Hi there. I froze my credit report from Experian. But most of the CC companies pulled my report from Experian and I am sure some of them wouldn't pull other bureaus instead.
So in that case, do I need to temporarily unfreeze my experian report for a short time like 2 months? Or can I just wait till CC companies deny my application?
When they decline my application, will simply giving them my access PIN for unfreezing work for the cc companies, or do I need to unfreeze the report exclusively myself?
I just want to give the access to those that require Experian report only, rather than those that can pull from other two bureaus instead, in order to minimize the number of hard inquiries on my Experian report.
Apply, wait for the decline, call, give PIN, get declined again for having shitty credit.

You have to ask them and not assume. (I still can't believe someone was able to get American Express to pull Transunion, but stranger things happen and who knows whether they were on the up and up or b.s.ing in the first place; props to anyone in a region where AMEX will.)
Keep it frozen, call and ask for reconsideration and if they'll pull another report. If they won't, and you absolutely positively must have the card, then you can unfreeze your report for like 24 hours or whatever (no need to do it for 2 months) call em back for the recon and they'll pull right on the spot. Or you can follow mewanna's instructions and give them your pin without paying to unfreeze.
Once you're approved, they can soft pull your credit, frozen or not, whenever they want.
Sometimes, a freeze frees you from a bad decision. Do you really want/need these cards? Are your scores worth it?
Good luck, DreamSun.

Great thanks, Nonaii and Mewanna. So you mean the CC company can get my Pin from me and access my report by themselves, right, Nonaii? This is what I just wanted to know.

Thanks.Your PIN only works for you to unfreeze the report yourself; despite what you might've been told, issuers cannot (or will not) use it to gain access.
If you want to minimize EXP inquiries, you submit your applications. Some issuers may pull an alternative automatically. Those that dont, you call and try to give them your PIN, be persistant because most you talk to wont know what you are talking about (dont specifically ask them to pull an alternative, as it implies you have something to hide on EXP) - some issuers will then 'give up' and pull an alternative just to get you to stop trying to give them your PIN. Then you unfreeze your report for a week, and call up the remaing issuers and tell them they can reprocess the application since EXP is unfrozen.
Regardless, when you unfreeze the report only do so for the shortest time - 7 days - unless you have a reason for making it longer. Once you've unfroze it and told the issuers they can access it, they'll do so immediately so no need to leave it open for 2 months (just be sure to call them immediately after unfreezing).

This is sooooo tricky, but much clearer. Thanks, Glitch99. You helped me last time, too.
