I don't see where it requires a minimum balance. It says you have to open a personal checking account. Here are available personal checking accounts:
The MyAccess® Checking Account has no minimum balance.
* Monthly maintenance fee is waived if opened online * No minimum balance * Most popular account
Am I missing something?

I applied for this offer last month with $500. The language is kind of vague so I am keeping $500 in there. However, I didn't realize, but should have known that BOA will do a hard credit check on me with Experian, probably due to the debit card.
BoA is requesting me to call them to finish the account opening, is this normal? I have no previous history at BoA.
EDIT: Called up BoA, they told me that they could not accept the application online and that I would have to open the account in person at a branch. When asked about the maintenance fee being removed since it would be in person the agent gave a very wishy-washy answer.
I'm a college freshman with absolutely no credit history, which I'm guessing prevented me from opening the account.

And whether you can stack the $25 refer-a-friend promo on top of this bonus?
I signed up a few days ago. How long does it take for the account to get funded. I put the $250 when I signed up online but my acct bal is still $0? Does it take 3 business days, or do you have to wait to get the acct info in the mail?

Kingofthenet said: What do these banks consider a 'Bill" I could do my electric for one, but my roommate pays the other bills. How about funding Etrade,Ing or Paypal?
A bill is electric, phone, cell phone, gas, insurance,... Pay your electric company three small amounts. That may work. Pay some credit cards, those are bills. Funding is more like an ACH not paying a bill.
Kingofthenet said: What do these banks consider a 'Bill" I could do my electric for one Just wait a week or so after you get your electric bill before signing up for this promotion. That way you'll get next month's bill and pay it off before the 30 days is up.
Kingofthenet said: What do these banks consider a 'Bill" I could do my electric for one, but my roommate pays the other bills. You can pay pretty much anyone, even an individual. Just send $1 to your friend, brother, etc.
Here's what BofA's site says: "Pay To accounts can be any company, such as your long-distance provider or credit card, or individual, such as your landlord or a family member. You can pay virtually anyone in the United States that you would normally pay by check or automated debit. We recommend that you don't use Bill Pay to make state and federal tax payments or court-ordered payments."
Kingofthenet said: Well considering they have no way to find out how much my Electric bill is, I could just split it half and pay 25 days apart, or pay my mom $5Or pay yourself $1 twice.
I opened the account last week and funded online with $250 but the $250 is still not in the account. It looks like they may be playing games everytime I call they tell me to give it another day.

Did you receive your card / account info in the mail? I applied 8 days ago, and just got my account packet yesterday. Haven't set up online access yet, but spoke to the BoA rep over the phone and he confirmed $250 was in my account.

Stay away from Bank of America, look at this horror story! LOL
MANCHESTER, N.H. – A New Hampshire man says he swiped his debit card at a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes and was charged over 23 quadrillion dollars.
Josh Muszynski (Moo-SIN'-ski) checked his account online a few hours later and saw the 17-digit number — a stunning $23,148,855,308,184,500 (twenty-three quadrillion, one hundred forty-eight trillion, eight hundred fifty-five billion, three hundred eight million, one hundred eighty-four thousand, five hundred dollars).
Muszynski says he spent two hours on the phone with Bank of America trying to sort out the string of numbers and the $15 overdraft fee.
The bank corrected the error the next day.
Bank of America tells WMUR-TV only the card issuer, Visa, could answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank.
