Eligibility: This special limited time offer is available to new clients that open a new personal checking account between 08/28/09 and 10/31/09 through BBT.com. A new client is a person who is not currently a signer and who was not a signer within the last 6 months on any BB&T personal checking account. Offer is subject to change or withdrawal at any time without notice, and cannot be combined with any other offer. Offer is limited to one incentive per household, and does not apply to second or multiple personal accounts. In order to receive the $100 incentive, new clients must do at least one of the following: 1) Use our online bill payment service to initiate 3 online bill payments from your new checking account within 60 days of account opening, OR 2) Enroll in and receive a direct deposit to the new personal checking account within 60 days of account opening. Any accounts not in good standing, closed, and/or with a balance less than or equal to zero at the time we review account eligibility will not receive the incentive. Normal minimum balance opening requirements apply.
The $100 account opening incentive will be deposited directly to your account within 4 weeks of meeting the above requirements, and will be reported to the IRS as required by law. For illustrative purposes only, a Classic Banking account opened through BBT.com earns 0.02% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) on balances between $0.00 and $2,499; 0.10% APY on balances between $2,500 and $24,999; and 0.10% APY on balances greater than $25,000. Rates are accurate as of 8/15/09 and are subject to be changed without notice. Actual APY may vary according to state, account and balance in the account.

Ha! GA finally gets one that TX and CA don't. Take that punks!

It appears that funding is not through credit. Also, on the first screen it lists one of it's "benefits" as a visa platinum card. It goes on to say your account will be "approved" in less than 10 minutes implying a credit check. So, if your credit report can handle a hard inquire go for it!
What You Need to Apply 1.Social Security Number 2.Driver's license number, issue date, expiration date 3.Date of birth 4.Current home address 5.Current bank account number or check to mail in for account funding

If I read the bonus guidelines correctly, you have to open the account online, and I'm rejected because I don't live IN Kentucky, just near it.
Funny. I drove by the BB&T branch next to the mall on US 60 in Paducah last Saturday. They have offices all over nearby Kentucky.

Here is what the eligibility says: "This special limited time offer is available to new clients that open a new personal checking account between 08/28/09 and 10/31/09 through BBT.com."
It also says on the promotion page "To open your account by phone, just call 1-800-BANK-BBT (1-800-226-5228) and select option 4." May want to try that; make sure you mention promotion code AFAAP when you open by phone.
Is online bill pay free? Also, are there any fees to have this account open? Any minimum amount of time the account must remain open to avoid early closure fees?
He is probably an FW member already and knows what's going on here.

What do they use, soft or ChexSystem?

I opened an account this afternoon and the app entered the code for me. I was also approved for 7,000 CL for the card. Big deal but I'll take 6 months at 0% if it comes with no transfer fee. Didn't notice if that was the case.

Can we open a checking account without the credit card?

If you want to use Quicken for transaction downloads it'll cost you. There seems to be no Quicken option to download from the BB&T website...you do have a CSV option. If you want to use Quicken to download from BB&T with a direct connection it'll cost $5.95/month.

Just the checking acct, or did you apply for credit as well?
Oh yes, I applied for a mortgage, car loan, and credit card too. Doesn't everybody do that if they open a checking account?

Did your checking account application include an overdraft protection feature? If so, that might be the reason for the hard pull.

That makes sense, since you applied for a mortage, loan and credit card.
How about someone who only applied the checking account without the overdraft feature? Is there a hard pull in that case?

For those that got a hard pull, what bureau did they pull? I check my credit score through CreditKarma and my score hasn't gone down since I opened this account. I realize that it's possible that they pulled one of the bureaus that CreditKarma doesn't cover.

I wouldn't believe it if it didn't happen to me too, shocking
The bank is the equal to a check kiting scheme, only ofcourse they can get away with it. Just think of all the overdraft potential. Its not a bank its a racket against the poor and uninformed.
