I'll give it a try anyway and see what happens.

Is there a way to get on-line access without a debit card? I think I forgot to check that box.

If this is your second account, yes: You can ID yourself through the number of any other account you may have with them. If this is your first account: Probably not online, but maybe at the branch?

Did anyone try to close your current checking account and open a new one to qualify for this bonus? I participated in $100 offer last October in which I had to open a free checking account with debit card for the 1st $25, set up DD for $25, 3 billpays/each month for 3 months consecutively for another $25, and 6 debit card purchases for another $25. So this deal is much better since you only have to do DD. The last $25 bonus was credited into my account and I though I had to leave my account open for 6 months to avoid early closure fee.

The fees and disclosures for this account suggest there is a $25 fee if you close within 91 days.

I see 53 ACH routing numbers listed under "Bank of West" here

How do know which one to use?

Oh, I've always used the above number, copied from a check. But here's what their web site says:
What is Bank of the West's, Routing/ABA number?
For ACH (Automatic Clearing House) or electronic transactions, please use Routing/ABA number: 121100782. For all other transactions, i.e. check orders, please consult your local branch office for the appropriate Routing/ABA number for your region.

I used the 121100782 RTN for payroll deposit and that worked. It is coded as direct deposit when I check my account detail.

one csr said 121100782 is working for states. but some one else told me another RTN.

Can residents of PA take advantage of this?

I believe this is nation wide, so yes, PA residents can take advantage of this.

alert mods

Ok thanks. will give it a try.

is the routing # for ACH and payroll Direct Deposit different? one CSR told me it's different, that means ACH does not count as DD?

alert mods

FWIW, my first actual direct deposit went through and posted today for $250.

I used an 091200961 routing number.

eta: I am located in South Dakota and I am in the Minneapolis Federal reserve bank region (09). There is a branch location in my state.

eta:2: I linked my BOW account inside my Everbank and ING checking accounts by using 122105647 and 091200961 routing numbers respectively.

I was approved on 5/16, and BofW transfered my $100 deposit on 5/19.

All was well until I just received an email on my account today:

Re: Applicant ########

Dear xxxxxx,

Thank you for your online application. Based on a secondary review of your application, we will be closing your account(s). The Bank is taking this action pursuant to the Deposit Account Disclosure provided during your online application. Any electronic funding requests initiated during your application process have been cancelled.

Thank you,

Online Account Opening Customer Service
Bank of the West - Member FDIC

This is a notification email from Bank of the West relating to your online account relationship with Bank of the West. This is not a promotional email.

Great...now I need to call the bank to find out how to get my $100 back.

Update: After witing on hold for 37 minutes, they were less than helpful. They would not tell me why they closed the account. My $100 would be mailed beck to me within a week.

I recevied an email for my spouses account 7 minutes later with the same message. I had opened the accounts 1 day apart.

My DW and I applied on the same day.

She was approved while I was not.

After being on hold for 20 minutes, I was told I had to apply in branch (no other explaination).

I'm thinking of applying online a second time as JermanDude suggests.

I applied and it seems they do bank verification immediately. I faxed the signature card, and it still says incomplete application. Will wait another day or so.
