I just received a letter from Citibank that says they are sorry that they have to raise my interest rate to 19.99% in order to continue to provide me with access to credit. They must have felt bad because because they are offering me a program where I can earn interest back each month that can help me offset the increase in my purchase APR. Here's how:
* Charge $500 or more in purchase * Make my payment on time each month.
Each month I do this, I will recieve a crdit eaqual to 10% of my total interest charge and this will help me offset the increase in my purchase APR. This seems quite generous of them. How on earth did they ever garner the nick name $h**ty Bank? That seems quite undeserved.

So if you spend more than $500 a month and pay on time they reduce your interest rate from 20% to 18% for that month. I'm only hoping you misread the 10% as a discount on the purchase, rather than just the interest.. because otherwise.. a fool and his money are soon parted
I just got the same letter its 10% of your intrest or if you opt out you can keep your current terms until your anniversy date at which time they will close your account. I opted out.
haha how kind. So your effective interest rate is 17.99%. Very nice.

I vaguely recall receiving such a letter, and I remember reading and saying "huh"? What I can say is that the letter was extremely misleading. Then I reminded myself that this was a solicitation letter from Citibank and it can't be anything good. I tossed it into the bin.
This offer qualifies for those that want to win a "Dumb and Dumber" contest. The dumbiest of the lot went for it. I hope they enjoy working lots of overtime.
