good strategy! That's what I would do if my spending in those categories were higher. I'm not interested in any strategy that involves more than two cards...
brainpain said: Errr... did anybody else receive a second card, for no apparent reason? Just came in today's mail... I didn't request, and I've already activated the first card they sent. (It has the same cc number as the first one, so it wasn't a fraud re-issue.)
Same thing happened to me. They also sent me two at the same time (in the same envelope), which I had already called and asked them not to do after the last time they did that.
I closed the BOFA card (never used it after FIA died) last week and have moved over to the capital-one card which gives 2% if u redeem for travel (airfare, hotel, car rental) and 1% otherwise.
The capital-one is coming up on its 1st year no-fee anniversary, so we will see if they waive the fee.
mnredfox said: Oh, well guess what the geniuses at BOA did now?
So first they double debit my checking incorrectly taking two payments. So I have to request a refund. They issue a refund for my balance instead of the incorrect charge. Fine.
3 days later after speaking with a sup, there is a line item for the amount I actually authorized payment for saying "Payment return unpaid". Then, they slam me with a $20 return check fee since this amount apparently was not accepted by my bank or something like that.
A call to BOA (of course requiring a 5 min wait) tells me that the funds they tried to debit has a status of "unable to locate" so it was supposedly was never paid to BOA by my bank, hence the "unpaid" with the $20 fee. But the kicker, is my checking account shows these funds taken!!!
BOA claims I just need to wait 2-3 days to see if my finds show up.
I can't cancel this card fast enough...
In case anyone is following my continuing saga of screwups with BOA (in case you're wondering, I was simply waiting for my account to zero out to close it), this month instead of the auto-payment happening (like it did last month which was the whole fiasco when it occurred after them saying it wouldn't and thus causing double withdrawal from my accounts), this month the payment automatically stopped and now BOA has happily charged me late penalties and interest. The incompetence just astounds me.
One more call to clear this all up, and close this dumb account. Opening my Sallie Mae card was the best thing I did.
Thanks. Usually, I get a "record not found" reply. Today, I was offered 5% until Mar 31 on recurring charges like cable, phone, internet, etc. However, they impose a $25 ceiling on the CashBack........pretty chinzty
I got this offer when I received the first BOA card (to replace the schwab card), and then I recieved a second BOA card (to replace the first BOA card). However, I didn't recieve this offer again. Do I still have the 5% reward if I use the new card to pay for travel??
I got an unexpected card in the mail this weekend, so I'm thinking that BofA finally decided to ship me the replacement for my 2% Schwab card...
Open it up, and it's a replacement FIA card. It's purple and glittery and says "World Points" on the front. Still issued by FIA. The literature it came with advertises 1% in the form of World Points.
Who cares, since ultimately it's getting sock-drawered, but I can't believe their process is this screwed up!
CalebOC said: Do we qualify for the $250 or $100 bonus for spending $500 in the first 90 days with the new card?
I've crossed that threshold but still no bonus that I can see.
I don't think so... When they changed me over, I asked them and was told that the replacement card does not qualify for the $250 bonus. So, I applied for another card, was approved, and already got my $250 + $25 for opening and transferring the bonus funds to a BOA savings account.
I was a Schwab Credit Card user for some time. Of course my account was transferfed to BofA, like others in this thread, in fall 2011.
The insolvency of Malev Air last week causes me to need to investigate my rights and benefits for purchases made with my Schwab card. Reviewing the terms of another Visa Signature card I hold, I see its "Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption" insurance, which seems exactly right for me. (It specifically covers "default of the common carrier resulting from financial insolvency.")
Does anyone know whether the Schwab card included a similar benefit? I should have saved my benefits listing, and perhaps I have it somewhere, but if anyone on FW has this close at hand, that would be much appreciated.
--> updating my own post: https://www.benefitinformationcenter.com/ has the information I was seeking. Unfortunately it seems the Schwab card did not offer the Trip Cancellation benefit I was hoping to invoke...
If you lost a ticket because the airline shut down, I would still contact BoA right away. Most cards will provide consumer protection against this, in fact credit card companies often ask (require!) airlines in financial trouble to keep cash/bonds on hand as a condition of processing their transactions, just for this contingency.
Amazingly, the automatic $100 monthly payment I had set up for the FIA card got paid again this month. I had stopped it a couple of months ago (or so I thought) by cancelling the bill payment feature at the FIA site but had to re-enable it to make a manual payment on my Fidelity AMEX card, and the automatic payment came back! I cancelled it again, hopefully that will stop it. If not I will cancel the BofA card.
Has anyone succeeded in calling FIA and getting the automated payment cancelled permanently?

which card?
The visa signature card. I've had enough of these idiots:

Has anyone succeeded in calling FIA and getting the automated payment cancelled permanently? I "think" I have. My other FIA cards still have autopay running. I did have to do it on the phone. Twice. The first time they deactivated the autopay on the BofA site and left autopay running on FIA. (Instead of the reverse)
The BofA card - I have not used since the conversion - as I am still running on AARP card promotion. So I have been zero balance
Considering using the BofA card as a backup when I do overseas travel (But its the backup - as CapOne also has no Forex and no minimum rewards redemptions)
iLoveiPods said: Just got charged a $75 annual fee! I thought first year was supposed to be free?In the flyer that originally announced the change, it said you would get by default the Cash Rewards card which has no annual fee, or you could opt for the Privileges card for $75/year (rebated the first year). Both are Signature Visa cards, so the question is what kind of Signature Visa card did you get? If it is the Cash Rewards you should not be charged anything, if it is the Privileges, then I would expect a $75 fee, but that it would be rebated somehow.

