hi all, this card offer a .15 cent break on gas, and there is a good exxon station near me with the best price around. i tried to convert my other citi issued cards to the exxon one, but it's a no go. they say i have to apply for a new one.

do you think it is worth it to apply? are there some changes coming that will likely kill the card soon?

thanks!!

Sorry man, I think you need the Finance Forum.

I have this card. It is a pretty good deal, you get the rebate the following month that it is earned as a direct discount off your current credit card balance. I have a Chase Bank, Marathon branded card that changed their terms and now you have to accumulate $25 in rebates, after which a $25 cash card is mailed to you... a huge delay in getting the reward, plus the potential of it getting lost in the mail, or the recipient actually getting around to using it.

I would just find a card that offers 5% rebate at any gas stations. $0.15/gal looks good now but when gas hits $3/gal it's the same as 5% rebate; and less when it goes higher. Also, you're not tied to Exxon which may or may not have the best price all the time.

I had an Exxon Citibank Card which they unilaterally decided to close recently. They have done this to thousands of people.

See http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/20/business/main5402319.shtml

I paid the entire balance in full each month so the closing is baffling. The real kick in the pants is that because the account was closed they have also deemed my rebates "forfeited" (because my account is no longer open).

I am evaluating whether I can file something with the Federal Trade Commission or something else for their deceptive practices - "Sign up for this card and we'll give you a rebate. Oh, wait you are due rebates. You're account is closed." Tread very carefully.
