There is a promo code on it, but it looks unique. So you can sign up online or go to a local branch.
Offer expires 02/08/2008
I don't know offhand if WaMu does a soft or hard pull.
Min Deposit is $100 $100 will be credited to your account 12 weeks after account opening. Saw ad in newspaper for the same thing. use promo code 0766-ADBA-2361 online at free.wamu.com

Also got a flier with the newspaper today for this offer. Promo code is 1349-ADBA-2164, expires 2-08-09. Possibly the promo codes are regional? This is N. California.
And, anyone know if I already have a Wamu checking account, can I still get this offer?
I received a single page flyer in today's mail. It was stacked in with the grocery ads, Papa Murphy's, and Arby's coupons. A code was included; I then checked the neighbor's mail and they received the same code in theirs...I am guessing that the codes are regional. Olympia, WA

None of the codes have worked so far on the website (and I live in Northern California). Strange, yet not surprising.

I received an e-mail with the promotional code, and it was invalid.

looks like WAMU gooned this away. Aren't they bankrupt anyway? BTW, I entered my code and got a jacked up html page, hit refresh, same, went back, re-entered code, now tells me invalid code. Guess they figured out how much money this was going to cost them? I haven't tried calling or going to branch yet.

I got a flier for $75 to open a free checking account in the mail. It was targed for Chase credit card customers. Took it to a branch and opened an account with no problem.

Las Vegas flyer has code 0015-ADBA-5962. Came in mail with grocery sale papers 12/9/08 today. Code invalid on website too. I suspect they will fix this sooner or later. The promo runs 12/8/08-2/8/09

did they do a hard pull? according to this thread wamu doesn't pull hard inquiries, but i wonder if that has changed since chase has taken over.

I didn't ask, but I didn't sign anything saying they could.
I received a flier in the mail yesterday (Los Angeles, CA - downtown area) with promo code 0331-ADBA-5348. This didn't work for the online account sign-up, but the branch honored in-person account sign-ups with the flier.
0766-ADBA-2361 works. Did those who applied see any messages about $100 bonus during application process?

NJ. I got a letter in the mail a week or so ago, for WaMu credit card holders. Went to the local WaMu bank today and opened the account. Easy, but the bank guy was really slow, took him a long time to set up the online account access, and why did they want me to sign up for cell phone account access in addition to everything else? Took like 45 minutes. But for a $100 bonus, worth it.
And he gave me a really cute little WaMu glass candy jar with a half-dozen mini 100 Grand candy bars in it.

I guess they're trying to weed out people by having them call or go in the branch to sign up.
I signed up over the phone and it was easy. Got a nice lady and she set me up and get me her number and extension if i had any problems.

I received the code via email. Wouldn't accept online so I called the 1800 number and applied over the phone. The promised no hard pull. They took the promo code at the end of the 30 min call and gave me a promo code confirmation number to indicate that the code have been accepted! Thanks Wamu.

I should have tried to open the account online first before I went to the branch. The Wamu guy tried to sell Wamu CC even though I told him I only wanted to open checking & savings. I don't blame him for trying, but I was there for about 20-25 minutes, and I probably could have done it faster online.

wow, now I hate wamu/chase even more - not only did they pass me over for the $100 promo, but they had the audacity to e-mail me just now peddling their free checking (that's right, asking me to open a new account without any mention of the promo). well, I guess this means they have good software that identifies profitable/unprofitable customers. I would likely fall in the latter category, given that my prior relationships consist of: - wamu credit card, never used, have for the free credit score - $25k 5% 12-mo CD opened the day after the acquisition was announced - 2 chase cc's, PIF every month

Anyone with an existing chase account tried this offer? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on the ad
I had an existing WaMu business account, but not a personal account, and I was targeted for the offer (Long Beach, CA). A friend in Westchester also got the offer.
Our codes were different.
Guy at the B&M had to manually type in the code and gave me a printout stating I would recieve the $100 within 12 weeks. (Don't forget to go there with cash or a check so you dont have to pay their ATM fees to get your $100 deposit).

I have chase free checking and WAMU CC. Worked for me.
Anyone gotten any guff either over the phone or in branch using one of the generic codes out of area?
I had a couple friends open accounts at a new Wachovia branch nearby for the $75+$25, and this would be and even better deal. Too bad not referral bonus for me on this!
About to open this--anyone open with a credit card? Purchase or cash-advance?
If not, I'll take the plunge and find out.

All the codes listed here are "used" according to the website, so I just changed the number by raising the last part of the number (the second group of four digits) by one. It worked.

I tried by changing digits, but when I start the application, no where it is mentioned about $100 bonus. Do we get bonus by manipulating the code to open account?

On the application page it makes a point of emphasizing that it will be a purchase and not a cash advance. But my understanding is that your credit card's bank could choose to change the categorization afterwards whenever it wants (they all mention it in their disclaimers), so I went with my debit card instead (to fill one of my 12/mo transactions for rewards checking)
