I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to counter the hit on my credit score due to closure of one of my oldest credit cards, with one of my highest limits [$11k]. I received this letter in the mail yesterday: We are writing to inform you that your Citi MasterCard account... will be closed as of February 25, 2010... We are taking this action because we have decided to stop offering a Citi MasterCard with the features of your account. Our decision was not based on any information regarding your individual account or your credit standing.
If you haven't heard of this card, it featured 0% APR for 3 months on charges over $99, and 0% APR for 6 months on charges over $299. I would carefully pay off all debts before they started to charge interest on the charges. When they sent a mail last month removing the 0% for 3 months feature, I thought that would be the end of it but I guess they took it one further this month and decided to scrap the card altogether.
I'm worried about the impact on my Credit since I may consider purchasing a home in the next 2 years. I have one other Citi card, the CitiForward card [$6.5K limit]. Should I ask if the Citi MasterCard limit scan be transferred to my Citi Forward card or a new card? Should I try to look for another card to sign up for to counteract this close? Thanks

My wife just got this letter too. Not sure yet if I'll be able to convince her to call them and try to get the CL shifted to different card though.

Try calling them and see if they can convert this card to a different type... Citi has changed the type of card I have in the past. That was because of my calling them though. This way your oldest card still remain open and on your credit history.

+1. My wife's and my oldest cards are both from Citi, and have been through product conversions. For example, my wife's card started life as an AT&T Universal Card, spent some time as an AAdvantage Card, and is now a Dividend Select Card.
myFICO forums is a great place to find backdoor numbers. Citi: 800-950-5114

Just spoke with the rep from the customer service number provided (1-866-510-2761) and the representative specifically said that they cannot transfer my credit limit to a new card; I can only apply for a brand new card from the Citi website. Trying one of the backdoor numbers now...
Just spoke with the rep from the GetHuman list (800-633-7367) and was told the same thing: Consolidation of accounts is not offered, and they cannot transfer my Credit limit to a new or existing Citi card. Anybody have better luck then me?

Got the same results as gunnmjk and sunams. Does anyone know if any other credit card company that offers something similar to this promo card?
