Is there a way to get on-line access without a debit card? I think I forgot to check that box.

If this is your second account, yes: You can ID yourself through the number of any other account you may have with them. If this is your first account: Probably not online, but maybe at the branch?

Did anyone try to close your current checking account and open a new one to qualify for this bonus? I participated in $100 offer last October in which I had to open a free checking account with debit card for the 1st $25, set up DD for $25, 3 billpays/each month for 3 months consecutively for another $25, and 6 debit card purchases for another $25. So this deal is much better since you only have to do DD. The last $25 bonus was credited into my account and I though I had to leave my account open for 6 months to avoid early closure fee.

I see 53 ACH routing numbers listed under "Bank of West" here
How do know which one to use?

How do know which one to use?Oh, I've always used the above number, copied from a check. But here's what their web site says: What is Bank of the West's, Routing/ABA number? For ACH (Automatic Clearing House) or electronic transactions, please use Routing/ABA number: 121100782. For all other transactions, i.e. check orders, please consult your local branch office for the appropriate Routing/ABA number for your region.

I used the 121100782 RTN for payroll deposit and that worked. It is coded as direct deposit when I check my account detail.

one csr said 121100782 is working for states. but some one else told me another RTN.
I was approved on 5/16, and BofW transfered my $100 deposit on 5/19.
All was well until I just received an email on my account today:
********************* Re: Applicant ########
Dear xxxxxx,
Thank you for your online application. Based on a secondary review of your application, we will be closing your account(s). The Bank is taking this action pursuant to the Deposit Account Disclosure provided during your online application. Any electronic funding requests initiated during your application process have been cancelled.
Thank you,

This is a notification email from Bank of the West relating to your online account relationship with Bank of the West. This is not a promotional email.

Great...now I need to call the bank to find out how to get my $100 back.
Update: After witing on hold for 37 minutes, they were less than helpful. They would not tell me why they closed the account. My $100 would be mailed beck to me within a week.
I recevied an email for my spouses account 7 minutes later with the same message. I had opened the accounts 1 day apart.
After being on hold for 20 minutes, I was told I had to apply in branch (no other explaination).
I'm thinking of applying online a second time as JermanDude suggests.

I applied and it seems they do bank verification immediately. I faxed the signature card, and it still says incomplete application. Will wait another day or so.

I got my bankcard just over a week ago, and because I was out of town, I only got to set up online banking today. No problem here. I'm sending them my reserve retirement check because I'm ticked off at the service I was getting from Citibank, so I should hopefully get the bonus too. We'll see.

I plan to open a new checking account to take advantage of this offer soon (they have branches in my area). One must either do a $250 minimum direct deposit or do 10 bill pays within the first 60 days. I'm trying to decide which to do. To qualify for the direct deposit, could I simply transfer in $250 from an online account like ING Direct?

For those planning to apply - $100 bonus is not available for online applications as of 5/26. I applied on 5/26 but they rejected my app saying chexsystems verification failed. Obviously their systems are screwed up - there is no problem with my information in chexsystems. My experience with cs has been terrible. amen.

Give it a try and let us know what happens. I don't think anyone has confirmed yet that BOTW counts an ING push as a payroll direct deposit.
05/21/2009 ACTUAL direct deposit from my employer posts to account
05/28/2009 email sent: I wrote said: "I opened this account under a promotion offering $100 if I set-up direct deposit in an amount at least $250. ("The kind of bank that believes jump-starting the economy begins in your neighborhood. Open any personal checking account and get $100"). On 5/21/2009, I satisfied this requirement. When will the bonus post to my account?"
06/10/2009 With no email or snail mail response, I called this morning (800-488-2265 option 8). Not to be a spoiler (as always YMMV) but...I was told the $100 account opening bonus is only for applications received in branch. He reiterated that online applications do not qualify for the $100 bonus.
Is there any other experience out there to validate/refute the claim made by the rep I spoke with?
EDIT 06/21/2009: Bonus went through on 6/19/2009

I received a written secure message today (a full 14 calendar days after my initial inquiry).
Now it seems as though online applicant may be eligible for the $100 bonus.
Dear Mrs Jackcrawfish,
Thank you for your recent inquiry.

eta: The pormo page mentioned by OP now states "Stop by Bank of the West today. The kind of bank that knows supporting local businesses helps support us all." This implies branch visit required.

Any luck getting a bonus for your spouse as well? The fine print states one $100 bonus per household per year.

It looks like external transfer service through CashEdge is finally available. I'm shipping my bonus money elsewhere and marking calendar for August 10th (91-day closure date to avoid fees).

First direct deposit got there just over a week ago. Nothing yet on the bonus.
Anyone have any luck with deposits made via bank transfer, say from BOA? I really don't want to change my employer direct deposit if I don't have to......
