Thanks for the post....we appreciate you!

The title should read disabled veterans, actually it should read veterans with a 100% service connected disability. Just being a veteran gets you very little if anything in most states. If you get FUBAR enough though you may get some good discounts. What a deal! You earned it!
The Veterans Benefit Network seems to have the most up to date info on vets benefits and current legislative changes. VBN

In Georgia any veteran who served on active duty can get their drivers license for free.

If they served during wartime and have more than 20 years of service. Is that all you get unless you are a disabled vet in Georgia? That is lame. You get to save the cost of a DL renewal every 5 or 7 years.

Very little to you may mean alot more to others. Those who opted out or didn't qualify for the GI Bill can get free education or reduced tuition. I don't think that is very little. Why do you have to take something so simple and turn it into a negative thing. You can't find something you like on my post then MOVE ON!! Others may find useful information like I did. If you don't like your states benefits then move or contact your state reps. Alaska offers ALL honorably dischard veterans a 25% discount off land purchases. I wouldn't call that VERY LITTLE. Of course you cannot do enough for a disabled vets. Oh, bye the way WE DID earn it.

Colorado:
Retired Military Pay: Members of the Armed Forces can exclude up to $20,000 in any one taxable year from their retirement pay

Actually you are wrong at least about the 100% disbaled part! In California if you are any percentage disabled vet then your kids will get free tuition paid to ANY UC or California owned college of your choice. If you have a 10% VA disability you can get a VA home loan and get the Funding fee waived. This saved me over $6000.00 this year when I bought my home.

It's funny, but your kids get the tuition waiver even if you're "0%" disabled. That's the rating the VA gives to vets who experienced any sort of recurrent service related injury that's currently not payable but could conceivably lead to more serious issues in the future.

Thanks OP -- I found out that I will qualify for a $5,000 grant toward a down payment on a house when I get off Active Duty. I also found out that I will save $1800 a year on my property taxes. [Iowa]

I will not be retired and I am not at all disabled from my service, yet I will still qualify simply for serving on Active Duty. I also found out that if I am injured in a combat zone and medevac'd, I qualify for $2500 a month until I am fully recovered (max $10k) to defray the cost of family members traveling, etc.

Looks like certain veterans are eligible to purchase certain state land destined to be auctioned off. You get 25% off fair market value. You may want to wait for the auction. If they could get close to FMV I doubt they would be auctioning it off.
I don't see any education benefits for the vet with the link the OP provided but if you die or are a POW or MIA your spouse or dependent gets free tuition.
The highlight for AK seems to be the birthday card from the Governor.

According to the link the OP provided.
California Education Benefits College Tuition Fee Waivers for Veterans’ Dependents Waiver of mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University or University of California campus. Who May Be Eligible: Plan A: The spouse, registered domestic partner, child (under the age of 27) or unmarried surviving spouse of a veteran who is totally service-connected disabled, or who has died of service-connected causes may qualify. Plan B: The child of a veteran who has a permanent service-connected disability. The child’s income and value of support provided by a parent cannot exceed the national poverty level.

If you purchased with a VA loan you are paying more in the long run with a higher rate and like I said, you have to be disabled to get the funding fee waived.

Agreed -- Not that it's something I want to have happen, but IF it does happen it's nice to know that there is a little extra money involved....

After thinking about these "benefits" a little more, I think they are well deserved after paying state income taxes for so many years while not living there!!

Free Applebees on Veterans Day!

any bebnefit list for non disabled-veterans?

I did enroll in the GI Bill deduction. Left the service in 2002. I think I have till 2012 to use or lose? Can I get the deductions refunded?

RetMil you need an attitude check, you sound like a REMF. In Texas every one with a Texas HOR who honorably serves 181 days of active service (reserve/training time doesn't count) gets 150 hours tuition free at any state university or college. I get my license plates for free every year (I obviously had more frontline duty) with a purple heart Nam and my property taxes are frozen. I think the thread is a good idea since I deal every day through the GI Forum with fellow vets who don't know what they are entitled to.

Go right to the source and you'll find the details. 0% or more disability for kids. http://www.cdva.ca.gov/vetservice/waivers.aspx

You were in after September 11, 2001 and if you were honorably discharged you may qualify for the new Post-9/11 GI Bill. It is good for 15 years after you leave the service. They pay up to a certain amount allowed by each state and Pay you a living allowance that equals the rank of E-5 BAH in your area. They also pay you $1000 a year extra for books. This program began in Aug 2009. I am enrolled in it now and go to school full time with no worky. It is great. Currently the BAH for E-5 in my area is around $1900 a month. You might want to check out the VA.gov education benefits. With the Post-9/11 GI Bill you have 36 months of entitlement. After the 36 months you get back the money you paid into your original GI Bill. If the college you want to attend is more than the allowed state amount, there is a program called the Yellow Ribbon program. The school if participating will pay the difference, so you don' have to pay a dime. Here is a link for the Post 9/11 GI BIll on the VA website Link

Also I bought a new house a few months ago and got a 5.00% interest rate with my VA loan. I saved $6900.00 by not paying a funding fee. Also you only need to be 10% disabled like I said not 100% disabled like you said. The interest rate between a regular loan and a VA loan was very little and didn't come close to exceeding $6900 not to mention I also had ZERO down payment and no PMI with my VA loan! Now please GO AWAY if you can't add anything useful to the thread.
