90% silver, weight is about 0.77 of one ounce. Not as good on the metal value, but this seems to be the going rate for these coins, depending on condition.
Does anyone know of any deals for lots of "junk" silver coins? My husband is threatening to buy a bunch at $14/oz which seems high to me. We have gold and silver, but he wants these for peace of mind, I think.

Typically, junk silver (US 90% silver coins) is priced at some number times face value. Today's silver price is just under $14/ounce, and a $1000 bag of junk silver, which works out to about 715 ounces of pure silver, is priced at $11,718 at APMEX.com (11.7x face value). Converting to $ per ounce, it comes to $16.39 per ounce of silver.
If your husband can buy junk silver for the equivalent of $14/ounce, he's found a tremendous deal. Look no further. In fact, APMEX today will pay $10,968 for a $1000 bag of junk silver, which works out to $15.34/ounce for the silver.

Thanks, I should give him more kudos! I bet there are some additional "fees" he hasn't mentioned, but if it makes him sleep better he should buy the silver.
I don't really consider gold and silver, physically held, an investment. We will never sell it, so it is just kind of a security blanket. My husband denies he is a gold bug, but he is, and well before the recession was labelled as such. But, who knows, if our currency collapsed, or some other large scale disaster, it could be very useful.

Read the specialized forum: Kitco boards (Kitco is large online dealer, too)
New offer from Universal Coin and Bullion from an ad in this months American Rifleman. $15.00 each for 2009 $1 Silver American Eagles. Call 1-800-459-2646. First time customers only limit of 2 per person expires 9-15-2009. Vault Verification code: UAMRFRS0909
I ordered two without any problem and was told it should arrive in a couple weeks - free shipping.
I just received my Littleton order for 3 silver eagles for 15.95/free shipping. There was an extra silver eagle hidden in the package that they are trying to sell me for 29.95. Of course i do not want the extra one for that price but what is likely to happen if you just do not return it? It could have been easily thrown away with the packagaging materials and littleton ad inserts.
I forgot to ad i paid for my order with a prepaid visa that now has no balance so Littleton can't just bill a card for the 29.95 if the extra coin is not returned.
Toss it into ANY U.S. mailbox, in the pre-paid envelope they provided and that will be the end of the "scam"

But you didn't throw it away you have it. You got a great price on three silver eagles. Just do the right thing who cares what the consequences are
yea, except that i didn't intend to sign up for their coins on approval scam, just place an order for 3 eagles only. now i will have to make an extra trip to post office.
