I just cashed out $550 for myself, and then remembered dad had a Citi Card with TYN and got $750 for him. I called my bank (a local Federal Credit Union) and they said that having a check made out to them is fine, etc. So I just used that bank as my lending institution. (I actually have a 30k med school tuition loan through them too, so it works for that as well). Hope everyone jumped on board. |

@zoot Thanks for fixing the QS for me. I'm a retard and shouldn't be messing around with stuff... Nothing like doing some Verizon math to make you feel like an idiot. |

coolpizza said:So after they removed the fixed point redemption for air tickets, is this SLR the best available option to utilize the points? thanksVariable point redemption for air travel is still $.01/point, so if you're going to buy the tickets anyway it's the same value (and less wait/hassle than the SLR). |

Just called in and got mine... Had 73K ty points! Got 1 of the $500 SLR, 2 of the $100 SLRs, and 1 of the $25 SLR. Total $725 in SLR checks on the way!!!! Now have 534 points left over (LOL!!!). Had I waited, would have only gotten $500 in SLR.... SAVED me $225! TY OP! |

With SLR's redemption values going to $100/14300 points, will mortgage payments stay at $100/12700 points? If so, does mortgage redemption work the same as the SLR process? |

Unless you have the Citi Platinum AMEX card and the complimentary ticket is useful to you. I travel almost only when my wife is with me, and although the first ticket is overpriced, the 2nd free one normally ends up saving me $40 to $80 off the best price in Expedia. |

I am still confused of what you can use the SLR for besides loan repayment as I see many of you guys doing. |

The person I spoke with on the phone said that the change was occurring tomorrow. Looks like Citi CSRs themselves are not consistent with the date since I am pretty sure what I heard and I did double check and confirm with the CSR I talked to. Maybe other members who called Citi about the date can chime in and comment on this date issue. I know it would make a different to my bottom line (I'll rack in quite a few TYP this month.) |

I think the best thing is to cash out as many points as you can now and hope for the best. You don't lose anything by cashing out now. |

tripleB said:You guys who are 10 points below the threshhold REALIZE you can BUY points - for something like $2 per point. May be worthwhile in some cases. You can only buy them in chunks of 1000 for $25. Probably not worth it since $25 is the minimum redemption level. |

i just called to cash out my points for student loan checks and jennifer didn't know anything about the upcoming change in valuation (although she qualified by saying that it doesn't mean it's not true) |

thanks for the post OP! Just called and talked to a pretty chill dude. He totally knew why everyone was calling today. He said yes today is the last at this point value. They want to streamline all the cash like rewards to be the same and agreed this was the last 'nice perk' that the TYN had going. Also told me to feel free to post this info on the 'deal websites' (heh, there's only 2 I visit). right on everyone. thanks again for the info. |

I redeemed yesterday but the TY website still shows the old redemption values - it may be July 5 after all, or they're just slow in updating the website (since you have to call to redeem anyways) |

Except the new redemption rates are not the ones cited in the quick update -- they're equivalent to the mortgage redemption rates, which are all about $0.78 per point at or above $50. |

I believe you can still pay your DiscoverCard bill at Sears, does anybody know if you can use a Sears gift card to pay it? Since Sears gift cards are still 1 to 1 at the 100 point level this would be a creative way to still get 1 to 1 "cash" redemption. |
