The letter seems contradictory. In the first paragraph the offer is made. In the last paragraph the offer is made conditionally and to be delivered in the future.

As long as you don't screw-up from the invitation date to acceptance date, you'll be accepted for a Sapphire card.
So the OP ("ThePessimist") must be an optimist? Thanks for the info, OP! Am interested in further info as it becomes available.

Someone posted on another board that they received a letter in the mail saying that the Freedom card will no longer offer 3% on top 3 (or 5) categories starting 6/30, so perhaps this is a replacement to the Freedom program for qualified cardmembers only?

Maybe a Citi Forward fighter?
But given the recent downgrading everywhere, it is really hard for me to believe that Chase is offering any meaningful "upgrade". It's probably anything but.

I received the same letter today for my Chase "Perfect" card. I guess it wasn't really perfect.

I got this as well. I actually set this letter aside instead of throwing it into the recycle pile because I wanted to research this. If anything, it's classy marketing.

I got that letter today. Also, the $50 bonus when redeeming $200 in CB Rewards will no longer be available after 6/30. I guess I'm not a preferred customer.

Has annual fee written all over on the letter. I doubt it be an upgrade, it is more like a downgrade. Sounds like concierge service, lol.

The $50 rewards checks will be flying off the shelves! Hmmm, how to profit from this?

Just got off the phone with a customer service rep and she assured me that those two programs($50 bonus and top 3) will be in place long after 6/30 for me and other current holders. She further said that I would get a 2 month notice(which I haven't received) if that were ever to change.

I got that same, "New ways to get Cash Back" letter today too. Is there any way to talk your way into a better card/more benefits, with no annual fee?

Also, you can currently get Costco and/or WalMart cards for a slight discount on eBay, if you want to go the Microsoft CashBack route.

I received it yesterday - for my Chase Rewards Plus (5% gas, grocery, Drugstore). I posted in the Chase Rewards thread. Wondering about this as well.

Please let us know where you got that info from. It's the second paragraph on the same letter as the "no more 3%".

I have a Chase Rewards. I just got home... no notice. I also check my rewards statuts online, the $250/$200 is shown "in stock" but there is not button to add it to the cart.
again... this sucks.

I know someone who just got off the phone with a customer rep too. they said that the $50 bonus, 3% CashBack will be discontinued on 06/30 and that person was a current card holder. My friend got the notice already though so I'm wondering why some people have received notices and some haven't.

Chase is sending the notices as presorted bulk mail, and hasn't printed/mailed all zones yet? Remember this is snail mail we are talking about...

I suspect people are getting different answers from CSR for the same reason they're getting different letters: Chase is segmenting their customer base and doing different things with them.
I haven't received the letter about the awards being downgraded, and it would sure send a sour note for them to send that and the Sapphire notice around the same time! Therefore, I suspect that I'll only get one sometime in the future if I don't accept the Sapphire invitation.
I don't think it's coincidence that the Sapphire notes and the Rewards downgrade letters went out at the same time. They probably sorted everybody in their database into buckets at the same time, created mailing lists, and started sending the different letters simultaneously.

I think he nailed it. The CSR kept on like announciating the word you to me. Like YOUR fine, like if to say that others weren't.

Yeah. I actually did get a downgrade letter but that's a separate thread my mistake. There are 3 different letters going out. One is sapphire, one is ultimate rewards with annual fee but keep 3% on 3 categories, and the last one is the bottom of the stack which is still free though but only 3% on revolving categories. I called them to get this cleared up. I'm guessing sapphire is the best of the 3 programs.

I got both letters, the Sapphire letter the day after the downgrade letter. While the downgrade letter gave the last 4 digits of the card, the Sapphire letter didn't specify so I have no idea which of my 3 cards it's supposed to apply to. Guess I ended up in at least two buckets.
So what are you guys going to do? I'm still waiting for my letter. If we reject the downgrade then we'll lose our CLs right? So is everyone trying to move to a card with no annual fee then sock drawer it?

Is it my Freedom, Perfect, Cash Plus, or my old Wamu card?

Strange, my letter clearly states: Upgrade for account ending in: XXXX
This is clearly a downgrade from the perfect card it's trying to replace. Fine print at the end of the letter: "Automatic redemptions are no longer available with your new card. The 3% rebate on eligible gas purchases has been replaced by earning 1 point for every dollar spent...."
It also says: "If you prefer to keep your existing Chase PerfectCard, call..... by June 15"
I have to wonder though, if what they really mean is keep my existing PerfectCard with removal of it's benefits...

Spent 3/4 of an hour today on the telephone with a very conscientious Chase employee who tried several phone numbers and websites to try and get some more details about this "Chase Sapphire" card. But it seems to be a well kept secret.
The card was the "pre-invitation."
Nothing will be revealed until those "exclusive" upgrade invitations arrive in a few weeks, that is if I "continue to meet" their credit criteria.
Wonder what that entails? Spend, spend, spend and pay?

I'm hoping the actual "invitation" will have the last digits of the card number.

Received the letter and flyer from Chase about the Sapphire Card. The letter will have the last 4 digits of the card they are referencing.

Did anyone get a promotional bonus points offer for this quarter? My wife and I maxed out the 10x offer in 3Q10, which might be why we only got a 3x offer for 4Q10. We didn't bother with the 3x offer, and I was hoping for something better for 1Q11 - but nothing.
