Thanks, but I don't think it's available everywhere.
*Product Name: Free Checking will be referred to as WaMu Free Checking™

In my state the WaMu branches have been rebranded and I'm not in CA.
seems an easy way to double your money in a month or so, the best part is you can do 5 debit card transactions instead of requiring DD because i have my DD tied up with the BofA promo

You know you can split your check and do multiple DDs, right?

not really, good idea, thanks, i'll check into that, however i plan to close the chase soon after i got the promo, so the debit may be the better route, but if another promo comes up with DD only, i 'll split the DD

You can't split Social Security deposits; in New York State you can't split NYS Retirement payments.
guys, with the previous (same) offer, I paid my cellular bill 5 times in 5 days with various small amount $1 to $5 and bonus shown up as stated in 2 weeks after the 5th use.

Is this offer valid for Chase customers who already have a free checking account?
I had a current wamu/chase free checking account when I signed up and got my $100 free cash after completing the conditions.

I did both promotions and got a $100 for each. Since I'm in California, I couldn't sign up for a Chase account if I put in a Cali zipcode, so I just put in a NY zipcode (I'm referring to the "availability" zipcode)." I'd imagine this is the same for the WAMU site, just open with a California zipcode if you're not a Cali resident.

Did you do both promotions within a calendar year of each other?

I got $125 bonus for opening a new chase checking account earlier this year. Do I qualify for this bonus offer as well? Thanks.

Chase provides tracking # for bonus promotion. Does WaMu provides tracking # also?

am i missing something? anyone getting this to work, saying offer expired...
So it looks like we will have to maintain either direct deposit or 5 debit card purchases in order to avoid the monthly fee.
Looking through the disclosure, it mentions an "Account Closing Fee". Does anyone know how long one needs to keep the account open in order to avoid this fee?
Though, if you take out all your money, I am not sure how they can get $$ from a zero balance account.
Thanks, for some reason I missed that.
They might send you to collections.

you can do an ach push to the Checking each month (from an outside bank) and it will count to meet the Direct Deposit requirement (unofficially of course...but it does work) so don't call any CSR and ask them about it! (lol)....Also, usually a condition of these bonus offers with them is that the account must remain open for a minimum of 6 months...so keep that in mind....
.No Monthly Service Fee — Chase CheckingSM has no monthly service fee when you have a direct deposit or five or more debit card purchases post to your account each statement period.
Bonus/Account Information — Offer valid 9/8/09 — 10/16/09. To qualify for the bonus you must open a new Chase CheckingSM account with a $100 minimum deposit of new money (money not currently held by Chase or its affiliates). Also, within 60 days of account opening you must initiate a monthly direct deposit which includes payroll, pension, Social Security or other government benefits, or make five debit card purchases. The bonus will be automatically deposited into your new account within 10 business days after the initial direct deposit or five debit card purchases have posted to your account. Bonus is not considered part of minimum opening deposit. Limit one checking account-related reward/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not available on account conversions or in combination with any other offer. Offer not available to existing Chase checking customers. Employees of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. and our affiliates are not eligible. Checking account must remain open for a minimum of six months or the bonus will be debited from the account at closing. Account is subject to approval. Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS form 1099-INT.

DamnoIT said: OK so just moved $200 from my account yesterday(to pay a chase card) and had a balance of $220 and noticed this morning a -5 balance. They charged me a RETURNED ITEM FEE $25, what is that? I had a $20 balance and never used the account for anything else. Others keep your eyes peeled for this sort of thing.
Sounds like you had something try to clear your account, which, since your account was only at $20, they RETURNED the item unpaid (ie. like a check or ACH debit). Of course, you would then get charged an NSF fee ($25). Any chance the payment for the Chase CC tried to come out BEFORE you were able to put the $200 in? If you really want to know, goto Chase and have them look at your transaction history. On it, it will show what tried to clear. Hope that helps. Let us know how it goes. Thanks.
