Due to all the talk about Delta Community CU in the Alliant CU thread, I figured it's about time Delta Community CU get their own thread, so that the Alliant thread can remain on topic to discussion of Alliant.
Delta Community CU Link

From the Bank Deals blog post about Delta Community CU:
"Credit union membership is open to members of the GettingAhead Association. This appears open to people from any state who pay a $5 membership fee. You can be immediately eligible for credit union membership if you're a resident of one of several Georgia counties in the Atlanta metro area, work for one of their Select Employer Groups, or via family (not just immediate family). Please see the credit union's eligibility page for more details. Membership requires a minimum $5 deposit into the savings account."

Thank you aviationwiz....Though i have accounts with Alliant CU also...i recently decided to give Delta Community Credit Union a try.....i must say that i have been very impressed with them...Their rates aren't as high....but if you are looking for a really nice CU to use for day to day banking needs...they might fill the bill nicely.....

Some of the nice features include:

1) Outstanding Online Banking Interface....very attractive and thorough and set up really nice....

2) Excellent Bill Pay.....Most payees should go electronic but for those that go by paper check, the money is not taken out until the payee cashes the check...and you can then view the image of the check online as well....The money for electronic payments are deducted on the day the electronic payment is made...

3) Extremely Fast ACH Transfers.....You can link as many external accounts as you wish....
All transfers placed before 12 noon Eastern Time on a business day will get transferred IN or OUT the NEXT DAY....and no hold placed on ACH transfers in.......
(You may transfer up to $10,000 per day...$30,000 per month maximum)......

4) Extensive Free Atm Networks
They are on both the COOP and ALLPOINT NETWORK so you have about 58,000 surcharge free atms Nationwide that you can use....excellent directory at their website....

5) Member of CU Shared Branching
Which means you can use branch service of other Credit Unions nationwide that participate in that network....
Additionally, you can make ATM Deposits at Credit Unions that allow that through the COOP Network (you will find those in the ATM Locator at the website)
And that would also include 7-11 Stores that have the "Vcom type" atm terminal which accepts Scanned Check Deposits.....

6) Outstanding Customer Service....
Fast and prompt when you call on the phone...i have found that to be pretty efficient.....When you secure e-mail during business hours, they often respond in less then 30 minutes...

I should also note that though their rates are lower...they do have a Money Market Account that has higher (tiered) yields)....and the last few years they have been giving extra Cash Back to all the membership in the form of 4.5% extra bonus on the total dividends you received during the year.....(so for example...if you had $1000 in interest over the year...they put $45 into your account)....

They are almost as large as Alliant CU...5 Star rated by Bauer Financial (like Alliant)...and were the former Delta Employees Credit Union..and in recent years has expanded the membership...you can qualify simply by joining the "Get Ahead Association" for $5.00....

It may not be the place where you'd want to sock a large amount of cash...but if your looking for an excellent "day to day" banking package with lots of free atm access and easy deposits...you might want to consider them....I've only been with them a short time and really enjoy banking with them

Hard pull? The ACH feature seems well worth it... thanks OP and others!

Do they have remote check deposit? how do they compare to DCU?

Delta seems unique in that they offer free worldwide primary LDW on rental cars for their personal Visa cards.

Does anyone on FW have experience with this benefit or their credit card underwriting process?

you are very welcome

i think they might do a hard pull...but just one...even if you open more then one account.....yes..the ach is incredibly fast (as long as you get it in before 12 noon Eastern Time....

they don't have remote deposit...but they do offer a service where you can make an online deposit...and get immediate use of the money and you just have to make sure they get the check in the mail within a 10 business day period....that isn't enabled during your first 30 days with them, but i believe it gets added on automatically sometime after that (i will have to check with them about that and post back).....

I think they also have nice rates on various kind of loans and Credit Cards that look fairly nice as well....and a "Rewards Points" program on both the Credit Cards and Debit Card....

Their set up is very modern...efficient and easy to use....and they seem to be very well organized....the Online Banking is in full "real time".....

I initially opened with the Savings and Checking...and once i was set up, i added on the Money Market Account which was added instantly.....
They are very efficient in getting you set up quickly....

