I got a $100 coupon in the mail from Chase bank today. I went into my local branch, and was able to redeem it successfully. I'm not sure if each coupon code is unique, but since the offer was addressed to "Our Neighbor at..." I'm inclined to think not.
Coupon code I used: 3471945321021062 (possibly one-time use only) Offer Expires: July 7, 2009
If it turns out coupon codes are unique, one possible source is the USPS Mover's pack (Chase has been known to stuff coupons in there)
Basic Requirements:
Coupon code (see above)
Must open an new Chase Checking account with $100 minimum deposit (within 60 days)
$100 Bonus received within 10 days of $100 deposit
Direct deposit, or 5 debit card purchases required for no monthly service fee
Debit card qualifies for free Chase Extras earn 1 rewards point for every $1 spent in qualifying purchases; Go to Chase.com/Extras for more information. (My branch advised an upgraded program for those that spend more than $250/mo average that offers extra points, but incurs a $25 yearly fee)
This is very similar to the sign-up bonuses Chase offered last year, where you could get up to $150 for checking accounts and $250 for business accounts, with $50 referral bonuses. I opened 2 personal (one checking one savings), and two business (one checking, one savings) and received a total of $500 in bonuses last year. I canceled all of those accounts when the 6 month minimum had passed, and now I'm glad I did.
From the coupon:
Our Chase Checking account is loaded with big conveniences and big savings, including:
Free access to over 14,000 Chase and WaMu ATMs (and 3,000 branches nationwide)
Free Chase Online Bill Pay
Free Chase Debit Card with Zero Liability Protection
Free voice and e-mail alerts
NO minimum balance required
No monthly service fee with direct deposit or five debit card purchases
Plus, $100 on us!
Fine Print:
Zero Liability protection- Chase reimburses you for any unauthorized card transactions made at stores, ATMs, on the phone or online when reported promptly. No Monthly Service Fee- Chase Checking has no monthly service fee when you have a direct deposit or five or more debit card purchases post to your account each statement period. Chase Checking- Available only at Chase branded branches, excluding CA. Bonus/Account Information- To qualify for the bonus you must open a new Chase Checking account with a $100 minimum deposit of new money (money not currently held by Chase or its affiliates) within 60 days of account opening. Bonus will be automatically deposited into your new account within 10 business days after the $100 minimum deposit is made. Bonus is not considered part of minimum opening deposit. Limit one checking account-related reward/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not available on account conversions or in combination with any other offer. Checking account must remain open for a minimum of six months or the bonus will be debited from the account at closing. Account is subject to approval. Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT.

I did this deal last year when it was $125 (2 months before signing up for a new mortgage) and I was livid that I had a line of credit opened up with it, and had to pay taxes on this deal. To me, it just wasn't worth it

A major benefit of a Chase Checking Account is that it permits your Chase Freedom cards to continue to earn 3% on certain categories (actually increases the number of categories to 5 in fact). Since each card can earn you an extra $12 per month, this can easily be a greater benefit than the opening bonus (12 month at $12 per month is $144). If you have more than 1 Freedom card (I and my wife have three), it can be even more valuable. It will also keep you ability to get a $250 check when your rewards hit $200.
A E-mail received today says
" I would like to inform you that if you have both a Chase Freedom (fixed or enhanced) product and an open Chase checking account, you will automatically be upgraded in the Chase Freedom Exclusives product within 1-3 billing cycles.
Chase Checking Account Customers will enjoy exclusive benefits such as:
- Triple rewards in the top 5 spend categories(out of pre-defined 15 categories)! - No Rewards Expiration - Redemption levels start at 1,000 point or $10! - Anything Credit redemptions start at 200 points.
Yes, you will still be given the option to redeem your rewards for a $250 check"

There could be a problem getting direct deposit set up quickly enough to avoid a service fee in some cases. Since they charge for checks, I did not order any. They will not reveal your account number by mail or E-mail. thus, you have to wait until a statement prints to have enough information to request direct deposit.
While I understand they give you 60 days to set up direct deposit I could imagine the first deposit not arriving quickly enough.
I got caught several years ago because I was a professor not paid during the summer, and there were no direct deposits during that period.

It should be easy enough to make 5 $1 debit card purchases.

I got the same mailer a few weeks ago for $150 for checking and additional $50 for savings account.
Although I refused checks they sent me a box anyway and charged $18.95 for them, which I disputed and they are in the process of refunding for.
Today I got another mailer, this time just for the $150 for checking.

The coupons I get with my Chase credit card bills are always $125. The coupons I get in the mail addressed to “Our Neighbors” are usually $75 or $100.
I currently have a $125 coupon (expiration 06.30.09) that can be used online or in-branch if anyone needs it. Just PM me.
Edit: Coupon taken.

