This is for Windows PCs.

I've heard this is a bear to uninstall. Think I'll pass. (Do a search in google)

I prefer the AccuWeather one for Android. The weather.com always crashes on my Android.

What does a Windows app do that the web site doesn't already do without installing new software on your computer?

i've had this on my computer for some time and like it. i've never tried to uninstall it, so i can't speak to that, but i like it. it's run without any gliches and hasn't affected anything else on my computer.

As an IT professional, I've found software from The Weather Channel has always been problematic. Some people never have trouble but a lot have trouble that is fixed by uninstalling it, and uninstalling it can often be difficult.

As far as I know, the only thing that most TWC software can do on a computer that its website cannot already do is give you a tray icon indicating current weather and maybe pop up alerts. There are alternatives* for a tray icon, and TWC will email you alerts about which a simple filter in your email software will happily alert you (which, BTW, you can have sent to your phone using your carrier's email<->SMS gateway address rather than giving TWC your phone number).

Anyway, I thought this forum was more for free stuff that you'd usually have to pay for, or at least remarkable free stuff that would go unnoticed...not common free software that's always around.

*: I just googled that one up. It was one of the first results. I installed it. Seems nice, and does not suffer from the trendy-programming-language-itis and nonstandard installer issues that TWC's crap does, nor does it install crapware when you install it, nor have any other qualities that IT folks dislike, but it's loaded will all kinds of cool features including alerts, radar wallpaper, logging, etc.

kaspersky is giving me hell with this app. it has a lot of bloatware...also installs bars which are useless...removed...better off using the site

Of course Win7 (and Vista) has gadgets for weather that will install on your desktop.

Revo Uninstaller will remove stuff that Windows won't (or can't). This has saved me from a lot of aggravation.

The Technology Forum used to have the word "Computers" in the title. Software programs generally went there, if they were always free ones, and there hasn't been a previous post (because the free program is new). I'm guessing that they may still belong there, but maybe not anymore (might be a question to ask the mods about). I have seen always free programs dumped in OT, especially printables. Generally ones available for free for a short time, go in Free Stuff if they would otherwise be under $10, those valued over $10 technically belong in Hot Deals, though they may stay in Free Stuff. It's the mods call.

Display is full of ads, very annoying.

wunderground.com is better (and free)

Agreed! I love that program. I use the portable version, since my goal is to have fewer programs installed...

That's the OEM portable one, which you just grab the .exe from the .zip...apparently now there's a PAF version but that's overkill for something that can be just a single plain .exe file.

The wether report is very important for us all.

I'd stick to the 1-clickweather plugin for firefox. TWC PC application has always been bloatware.

So now we can get the newest weather. Great app.

Loaded with spyware... thanks, Weather Channel
NOT impressed

Has been replace with Forecastfox Weather (but this one is having problems with newest Firefox, FYI):

Forecastfox addon

I'll wait or just get my weather online...simplest thing to do.
