Any way to tell if you have an account with BOA other than calling them?
I did a $50 thing ages ago and haven't got statements in a while, but i dunno if they closed that or if the account is still active.
I would call them, but their customer service sucks. Last time i ended up with 2 accounts due to internet issues and my online login wouldn't work (I think it got screwed up by the 2 accounts). And calling them was useless.... 1/2 hour on the phone to get no info so i gave up in disgust and gave up on boa. Though i did at least the the bonus though i had to wait for paper statement to get the linking deposits to get the money the hell out of boa.
Step 3 on the right has a 'learn more' popup which shows: "Easily make an opening deposit into your new checking account during the application process with a debit card or a transfer from another bank."

Just opened account online. Tried to fund with a credit card, even though it specifically asked for a debit card. All appears ok for now. Will report back in a couple of days with final results
how nice for BOA to offer some of our tax dollars back to us! easy 20% ROI, but beware of BOA's notoriously mafioso fees for breathing, existing, and generally being a customer with or without a pulse
Chat InformationWelcome to an online chat session at Bank of America. Please hold while we connect you to the next available Bank of America Account Specialist. Your chat may be monitored and recorded for quality purposes. Thank you for your patience. Chat InformationYou are now chatting with Eric. Welcome to Bank of America. How can I help you complete your online checking or savings application today? Eric: Hi! My name is Eric, and thank you for joining Bank of America’s online chat service for new personal accounts! It’s a great time to open a new account, as we have a fantastic “online-only” offer running right now! May I ask in what state you plan on opening a new account? You: oregon Eric: Thank you! I’m glad you joined me today! What type of account are you looking to open? You: online checking, I want to take advantage to the $100 for opening the new account. It says I need to open with $500. Do I have to maintain a $500 balance until you guys give me the $100 or is that just to open it and I can withdraw like a regular checking account and still have that offer work? Eric: No, as long as the opening deposit is $500 then you will qualify for the $100 bonus. You: So I can put $500 in to the account then withdraw money and as long as I keep it open for 30 days and make a minimum of one transaction with the newly assigned check card I will get $100 for doing this? Eric: Correct. You: after I open the account with $500 what is the minum balance I have to keep in the account to satisfy this offer? Eric: At least $1 to keep it active. When opened online, the MyAccess checking account is FREE of the monthly maintenance fees for the LIFE of the account, with no minimum balance or direct deposit requirement... You: thats not to bad actually... could I use it to xfer funds to another customer in the bofa system? Eric: Absolutely! You: it says the new account must be open for 30 days if I do this offer an you pay me is there a penalty fee if closed after 30days if I decide I don't want it? Eric: Not at all. If the account is not open for at least 30 days, we simply do not issue the $100 You: yes, but after you issue the $100, if I decide to close the account is there a penalty? Some banks require you to keep it open for 6 months etc or will charge you the opening incentive back. Eric: No. Not at all. You: Excellent, thank you very much for your assistance this evening Eric: You’re welcome! Before you go…. Eric: … I just wanted to mention that if you are looking to establish or rebuild your credit, or simply wish to take a break from paying interest on your existing balances for a while, we do have an amazing credit card offer going on right now. Would you like me to work with you on finding a card that might meet your needs? You: not unless it has 0% apr and a balance transfer option with no fees Eric: We do have a zero % for 7 or 10 months but there is a 3% balance transfer fee... You: that is ok thanks Eric Last text message receivedEric: You’re welcome! Feel free to initiate another chat if you need to speak with us again.... It has been a pleasure chatting with you today, and take care!

Curious if there's a maximum amount allowed w. the credit card and if they're billing as a purchase or cash advance. Thanx

Here's some more info, although the final verdict is still not out.
When I funded online, it asked for a debit card number, whether it was visa/mastercard, and the 3 digit code on the back. I used a Chase credit card. It allowed funding with up to $1,000. I funded with $500, since that was the minimum to get the $100 bonus, as well as the uncertainty of whether it would be treated as a cash advance or not. I spoke with BofA today, and they said the funding went through just fine. They specifically mentioned my funding with a "credit card". It also shows the $500 balance for my account in BofA online banking.
On Chase's side, here is what the transaction looks like in my online banking: Trans Date | Post Date | Type | Description | Transaction Number | Amount 09/16/2009 | 09/17/2009 | Cash Advance | BANK OF AMERICA(Other) | ****** | $500.00
This would imply that it will be treated as a cash advance. However, my cash advance limit for this credit card is less than $500, so I don't know why it would approve it and count it as a cash advance. It does not yet show any fees associated with the transaction. I believe there is a 3% charge normally for cash advances, although I have never done one before and can't find any documentation on that.
So I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens to get a conclusive answer. I seem to have some evidence indicating it will be a cash advance, and some that it won't

