It's only valid for new MyAccess checking accounts, not explicitly new customers. If you haven't had a BoA incentive in the past 6 months, you could possibly close your current myaccess checking out and open a new one a bit later. The offer is valid till 12/4/2009.

How long would one need to wait between closing an account and opening a new one for the bonus? Anyone know this about BoA?
Tacoma99 said: Your current or last account must stay open at least 6 months or you pay fees...There's only early closing fees for certain states. Check the terms for your specific state. In California there was no fee.

Would this affecy my credit score at all? I just bought a house and car and my score has dropped over 100 points. I didnt want to have any pulls for a little while to give it time to recover.
Anyone get this without having a BOA credit card? I would like to open the account, but from past experience with BOA, I'm sure they would disqualify because lack of CC with them. Or does just using the code work?

Does anyone have experience with Bank of America checking, specifically getting an account without a fee? I was all set to sign up but noticed a discrepency in the offer. The "front page" of the offer says "no monthly maintenance fee, no minimum balance, no direct deposit required". However, when I tried to sign up, the disclosure links shows a monthly fee with this account if you don't have a monthly direct deposit.

No MMF when the My Access checking is opened online. There is an addendum to the disclosure. Just ask and they should show you.

thanks OP!
Opened account today - needed to replace my Chase account that I'm not very happy with.
Don't bother with this offer...there's a new offer for $100 bonus with dep. of $500 good till 2-28-10.
They changed their eligibility req. again....now it's you can't have closed an account within the last 3 months. Now I have to wait till Feb. just before this offer ends.
Tacoma99 said: This offer expires 12-4 and I waiting to see if they extend/renew it since I'm not eligible for another bonus until 12-20.
New offer expires This offer expires on 3/31/2010

Yeah, I'm going with $75 offer since I just closed an account several weeks ago and the eligibility language of the $100 offer excludes me and the $75 offer doesn't.
Odd data point: I applied a few days ago, got an email today from BofA saying my application was declined because of something in my TU report. This is strange because (a) I didn't think this had any credit checks involved, (b) my credit is in great shape, and (c) my TU report is frozen.
Edit: Ah, perhaps not so strange. Looks like there is a hard pull involved after all. From QS in the $100 BofA promo thread:

Checking and savings accounts should be a soft rather than hard pull....also if you are covered by one of those identity protection companies...like LifeLock...nothing will be opened in your name without your permission....thereby the declination.

I went to the spoofee site and looked at the deal thread. It was filled with folks who hate BofA and told stories of unfair practices. I'm still on the fence about it. How's their checking account online interface? Can you sort transactions or anything? I like those types of features for budgeting purposes.

BofA is a horrible, evil company run by trolls and warlocks. Look at the old fatwallet threads about BofA and you'll see most of us feel the same way as those over at spoofee. With BofA, you take the money and run (close the account as soon as the terms and conditions allow).

Their Online Banking and Bill Pay are outstanding...and they have a tremendous convenience in size (6,000 branches and 18,000 atms nationwide)....so don't listen to the BOA hater trolls here...and you can easily avoid any fees with them by just behaving with your accounts..not doing stupid stuff like over drafting, etc....they even give you a free "yodlee type" interface you can add various other accounts to monitor, etc...
As far as using their ach transfer system...they are like most mega banks...free transfers in... $3 fee for transferring money out...of course no fee if you ach pull or push from an outside bank...
I'd rate Customer Service on the phone to be very good to excellent...on the secure e-mail system to be fair to good....
