LOL! I hope not I have all ready wrote my whole position off as a tax write off.
I hate this tax system. If I make $100K in a year, I pay taxes on $100K but If I lose $100K in a year, I need 33 Years to claim tax benefits on the losses.
My grandfather took a $30,000 beating in the market back in '01. Pulled all his money out and put it in a variable annuity. Died in December. As executor of his estate, I will have the pleasure of filing his final $3k capital gains loss.
Can't you claim the $100k of losses against capital gains in any future year? I know it's better against income, but if you ever sell a stock at a profit I think you can offset.

I think you can offset with only $3K loss per year.
No, they will offset future gains. So if you are sitting on 75k in losses from previous years and make 75k this year from investing, they'll cancel and you won't have to pay taxes on those gains.
Now, what I'm interested in is how the various tax programs deal with something like real estate gains vs capital losses in securities. 75k in real estate gains should be able to offset the 75k in losses from previous years. I haven't looked into what happens in this situation, but that makes sense to me.
How do you play the VXX? i understand that it's centered on market puts, but i can never make heads or tails of it's trading price. :/ should be GREEN now.

I had to drop out, couldn't bear the bear any more. and now i'm a double L loser. :/
I'm teasing Hak and ARNA longs. If you looked at the ARNA message boards over the last couple days it's everyone raging uncontrollably about bear raids.
I'm considering putting a 13/6 strangle on right now.
If you are planning to hold ARNA thru Wed, one good approach would be to make sure to take off your stop-loss. I am sure the MM's will try every trick in their basket to trip that stop-loss. As always, this still depends on your risk profile.

Not specified but should be some time during the trading day. Expect trading to be halted when the announcement is made (either way). Will be fun to watch.

I'll be looking to get back in AAPL once I exit MNST, but until then, nothing else for me, part of the reason I've been more quiet. Just holding and waiting.. especially for the 28th, anxious to see what happens when they hit the S&P 500.
Window dressing started with AA outlook being lowered just 2 weeks before the results. Now Alcoa will "surprise" the markets by beating the already lowered estimates and markets will Rally.
