out of its footprint states qualifies?

Note: To open an account online, you must be 18 years or older, a U.S. citizen or a U.S. Resident Alien with a valid Social Security Number and U.S. residence address.

doesnt seem to be a problem.

Does anyone know if push ACH qualifies as a DD?

Can anyone comment on whether this is a hard or soft inquiry?

staci86 said: Can anyone comment on whether this is a hard or soft inquiry?

what do you mean by hard or soft inquiry? i'm kinda slow.lol

A hard inquiry is an indication that you have actively sought credit on your credit report (VISIBLE TO OTHER BANKS)

A soft inquiry is an indication that someone has "viewed" your credit report but not for the purpose of obtaining credit (NOT visible to other banks)

Out-of-state qualifies.

So what prevents someone from charging $10 bucks on their credit card and making automatic daily payments of $1?

Opt for online statements since after 3 months they charge for paper statements ($2.00)

I'm not sure anything does. Easy $100...

Soft inquiries were observed the last time they offered this.

Be careful when you apply. I wasn't paying close enough attention, and didn't notice that the system automatically checked the box to open a savings account as well. I figured it out when we got to account funding and the system insisted on me sending at least $200 instead of $100.

I tried to call to fix it and gave up after half an hour on hold. I'll see whether they respond to email.

so what are the gotchas?

Same thing happened to me. I'm almost 100% positive that I unchecked the box to open up a savings account, but by the time I got to the funding, it required me to deposit $100 into a new savings account. I'll just transfer the money from savings to checking and withdrawal it after I get the bonus.

Can one use credit card to fund the initial deposit?

Hmmmm, I'm almost positive the girl in ad went to my highschool a few years behind me. Amber Smith, and she used to be blonde. If anyone owns the Woodstock 2 soundtrack CD box set, you can see a giant photo of her older sister Celeste as one of the "mud people".

Well, some banks or accounts charge for online bill pay service. Can you confirm that billpay is free for this account?

LawrenceofArabia said: So what prevents someone from charging $10 bucks on their credit card and making automatic daily payments of $1?

If you click on "Learn More" link for free checking it says online billpay is free unless you access it from Quicken, Microsoft Money or some other personal management software.

Thanks. I did manage to find the answer therefore, have opened the account. Plan to do 10 bill pay to cc as someone suggested. hehe

any minimum for the debit card use?

I did this last go around and it was very easy. 10 Bill pays (free) in $5 increments to Comcast, and in about 30 days I had the $100. I guess you have to keep the account open 90 days as well or they charge you $25, but besides that....easy money. I had no hard inquiry either.....

No CC funding.

any other benefits to this account?

Which checking are you guys opening? Free checking or Interest checking? Is there any fee/catch for the interest checking?

Application Decision: Unable to Open Account

Your Decision Details: Thank you for applying for an account with Bank of the West. Unfortunately, your application could not be processed with the information provided.

I opened the free checking. I didn't read the fine print, but usually interest checking accounts come with more stipulations and fees. There are lots of BOTW banks around here so it shouldn't be a problem closing for me.

I'm giving it a shot. I was approved waiting on the trial deposits. I'm probably going to try the 10 bill payments must occur within 60 calendar days to get the bonus
Thanks OP and others for detail on the bonus

She just applied today for a new one and was approved (technically she didn't 'currently have an account with Bank of the West')

Can anyone confirm its a soft pull ?

how to sign up for username. Wait for the debit card to come in mail?

Sign up using "other" option.

I confirmed by opening my account, and I am out of state.

Have you got your bonus? Thanks.

No one has the bonus yet. If you wait for the bonuses to be received the offer will have expired. Snooze and you will lose here.

Anyone able to link this account on Yodlee? All I find is Bank of West Credit Card and Mortgage.

No problem with yodlee. Just search Bank of the West, and choose Bank of the West (CA). You probably searched Bank of West.
