The PhotoImaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMDA) and Soldiers' Angels have joined forces to send 10,000 free family portraits to deployed soldiers around the globe this holiday season.

Military Families: We know that a family photograph means so much to a soldier, especially during the holiday season. That's why the Portraits of Love Project was born.

We've put together a network of photographers who have agreed to donate their time during the month of September to take a free portrait of families whose loved ones will be serving overseas this holiday season. Photos will be uploaded to a website where you can have your photo sent directly to your soldier for free! It's our way of saying thank you to the brave men and women who defend our country.

Photographers will begin taking photographs on September 2nd.

Here's all you have to do to have your 5"x7" portrait sent:

1. Click below to find a listing of participating photographers in your area.
2. Call or e-mail the photographer (or military base) to set up an appointment. (You will need to present a valid military ID in order to participate in this program - please follow the specific instructions for military base sign-ups)
3. Have your portrait taken (starting September 2nd) - the photographer will then upload this portrait to their SeeHere.com web album.
4. The photographer will give you a card that will provide instructions on how to locate and order the image you want to send to your soldier.
5. You will also get a coupon to receive a duplicate print for yourself for free (compliments of Fujifilm).

My husband isn't deploying til January but I saved the site in case they offer it next year. This is a great offer and a wonderful find - Thank You!

Smeared4life, first of all, thank you for the sacrifices you, your husband and your family are making for this country.

IMHO, since he is deploying so close to the holiday season it seems to me that his receiving a family portrait is within the spirit of this offer from the PMDA. I would consider calling a few of the qualifying photographers near you and seeing if they would let your family sit for a photograph anyway. I can't imagine anyone being mean enough to say no, and this way hubby may get to be in the photo too!