Bill, you will have to call them and keep repeating over and over that this is an ex-schwab card and it has some legacy autopayment feature. The frontline CSRs will be clueless and you will need to get referred to a higher up USA-based CSR. Unfortunately I don't know the name of that department. Once you get to the native-english speaking CSR level and they know you have a former Schwab card, they should be able to turn off the autopayment for you. Eventually worked for me.

It's a nightmare. BoA sucks.Correct. You need to get to the FIA autopay department
iLoveiPods said: Just got charged a $75 annual fee! I thought first year was supposed to be free? Ask how they are going to rebate the fee to you. From the flyer you should have been sent: The Annual Fee is $75. The Annual Fee will be rebated in the first year. After that, the Annual Fee will be rebated each year you qualify for the Platinum Privileges program. Just took a look at my online statement. I was assessed the $75 on Feb 8. They rebated the fee the same day. So they are working ok for me so far.
Is it still 0% Forex fee with the converted "Signature" card?
I verified it was still 0% Forex fee after the conversion to BoA card. But then they sent a 2nd BoA card with the Signature wording on the card. Just wondering if anyone has used the latter card in a foreign transaction to confirm whether it's still 0% forex fee.

The bit of plastic itself doesn't have anything to do with it. I'm still using a card that has the Charles Schwab logo on it. Well by using it, I mean I at least know it still works and expect it to do so until the expiration date.

I've used the "new" Signature card (which has the same account # as the old card) without incurring any FTF fee.
Has anyone ever had luck converting the already converted BoA card (or any BoA card) to FIA? (e.g. the FIA Fidelity card) I have a bunch of BoA cards that *used* to be great, now collecting dust. It would be great to convert them into something useful, without giving up their credit history or opening new credit.

No, but I did apply for the Fidelity AMEX and had most of the credit limit transferred from my BoA card. When they did that, they told me they could actually move the "opening" dates between accounts, too. I didn't have them do that, though.

When they did that, they told me they could actually move the "opening" dates between accounts, too. I didn't have them do that, though. It was similar for me. My BoA card is my oldest credit card (~3 years), so when I applied for both the Fidelity AMEX and Visa simultaneously in January (I still haven't used the Visa a single time :$), they approved the AMEX first. They then agreed to open the Visa if I closed my existing BoA Visa. But, I managed to talk them into keeping it open with the smallest CL they allow. They didn't mention anything about moving the "opening" dates between accounts, though.

When they converted my ex-Schwab/FIA card to BofA 3-2-1 rewards, I too opened a Fidelity AMEX and moved over much of my BofA credit line. I didn't bother applying for Fidelity VISA because I generally spend no more than $2,000 per year at merchants where AMEX is not accepted; I use my new 1% BofA card at such stores and lose only $10/year compared to the 1 1/2% Fidelity VISA.
The BofA VISA is handy when traveling abroad because it's free of FTF.......

The BofA VISA is handy when traveling abroad because it's free of FTF....... My BoA Visa is a plain old Platinum student card. I'm actually tempted to move my FIA Visa credit limit to my FIA AMEX (if they allow it) and close the FIA Visa because I don't see myself using it. I originally applied for the FIA Visa before I realized how good Chase UR points are (i.e. > 1/5% CB). Any thoughts about how this would affect my credit score (if at all)? I don't have significant credit history and the age of all my accounts (save the BoA Visa) can be measured in months.
Wow, I had no idea the BOA Visa had no Forex Fee. I've been looking for a card to use when traveling abroad that won't charge me a fee ever since the death of the Schwab card (RIP).
When the Schwab/FIA was ending I opened a Fidelity AMEX account and transfered my Credit Limit over to the new AMEX. I was left with $500 on the Schwab/FIA, which was eventually turned into the BOA Visa. BOA has sent me a bunch of stuff and I immediately just sock drawer'd it. Haven't even looked or activated anything they sent.
I'm thinking about activating it now to have something for when I travel abroad. From what I'm reading - they've sent 2 cards? How do I know which one is the correct one to activate?
Also, does anyone have any advice on how I can increase the credit limit on the card? $500 is not going to cut it. Can I transfer back some of the limit from my AMEX to the the BOA or is it too late to do that?
Even though I knew the replacement BOA Visa did not have a forex fee, I still sock-drawered it. I got a CapOne Cash Plus card, no forex fee and an extra half-percent ca$h back. The extra half percent is only redeemable once a year, but the base 1% ca$h back is very easily and quickly redeemed as a paper check. So far, the online CapOne customer service has been excellent.
Same here, it was charged on Feb. 27 and they didn't credit it back until today. So of course I called and told them I have the letter showing that the annual fee should be rebated in the first year. The CSR put me on hold for about 5 minutes and told me they will credit $75 back. Not only that, the $75 annual fee is waived even after the first year. She said this is because I opened my account back in Feb. 2009. It sounds too good to be true.
However, I logged into my account couple of hours later, and the annual fee section has been changed to $0. It was $75 before. Hopefully it works. Without the annual fee, this card is good enough for me.
Update: I saw a credit of $75 on my account today. Not bad.

Does anyone have documentation that bac will give triple points for restaurants, travel and gas, groceries and drug stores for the first three months of the conversion from the schwab card to the bac privileges card. I am getting triple points only for restaurants and travel. They absolutely refuse to listen to me and I have escalated up 3 levels of csrs. They want proof of the offer that I was offered! Thanks
