The German magazine PC Welt is giving away a free full license to WinRAR 3.62. The license will also work for the English version of the program.

Select Anderes Land (other land) for country and enter an email for the key to be sent. The second url in the email you get will be the link to download the license file and will look like https://covermount.win-rar.com/pcwelt0508/download.php?email=youremail.

Download the program at: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar362.exe and install. The program will have a trial license so you can use the program for the next step.

Download the rarkey.rar file to a directory. Unrar the rarkey.rar file and place the resulting rarreg.key file in your c: / program files / winrar folder. The new full license will replace your temporary trial license.

To check if your registration was successful, open winrar, go to help > about winrar, and you should see the program licensed to "PC Welt Covermount 05/08".

The big change for most users from the older v3.51 that we got for free a while back is multicore support for faster processing.

FYI: There is a newer 3.71 version of the program with fixes for Vista, so while v3.62 should be fine for XP uses, Vista users may still have issues with the older version.

I am using version 3.61 with Vista Ultimate and have had zero problems in about 2 years so Vista users ... have at it!

Nice find OP. The download sites are very slow most likely due to the FW effect. Upgraded from 3.42 to 3.62.

The key you get is a generic key that registers the program to "PC Welt Covermount 05/08". With such a universal key, you can install v3.62 of the program on multiple computers.

The PC Welt site is being slashdotted at the moment. However, since the key is generic, if you have v3.62 of the program, the key file can be shared and will no doubt eventually become generally available.

Yeah, I give up...after trying for over an hour to get the key. Hopefully someone will just post the key, as I see no legality issues with that, since it's free and the key isn't unique.