I'm local, so I'll probably open an account either way (and may stop into a branch), either way thanks for the heads up (and more helpful information)!

Some research at creditunionaccess.com yielded interesting information. The summary provides CU members, assets, employees, and number of members per employee for each institution.

Delta has 342 members per employee. Alliant has 818 members per employee. This may explain some of the service differences, and why Alliant pays higher interest rates. Alliant has about 30% more members than Delta and twice the assets, but Alliant has fewer employees.

Most of the other quality CUs I looked at had from 340-390 members per employees. PenFed has 803 members per employee.

For further comparison, Delta has about $16,000 in assets per member and Alliant $25,200 per member.

Alliant's assets of $25,000+ per member is the highest by far of all the credit unions at which I looked.

PS The Delta-Alliant employee difference may not be quite as great as it sounds. Delta has 22 branch locations whereas Alliant has 10. Branches are employee intensive, so with Alliant maintaining fewer branches they would need fewer employees and be spending less on buildings and office space.

I e-mailed them late last evening and got a very prompt reply this morning regarding the Online Deposits Service....It can be done from the Checking Account only at this time....and you do need a printer on your computer because a deposit receipt needs to be mailed in with the check....

Regarding of when the service is available for new members, it is added automatically once you have a balance in your Checking for at least 60 consecutive days....
This is a mail in check type service...not scanned deposits....It is essentially the same as what Alliant CU calls "e deposits" as opposed to their "e deposits plus" service.....

I'll check with them to find out what the maximum amount would be available for immediate use.....of course, you should mail it in promptly if you use the service...they have to receive it within 10 business days...

Edit: according to their answer..it might be as much as $2000 immediately available...they said it is determined when they activate the function on your account...

Can you open your account funding with a CC? If so, how much?

No...actually you can't.....I just opened with two small deposits (1 for savings and 1 for checking) and once i logged into Online Banking, i set up a few linked outside accounts and transferred the money i would need there, using their super speedy ACH system.....

I had received everything in about a week (debit card, pin # and welcome package with a few printed Starter Checks)......

It's a nice replacement for a local "day to day" banking set up, such as BOA, Chase, Wells Fargo...etc... especially if you have some local COOP atms you can make deposits to it...or CU Shared Branching Credit Unions.... even like using it better then my Schwab Investor Checking Account....

Are there minimum amounts required for ACH transfers in and out? For example, can I ACH out .01, or does it have to be a minimum amount, like Fidelity's requirement of $10?

by the way...there is a pdf form that you can mail in to them (in the "forms and applications" section of their website) which has a $30 bonus when opening a Checking Account...
you can use this form seperately after doing the Online Application to apply for Share Savings and Checking.....

you get $10 for activating you debit card and signing up for their "Rewards Points" program (as well as a 2000 point bonus of Rewards Points too!)...
$10 for a Direct Deposit to Checking (ach push in from another bank will work for that...unofficially of course...lol)
$10 for registering for Online Banking and doing at least one re-curring bill pay (i set up a "recurring bill pay" to myself..made one payment to myself and cancelled future ones after i got the credit for it)....

I already got the $30 cash credited (to the Savings) and used 1500 rewards points to get 2 Movie Tickets for AMC Movie theatres...and that's worth about $20 in itself...
So, it is like a $50 bonus....

Doesn't seem to be much interest in them here...probably because the rates aren't has high as Alliant Cu..but if you are looking for a great day to day banking package with reasonable rates (especially in the Money Market Account which i added on later) and excellent Online Banking/ Excellent Bill Pay/ Great Customer Service and tons of free ATMs (through COOP and Allpoint)..it's a really cool set up.....

Just not for the "rate chasers" here

I use to use the Schwab Investor Checking but i like this set up much better for my "day to day" needs....
I wouldn't open with them just to get the bonus and close it later...but if you would like the set up..then the "bonus" is just "frosting on the cake"....

I heard that their branches are really nice....your layover in Atlanta Airport will be very convenient for getting into them...wish they had some near me (New York City)....
You'll probably even leave there with your debit card in hand! (i read they can do that "in branch" when a new account is opened).....
