The same thing happened to me. Debbie told me that she'll call me back as soon as she finds out what's going on. It's been two days and Debbie hasn't called back.

At first I thought she was going to go through the standard set of questions that I get when I apply for a credit card, but then she just said: good bye and then hung up on me. I wrote them an email complaining about the very poor way they handled the situation, but they haven't responded. It is just as well, imho, because I was going to open up the CD and the CD is an ok deal, but not to die for.

Feel the FW effect! Checking and MMIA are no longer options to get the free TV. But one can still open a 11 month CD with $20,000 to obtain the HD gift. Good luck.

hkguyatus is correct. Also, Business ckg, MMIA, and CD are available. After calling them to open the business account, I was told you must go in branch. Only thing available online is Personal 11 month CD. I tried applying late yesterday but the site kept locking up on me! Darn, really wanted that TV!

Not true. I just look and you can do the Business Checking or Money Market to get the free gifts.

I see business checking is available also but not via online application. You have to have them contact you (fwiw).

You need to click the "Business" tab to see the business a/c options. It shows up for me although there is no branch in my state or any of the neighboring states. The business a/c options all show a "contact me" button unlike the Personal a/c (CD option) which shows a "open now" button. I take it the business a/c cannot be opened online.

ETA: jackcrawfish types faster than me.

EDIT:
I was just told by a very nice CSR (Katie Wilson) that the free basic checking no longer qualifies for the TV or Camcorder Summer Promotion (she said they changed the promotion this past Friday and haven't updated the website yet). Also, in addition to opening and properly funding one of the qualifying accounts, you also have to satisfy 2 of the following requirements: 1) Additional Savings Account, 2)Additional CD, 3) Additional MMA, 4) An IRA, 5) Activate Debit Card, 6) Use online banking with BillPay (I'm assuming this means you'd need to set up a billpay), 7) Enroll in e-Statements.

Just called them... Free Checking is qualified with $5,000.00 opening deposit.
We pulled the trigger since it's soft pull and we took every screenshot from the front page to the end of application (the Free Checking application did ask whether we wanted TV or camcorder). I could tell from the phone that they really wanted you to open the Platinum Checking...

Ziffy - can you PM me a subset of your screenshots just in case I need them. I completed the application with Debbie over the phone and she confirmed my choice of free gift. I'd like to have screenshots of the first few pages - which show the summer promotion with free checking appearing in the list - along with the terms and conditions. I think that should be enough .. just in case there's trouble.
Thanks in advance!

I just read about Irwin UB on Banking Guy's Bank Deals.

I filled out the online application, $20K 11 Month CD 2.21%. (took about 10 minutes)
The interest isn't that great, but what the heck, FREE TV.

I have a large Sharp HD TV in the bedroom and it is great. This 22" will work in the kitchen.

NOT TRUE!!

I received an e-mail confirmation that signature card is in the mail.
$20K 11 mo CD, 2.21% APY.

I talked to a Rep this morning and she said, Irwin Union Bank is a very popular CD site. (FW effect) They have had to reorder Sharp 22" HD TV's.
I'm no mathematician (again) but it seems that 2.21%, figure in cost of TV ($299), the APY would be approx 3.57%.

I'm in for 1

Interest rate depends on your area code, I got 2.61% APY (So.Cal).
