Just Announced! Some new items for the California Academy of Sciences:

NEW! Added 10/2/10 - Fleet Week at California Academy of Sciences, October 7 to 12, Regular Open Hours - In honor of San Francisco Fleet Week, all active duty military personnel are eligible for free admission to the Academy from October 7-12. Must show an active duty military ID card at the ticket window. Offer is valid for general admission from October 7-12, and NightLife on October 7. Must be 21 or older to attend NightLife. The 2011 Neighborhood Free Days Calendar has been released! Click here for the 2011 California Academy of Sciences Neighborhood Free Days Calendar for San Francisco residents.. The Academy also announced that visitors will be charged an extra $5 if they purchase their tickets at the box office during the following days:
• November 26 through November 28, 2010
• December 26, 2010 through January 2, 2011
The Academy will offer extended hours on these days, remaining open until 6:00 pm.

>> Zeum has been added to the Bank of America Museums on Us program for the 2011 year. Check them out this weekend and every first full weekend of every month in 2011. This children museum does not have a monthly free day outside of this program.

>> Added here on 12/31/10 - Wednesday, February 2, 2011, Hours 9:30am to 5pm: Homeschool Day at California Academy of Sciences - For San Francisco homeschool families only - two adults may attend with their children (ages 4-17) for free. Children ages 0-3 are also free. Registration required and begins on January 12, 2011. Click here for complete details.

>> Added here on 12/31/10 - Saturday, February 5, 2011, Hours 10am to 3pm: AT&T Park - Home of the San Francisco Giants - You are not getting the normally-you-have-to-pay ballpark tour, but the park is open for free on Saturday, February 5, during the KNBR/Giants Fan Fest. In previous years, during this event, the Giants opened its dugout, press boxes, field, etc. You could do a self-guided tour, even get to sit on the bench and get players' autographs! >> California Academy of Sciences - There is no longer a sponsor for the monthly free day. For 2012, the museum will be free on the following Sundays - 2/5, 6/3, 9/16, and 12/9. Additionally, you will get in free during the usual Neighborhood Free Days. Click here for the 2012 California Academy of Sciences Neighborhood Free Days Calendar for San Francisco residents.

>> Bank of America's Museums On Us continues in 2012. Museum of the African Diaspora is no longer free under this program. Museums that are free are: Contemporary Jewish Museum, de Young Museum, Legion of Honor, and Children's Creativity Museum.

>> Asian Art Museum - Due to New Year's Day closure, the free day is moved to this coming Sunday, 1/8.

>> Sunday, January 29, 2012, Hours 10am-3pm: San Francisco Zoo Lunar New Year Celebration - To commemorate the Year of the Dragon, Lunar New Year at the San Francisco Zoo features interactive, culturally-themed family entertainment for all ages. Come see Chinese acrobatic performances, traditional Lion and folk dancing, Chinese yo-yo tricks and more. Activities and entertainment at the Zoo's Chinese New Year celebration is free with paid admission. Here are some edits that were made to the listing since last month:

Federal Reserve Bank - Removed. It no longer offers free tours to the public on Fridays at 2pm. The tour is now intended for school groups, community groups, and business groups.

TCHO Chocolate Factory Tour - Reservations are now recommended, not required.

San Francisco Botanical Garden - Has been free everyday for SF residents with proof of residency, but now it's free for everyone on the second Tuesday of each month, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design - Now closed to the public. To re-open in June 2012. We should know the free day next month.

SF Camerawork - Now always free from Tuesday through Friday.