In the event it's billed as a cash advance make sure you pay it off immediately -- the interest rate can be very high, beginning from the date of the transaction.

Remember there is no guarantee that credit cards won't approve charges over your credit limit.

How hard is to actually get bonus? Do you really have to pound doors at customer service, I am sure BofA would like to forget paying bonus.
I've been paid all of the BOA bonuses where I met the terms (I didnt get 1 checking bonus last year since I opened 2 accounts within months of each other to try and get 2 different bonuses lol)

When completing the app online, it never requested how I wanted to fund the account. Does that happen after they email you to say you have been approved, or did I do something wrong.

It wasn't over the credit limit, just the cash advance limit

In recent months I've opened accounts thru promos for bonuses with
Sharebuilder Chase Provident (now M&T) M&T Sovereign Bank of America BB&T Bank of the West
The last two are new and have not qualified for bonuses yet. Of the first six BOA is the only one I had to email/call for my bonus. I sent three emails and they kept telling me to wait 3 business days and contact them if I still had not received the bonus. Finally I called and the CSR could not figure out why I had not received the bonus...so he issued a counter credit for the $50 and I was happy. The bonus was for opening a My Access checking account with $25 and that was the only requirement. This was about 6 months ago. Fast forward to last week and I got a letter from BOA's Rewards Dept saying I did not receive the bonus because I already had another open checking account with them. Actually I had two. Big deal. I had closed the account a few days after getting the $50.

I haven't gotten the bonus for either my wife or myself. Going to make contact soon to see what's up. Had made contact weeks ago and it was a "should be in another month or so" (the bonus).

I am a noobie on this one --- I am ready to apply for this (x2) before it runs out I take it that the current consensus is that debit card option is fee free and risk free and good for the $100 but the credit card option is too much risk to try to parlay this for some additional Cash Back

If any of your credit reports are frozen, the application will be rejected.
I have a BofA CC and just used my username/password to sign up - so all my info is already in the system. But they still did a HARD pull on Transunion for this account.

No. I dont have my credit report frozen, but I just dont want unnessary inquires in my credit reports. I was offered (when i went to the bank to pay my mortage, previously always went to countrywide office), free chking, free chks, free safebox and $85 cash. I didnt take the offer then because i was in hurry. Now, i am thinking the offer is pretty good, thats why i want to do it online (with $100 Cash Back), but while chating, the rep said all 3 credit report will be pulled. so, i hesistated.
Just a while ago, i chatted again, this time i said i have mortage accounts with bofa, and this guy said no hard pull.

$100 showed up in my account today. I opened account in late September, but did not fund for almost a month. For some reason they never processed my debit card info on the original application. I'm actually surprised they paid it out without me having to call them.

Should check again. You might have just got the runaround to defer for 90-days. The term according to the description is "deposit to the eligible account within 90-days of its opening". Either that BOA will let you know why you're not getting $100.

leenga said: I called the 800-334-8364 number and they are telling me that because I received an incentive back in 2006 I am not eligible. I told her that account was closed long ago. She said the promotion is only one per customer. I read to her the terms of the offer where it says "The new customer is not eligible for this offer if they were a signer on a Bank of America checking account that was closed within the last three months." She said it is still one per customer and would not budge. Said she could transfer me to Sales and Marketing.
Sales department said she would submit a promo research request form and it will take 72 hours to research. After looking at my account she did come back to me and say that the check card transaction was not made within the 30 days of account opening. I told her that I'm looking at the terms of the offer and no where does it state that the transaction has to be withing 30 days. She agreed that it is not stated and said she would put that on the form.
Guess I'll wait some more and see what happens.
calling this number worked, got my check in the mail yesterday!