Ask any bank for a direct deposit form or instructions. They should be happy to oblige.
Can anyone confirm if the $25 referral bonus still works? I was told by a banker last year that Chase no longer gives referral bonus. Not sure if that is true.
Not valid in California, so I cannot use it myself.

I just used a $100 coupon to open a new Wamu checking account 1.5 months ago. Wonder if I am still eligible for this Chase promotion, since my Wamu checking account is converting to Chase soon.

It should be easy enough to make 5 $1 debit card purchases.
But you have to do that every month for six months to avoid monthly service fee (unless you set up a direct deposit).
Open a Chase CheckingSM account, set up direct deposit or make five debit card purchases and get a $100 cash bonus. You'll need a minimum opening deposit of $100. You'll get your $100 cash bonus, plus all the benefits of Chase CheckingSM: * FREE access to 14,000 Chase and WaMu ATMs nationwide * FREE Online Banking & Online Bill Pay * 24/7 access with Chase MobileSM on your phone * No monthly service fee with direct deposit or five debit card purchases No Monthly Service Fee – Chase CheckingSM has no monthly service fee when you have a direct deposit or five or more debit card purchases post to your account each statement period.
Bonus/Account Information – To qualify for the cash bonus you must open a new Chase CheckingSM account with a $100 minimum opening deposit of new money (money not currently held by Chase or its affiliates). Also, within 60 calendar days of account opening, you must initiate a monthly direct deposit such as payroll, pension or Social Security, or have at least five debit card purchases (using your PIN or signature) posted to your account. The cash bonus will be deposited into your new account within 10 business days after the initial direct deposit or five debit card purchases have posted to your account. Limit one personal checking account-related cash bonus/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not available on account conversions or in combination with any other offer. Cash bonus is not considered part of the minimum opening balance. Checking account must remain open for a minimum of six months or the cash bonus will be debited from the account at closing. Account is subject to approval. Cash bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT. Chase CheckingSM is available only at Chase branded branches, excluding branches in California, and Chase.com.
They are also having a $100 promotion with WaMu Free Checking. Does that mean if I apply for Wamu Free checking and Chase free checking I will get both $100 rewards?

I received starter checks that had my routing number and account number, which was all that was required to switch my direct deposit over from my other bank. The manager even offered to do it on my behalf.

Actually, your account number is printed on the Signature card that is provided as part of the application process. I'm sure you could get the routing number by calling Chase or searching the Internet.

anyone know if paypal works for the direct deposit?
johnnybs said: GabeMcG said: akhan7 said: It looks like they've lowered the maximum funding amount from $2000 to $500.
I funded more than $500 no problem...
Online or in branch? The online application states there is a $500 limit...although I didn't attempt to exceed it.
In Branch, not sure about online. Maybe try the 800 number if you don't have a branch nearby. I opened an acct. last year with Citi on another promotion all over the phone/snail mail. It took a little longer, but I still didn't have to leave the house.

I get weekly payments from them thanks to youdata
I asked my branch manager about this. He wasn't positive, but thought that PayPal deposits would work. I seem to remember them working for similar promotions/situations in the past. Not sure if that has changed though.

I do want to point out that despite Professor Ed's post that he got that e-mail from Chase regarding the Chase Exclusives updating the catagories from 3 to 5 per month, it is no guarantee that you will retain 3% on Chase Freedom Card after June 30th, when supposedly all Chase Freedom Cards and Rewards Plus and Cash Plus Cards that remain are supposed to lose most of these Cash Back benefits and be reduced to 1% level with occasional opportunities to get 3% on rotating catagories (such as Discover Card does with their cards)....
So, if opening Chase Checking for the bonus...fine....but don't COUNT on it to definately "lock in" a 3% monthly Cash Back on your Freedom Cards past June 30th......

the reduction in rewards points does not affect the rewards plus and cash plus rewards cards.

Yes, they print the account number on the signature cards (hence do not mail before copying).
They did not think to provide the routing number (much less have the donloaded direct deposit form already include it), although I could get it by E-mailing customer service.
They have quite few routing number. the first internet search gave a list of states and numbers, but non-included my state.

according to the other fw thread...the letters being sent out have been converting the Rewards Plus/Cash Plus cards to either Freedom Cards or the new "Sapphire Card"..and it appears the Freedom will have 3% on rotating catagories only (like Discover) otherwise a flat 1%..and the new Sapphire Card is 1% and is a point program which has airlines miles, gift cards, merchants, and cash rebate checks...but also a flat 1% (1 point per dollar spent) rate.....

i've had the rewards plus and cash plus rewards cards since the middle of 2006 and neither one has been converted by chase to a freedom card or sapphire card. still enjoying my 5% on my statements.

Have you received your bonus yet from pushing from any of these accounts? Thanks.
