Just got the email about 15 minutes ago and please let me explain...
The CrossOver is an application for Intel-based Macintosh to run certain Windows applications without using a virtual environment or booting into BootCamp. Of course it doesn't support ALL applications, but it's quite handy and works well. Again the program is based on some free method (X11 and such), however it is a hassle to do it (I tried).
Here's their official site about the CrossOver. Remember this is an offer for the STANDARD, not the professional. Also on that page there is a list of what program it can run.
So how you get it? Well here's the catch. You have to use Trial-Pay. No don't boo me just yet... listen, click HERE to go the special offer page from Trial-Pay, put in your email and name there.
After that it'll show you a list of trial offers. What you can do is pick an offer that you can try for free, like the "Real Broadband Essentials" (PC Only, I suggest you sign up the whole process in a PC rather then OS X.)
It'll pop up a new window take you to the Real Broadband Essentials sign-up page. DON'T CLOSE THE TRIAL-PAY WINDOW YET! Yes it will ask you for the CC information but since it's Real, I'd trust them. No up-front cost neither.
So follow the ordering page, when you are done, sign in to the Real Broadband Essentials. After that? Go back to the Trial-Pay page, click "Check my status" and VOLIA! Wait for the registration & activation email (arrived in 30 seconds for me) which will take you to the CodeWeavers, register with the activation code provided in the email and you are done! Don't forget to download the CrossOver and change out your account password for support and program activation!
After that? Enjoy and CANCEL all those trials. DONE.
P.S.: The Real stuff cancellation number is 1-866-212-1343, make sure you have the account number, which in the email they sent you.
Minneapolis StarTribune news story 'Lame Duck challenge' met, so software is free Credit dropping gas prices with a free software offer on Tuesday (November 1st) for Mac users.
President Bush gets a lot of grief over the economic woes that have occurred under his watch, but now people can thank him for something spiffy: Free software. It comes courtesy of the Great American Lame Duck Presidential Challenge.
In July, St. Paul software developer CodeWeavers came up with the gimmick to make its products available free for a day if any one of five positive (but seemingly unlikely at the time) things happened during Bush's last six months in office: gas drops to $2.79 a gallon, milk drops to $3.50 a gallon, U.S. jobs exceed 138 million, the Twin Cities median home price returns to $233,000 or Osama bin Laden is captured.
Bingo on No. 1.
When CodeWeavers CEO Jeremy White saw that gas was $2.79 a gallon during a recent fill-up, "I screamed, 'Woohoo!' Then I yelled, 'Oh, crap!' as I realized every American can now have my software for free -- kind of upsets my fourth-quarter revenue projections," he said.
So on Tuesday, all of CodeWeavers products, which allow Mac and Linux users to run Windows applications, can be downloaded for free -- instead of $40 each -- at the company's website, www.codeweavers.com.
