PNC Bank was recently featured on fatwallet because they offered a $100 signup bonus for opening a checking account.
I just received an overdraft notice which referenced a fraudulent charge placed on my PNC bank account. This account has seen very little use and has been open for only a short amount of time; it is difficult to imagine how an identity thief could obtain an account or debit card number under these conditions.

Like how was the charge posted (Check, ACH, Debit card)? What did PNC do when you called them (restore the money, close the account, tell you to go away)? What do you want form US (is this info only for us, you want help, you are starting a blog)?
Until you add more, your origial post is nothing more than a whine!
PNC typically is -very- good at dealing with mess like this as long as charges are in fact caused by a fraud. I have also never had an issue them waiving certain service fees such as a fee on an item returned unpaid.
It happened to me too. This is what i posted on the PNC virtual wallet $100 bonus thread:
niniss said:Hey, something weird just happened to my PNC account and I want to warn you guys.
I opened the acct on Sept 16th and ACH deposited $400 as it reqested. Since then I made 2 bill payments and left $15 in my account. Yesterday I received a letter from the bank that my account has been seriously overdraft and incurred over $100 in overdraft fees and penalties. Of course it didn't make sense to me so i logged on to my account to see what's going on. There I saw a combination of manual checks and electronic charges were posted on my account and therefore caused the overdraft. When i clicked on the check images i was both puzzled and horrified. The checks were issued by "Centra Bank" in Hagerstown in MD. A strange woman's name and MD address (I'm in TN) was on the check of course. But the weirdest thing is the bank routing numbers and account numbers on the checks are identical to mine. I didn't even know there's possibility of 2 different banks share 2 same account numbers, much less 2 same routing numbers. I called PNC right away and confirmed that no two banks can have the same routing number. They couldn't tell me why that woman in another bank would share the same account and routing numbers with me, but said would reverse all the charges on my account and put stop payment alert on all outstanding checks. They also told me to close my account and reopen another one. I'm not sure if I want to open another account with PNC after this incident, especially after they told me that unless i want to file for police report they don't plan to investigate the woman on the check and her bank "Centra bank." It is rather strange to me why PNC is not concerned that there's another bank has PNC's routing numbers. Anyways, if anyone in this forum knows about "Centra bank" in MD please comment. I will also google to see if this is a legit bank.

They list it as an electronic check. I'm still trying to get a refund of the overdraft fees.
Its a warning. If a new account whose number has never been printed on paper (ever), and for which no checks exist can be victimized, it is possible that PNC has some serious internal problems.
Have you considered the possibility that this screw-up has nothing to do with PNC. Perhaps the lady sharing your routing number and account number had her checks printed improperly either by her bank or by a check printing service she selected. Hopefully the matching routing/account numbers were and accident and not a deliberate event. In either case, this does not appear to be a PNC problem.
Didn't you read other posts? I'm not the only one here got this problem. How likely the printing company screw-up 2 (at least) customers that belong to the same bank and both had accounts opened at the same time approximately? Oh, get this, just verified that the "Centra Bank" address on that woman's check is invalid.

What's wrong with this website? You'd think that people would appreciate others to inform/warn them of such problems. I know I would. But all i see here seem to be criticize, indifferent or cold shoulers. Maybe I'm not familar with FW members. Does FW = self centered, selfish, or ignorant?

My guess - someone has figured out the numbering system PNC uses for new checking accounts (or has an insider telling them about new checking account numbers) and is having checks printed up with fake bank/address/name combinations but valid PNC checking account and routing numbers.

Further enhanced by general incompetence. Despite the amount of mail that I've sent them warning them of this, there appears to be another fraudulent charge. Oh, and I still can't find anyone who will do anything other than "put it into the system" that I am supposed to get a refund of the bounced check charges for this.
Did you call them? I find emails are pretty usless. I called and talked to Andrew, he's pretty effective. They refunded all the charges within a week. But their system is definitely weak because right before they finally took my account down i still saw an ACH charge trying to go through. Anyways, yesterday i checked my account is gone, along with all the account histories.

Called, emailed and sent paper letters. I finally got someone with a high school education and got the overdrafts refunded. Unfortunately, they're trying to process the same fraudulent check again.
