The red is for the postal request. It's not generally considered free by FW-ers if there's a postage requirement. This one's actually 88 cents, if you think of it that way.
I am a FW-er, and I would consider something that was free but required a small amount of postage to be free.
Does Fatwallet publish somewhere their definition of what can be called "free"? I have searched for it, but I don't see anything.
Has there been a member discussion on this issue? I have searched for it, but obviously the search function is not very helpful, and I didn't find anything.
This offer of free lip balm obviously isn't a "hot deal", and "deal discussion" is a grab-bag of stuff that most people don't look at, so I guess this offer would fall through the cracks if it can't be considered "free stuff". Is it better to exclude some deals from the site entirely, because they don't fit certain definitions? Maybe there should be an "all other deals" forum to capture these other deals.
I would suggest that people not give reds to obviously well-meaning people, when expressing their anger with the posts of those well-meaning people and when the reason for the anger isn't obvious, without also explaining why.

I think it qualifies as free, and I'm going for it. Thanks!

In the free stuff section, they do not generally include any offer that requires shipping/handling. To the most of us, 'free' is totally free, no charge whatsoever. There are lots of offers like this that ask for shipping/handling, and they usually get moved to the hot deals section.
Taken from the Free Stuff FAQ (button right on top beside the Free Stuff heading, very easy to find):
'What is NOT free stuff? Always-free stuff that everyone knows about (like air).
Evil stuff like spam, referral programs, pyramid schemes, etc.
Stuff that requires you to pay shipping, which could end up costing more than the value of the item.
Free stuff worth more than $10 …because that’s a Hot Deal!
I must be a little trigger happy with that enter button. Note to self: take a walk...
anywhoo, clarification: If it's just postage (a stamp or two), it can be in Free Stuff. If it requires a more substantional shipping charge, then it goes to Hot Deals.

Good to know...thanks for clearing that up for us.
Okay, now I see the little grey-ed out FAQ box next to "Forums > Free Stuff". I had not seen it before. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
My thoughts on what is "FREE":
To me, barring items that require shipping and handling is precluding things that cost more than 43 cents, like the $6.99 for those "free" silver earrings at peora.com, that kind of thing.
Also, when something is listed in Free Stuff but it requires that you drive somewhere to get it (like the free shirt if you test drove a Chrysler, or free concert tickets but you have to go pick them up, or the free flashlight they were giving out at Harbor Freight last month) -- do you say it's not free because you have to use 50 cents of gas and car depreciation to get there? No, you do not.
Or when something is listed in Free Stuff but you have to take a half hour survey on your computer, do you consider the pro-rated cost of your internet connection for that half hour, the electricity to power your computer, etc.? No, you do not.
Do you consider the time it takes to obtain some of this free stuff, like those crazy repetitive surveys for the free magazines, asking about watches and bottled water and ipods? [Those take me at least 15 minutes each (partly because I'm responsible to a fault and actually fill them out properly), but I don't pro-rate my hourly consulting work rate when I figure out whether they are free deals or not.] No, you do not.
