This thread is specific to the bonus of 25,000 or 15,000 points after first purchase (gift card, travel, cash redemption) offer for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card:

NOTE: The current online/phone offer is down to 15,000 points!
http://www.chasesapphire.com/chase-sapphire-preferred/#offer-details_500

UPDATE: From further down in the thread... the 25000 point offer is FINSHED, only 15000 point offer available currently

Note: $95 annual fee after the 1st year.

Alternatively you can apply for the "regular" Chase Sapphire card (no annual fee) to obtain 10,000 bonus points.

Redemption options:
Redeem for travel, merchandise, gift cards and Cash Back, or transfer points at full value to the industry's top frequent flyer and hotel programs.

  • 1:1 Point Transfer to Leading Airline and Hotel Programs (similar to AMEX Membership Rewards Points perhaps?)
  • Each point is worth 25% more when used to book flights through Ultimate Rewards (25000*1.25 = 312500 or $312.50 travel reward)
  • Plus earn 10,000 bonus points when you purchase $50,000 per year on your card (Sapphire Preferred only)

I was instantly approved and I currently have 3 Chase credit cards from 2-3 years ago.

Please see the complementary thread regarding general discussion of the Sapphire card here

Chase Sapphire Preferred Offer Details (for 25,000 bonus points offer only):
25,000 points after first purchase
You will receive 25,000 bonus points with this bonus offer, which can be redeemed for a round trip ticket on most major airlines up to a $312.50 value. Ticket value exceeding $312.50 can be charged to your new card. A service fee of up to $20 per ticket may be charged for the use of our toll-free number to book or change airline itineraries. Redemptions made online do not have a service fee. Cardmember is responsible for any airline or government-imposed fees. You will qualify for and receive your bonus after your first purchase/first use of the card. First purchase/first use includes purchases, balance transfers, or any checks that are used to access your account, and excludes cash advances. After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus points to post to your account. This one-time bonus offer is valid only for first-time cardmembers with new accounts. Existing cardmembers/accounts are not eligible for this bonus offer.

Ok, so for all of you showing the 25k point balance in your account but getting system errors when attempting to cash out via checks using the website, here is what you do:

- Call Ultimate Rewards Redemption Center at 1-800-610-5676
- Enter in CC# and zip code when prompted -- the automated voice prompt should verbally state your current point balance as reflected in the system
- Select option to redeem rewards
- Select option to redeem rewards for cash (Option 2, I think)
- Select option for $50 check
- Indicate number of $50 checks that you wish to redeem -- 5 in the case of most people
- Complete order and make a note of confirmation code

Note that the process is completely automated and you do not need to speak to any live representative. After I placed my order, I logged into Chase UR and confirmed that the order had been placed and the points deducted from my balance, with an estimated shipping date for the order as well.

Credit goes to *another* online site for this tip -- I can't claim credit for this one but wanted to share with all of the others who are having issues with redeeming points.

Do you have to book the flight through them to take advantage of the points?

Would we be ineligible if we already have a Chase card or is the disclosure just to prevent people like us from applying for multiple Sapphire cards?

I'm not sure of the details regarding gift cards and travel redemptions, but this is all I need to know:

Statement Credits: Redemptions start at 2500 points for a $25 statement credit to apply to any purchase made with
your Chase credit card within 60 days of the request for a statement credit, where permitted by law. Beginning with
2500 points, redemptions may be made in additional 100 point increments for each $1 statement credit. Statement
credit will post to your account within 5-7 business days and will appear on your monthly Chase credit card billing
statement within 1-2 billing cycles.

I'm wondering if it has special cash redemption such as Chase Freedom Card where we can redeem 20,000 points for $250 check. If it is, then this can generate $300 bonus.

I tried it too, no instant approval, I doubt this will be approved.

Click on "Compare Cards" at the link posted in the OP, under the "Chase Sapphire Preferred" card heading:
"Redeem for travel, merchandise, gift cards and Cash Back, or transfer points at full value to the industry's top frequent flyer and hotel programs."

From guessing from past Chase promotions, this only excludes current Chase Sapphire card members. Similar wording was on the Chase Freedom card promotions which many received bonuses for in spite of being Chase cardmembers already.

Instant approval!
Now, please anybody share what is the best in the long run for your credit when the first 11 months are over:
1. Cancel the card.
2. Downgrade or change to another no-fee chase card.
I currently have 1 more Chase card, 7 other open accounts (two of them business), and 3 more closed on my request.
Credit score around 760. Not planning to buy house anytime soon.
Thanks!

Obviously paying an annual fee negates the purpose here.
