I understand TD Bank has a purchase fee free Visa gift card if you are a customer, and at one time AAA waived the purchase fee if you were a member. Is anyone else aware of any purchase fee free debit/gift card offers?

Thanks!

There are usually a few American Express gift card codes floating around, but you still have to pay for shipping.

second the AMEX, and last year if you bought 4 or 5 they waived the shipping.

Just got an email from AMEX a few minutes ago to purchase gift cards fee-free:

The NEW American Express ® Gift Card is even better - with no monthly fees and no lost value, you're giving a gift friends and family can unwrap for virtually anything.
Use your American Express Card to buy your holiday Gift Cards early and enjoy these benefits:
• Fee-Free Gift Cards: Get 100% off the purchase fees with code EMC11A
• Receive a year of Food & Wine or Travel + Leisure with your Gift Card order, at no additional cost

So, basically, they wave $3.95 charge for a gift card and no additional charges post-purchase. You still have to pay shipping thou.

Edit: Use code EMC11A with your American Express Card by 12/31/09

If using an AMEX Card to purchase AMEX Gift Cards, does that count toward rewards (ie a purchase) or as a cash transaction (not reward eligible)? Need to get my card level up to gold by the end of December.

Just heard from AAA that they will have a special holiday promotion from November 23-December 31 wherein if you put a minimum load of $50.00 on a Visa gift card, the card is free. All AAA branches have this promotion. Must be a AAA member.

Why does everyone hate cash? Or checks if you need to mail it out.

FYI, the TD Bank Visa gift card cannot be purchased with a credit card. Must be cash or withdrawn from account.

Then this may only apply to the Mid-Atlantic region.

Yeah, but what do you gain through buying an AMEX GC with AMEX CC? It's not like SPG points are earned again when purchases are made with the gift card.

If you are buying these gift cards as gifts [ sorry for tautology ], then rewards should not be of such an issue (as you're gifting 20-100X the amount of the rewards anyway).

The same reason people buy coins...earn the points.

You figure if you're gonna gift the money anyway you might as well get some rewards out of it. It's a FWF mentality.

I will also note that it is sometimes useful to accelerate purchases to meet minimums.

In the example of the SPG card, if you're close for the free Gold elite level, this could be handy (if it counts).
