Offer not open to current AudibleListener members. Limit 1 audiobook per customer. Some audiobooks may not be available outside the United States and Canada. Offer expires November 26, 2009 at 11:59pm ET.

Thanks! Great selection. I went with an oldie (My Man Jeeves). Sign up and download were easy.

I guess I am missing where to sign up for free without a credit card.

You have to sign up for a new account. They never asked me for a credit card. I just added a book to the cart and checked out. The download began automatically. Then I got "Thank You. Your order is confirmed. Your credit card was charged: $0.00. The purchase reference number is AUD************."

Unfortunately you do not get a free audio book. You get a five minute download... in my case the author advertising the book. You don't know that until after you have made an account and "bought" the book. They do not state the download time until it is in your library and then you realize you have been snookered. Now I cannot figure out how to cancel the entire login account.

Go into "My Library" on the Audible page. The whole audiobook is there for download. I can attest that all 4+ hours of The Great Gatsby has been downloaded.

Further information: the file extension is .aa.

I had 2 files automatically download. One is 4:57 and is entitled "Your First Listen" which is a funny reading by the narrator of a series of letters to his (recently) ex-girlfriend. The other file is my chosen book, and it is over 5 hours long (05:05:59). Did you click 'sample' instead of 'add to cart?'

had to sign up as a new user....but it workedfine. Got Economic Hitman book. This will help on the 4.5 hour drive home for Thanksgiving.

has anyone who downloaded this offer been a former audible member? I'm not currently a member, but I used to be--the wording is tricky..."first time listeners"..."not open to current AudibleListener members"-which is it?

This isn't any audiobook for free. Very limited selection of free books.

I picked add to cart as if you pick sample it starts the audio sample right away. I also have the "Your First Listen," but interestingly enough this morning the book I picked...."Bran Hambric: Free Version (Unabridged)" is not on the list anymore. So maybe I just made a horrible choice. Only problem is now after I made an account I cannot go in and pick a real book. Sighhh....Wouldn't you know it out of all the good apples I pick the only rotten one. At least that book is not available anymore for other people to make the same mistake.

That's unfortunate. Maybe you can create a different account?

I am a former member and it worked fine for me. I got the whole scroogenomics book. It promptly put me to sleep last night.

Do you check "My Library" on the Audible page to see if the download is available there?

The only other way I can see being able to d/l another book is clearing your cookies and registering with a different address. They may track IP addresses though.

I don't want to download their media player. There's no way around that? Anyway, green for you just the same!

I don't think I downloaded any player. My file automatically opened in iTunes.

Thanks for the book!

No freaking way! I love you man...I totally love you! I let my autistic son pick the book he wanted as he loves audio books and it was so hard to try to tell him sometimes things don't go the way you want them. I cannot thank you enough. Going to load it to his iPod and surprise him. I'll tell him it was a gift from The Audible folks. Thanks again! You really made my day and seeing my son smile will make it twice as special.

Wow. Nice post. Gald your son got his book. Almost made me cry reading that. Happy Thanksgiving!!
