is the Home Imp. GC deal continuing this week or is it now dead? TIA

MISTERCHEAP (Nov. 25, 2012 @ 10:49a) |

It was only available during the 3-day Black Friday weekend sale.

MrVietnam (Nov. 25, 2012 @ 10:58a) |

That's what I thought too. But I have read many FWers saying that they were able to purchase GC using Lowe's GC (not HI ... (more)

So I guess their plan is for their shoppers to go elsewhere on Black Friday?

billrubin said:   So I guess their plan is for their shoppers to go elsewhere on Black Friday?

So let's break this down a little:

Walgreens has 17 free after Register Rewards items on Black Friday.

CVS has 31 free after Extra Buck items, and

Rite Aid has ZERO items free after +UPs.

Looks like CVS is the Drugstore to be at this Black Friday.

I saw an ad scan on another site that had:

Salon Grafix Hair Spray 1.5oz, Clear Shampoo or Conditioner 3oz, LA Looks Gel, Dep Gel or LaBella Gel 40oz $1.99 - $1UP = $0.99

$1.99 get $1.99 +up Limit 2 of EACH brand

If this is indeed true, then maybe Rite Aid has 8 freebies this year.

MrVietnam said:   $1.99 - $1UP = $0.99

Is it $1 or $1.99 +UP?

Actually, it *is* $1.99 +Up. The ad does not show the piece about the limits. Maybe there is a better scan elsewhere. I copy at IHRA is the same with that portion covered.

$2 coupon available here:

If you need more, just page back and you can click "get coupon" again. The print limit is *3*. YMMV on it working since I guess the sale item is probably a trial size which is excluded on the coupon.

Yes. on the coupon it clearly states it is for full-size products.

Home Improvement GC for $10 Reward on $50 card is ok. You can probably use it at Lowes to buy other GCs.

I plan to use the MC gc's I bought at Staples to buy HI gc at RA which I'll use to buy gas gc at Lowe's. Long way around but end up $40 ahead from buying the GC at Staples and > $100 ahead for buying the HI gc at RA. Better than the $50 I would have made just buying the gas outright w/ 5% back cc.

Good idea. I think I will do that too.

That's the same scan as everyone else from the idiot who put the sticker over the limit of the only free thing in the ad.

NOPE. This is good at several home improvement stores, but there are limits on the type of items you can use it for. Unless it has changed this year, only home improvement items are approved at the register. I used one last year at Lowe's and Ace.

Still a good deal if you have projects upcoming around the house.

Edit: was referring to the $50 home card/$10 UP rewards deal.

Actually I am not sure if what you said is true. I have used a $50 home card several months ago to pay for a $50 Staples gift card and it went through.

I called the Home Improvement GC customer service line and they told me that there are no fees associated with this card (inactivity or otherwise) and the funds never expire. He said if the card ever expires to call customer service and they can reissue a new gift card at no charge.

The card can be used at these retailers:

Home Depot
Sears
Ace
True Value
Lowes
Orchard Supply
Menards
Northern Tool & Equipment
Restoration Hardware
tractor supply Stores
Lumber Liquidators
Do It Best
84 Lumber
United Hardware
Aubuchon Hardware
Handy Hardware
Harbor Freight
Sherwin Williams
Kelly Moore
Dunn Edwards
Benjamin Moore
ToolUp.Com

By the way, on Saturday, November 24, 2012 only, Ace Hardware is having a sale (coupon required) in which you can get 50% off a regular priced item up to $30. See thread here. You could pay with your Home Improvement card.

I thought that by Federal law, gift cards can no longer expire or have fees? It's just rebate cards that they skipped over in the law.

What is nice about the Home Improvement card is there isn't even an activation fee. The Staples deal this week for the $100 MasterCard/Visa gift card has a $5.95 activation fee, but the limited stores you can use the Home Improvement card is definitely a big downside.

Don't get too excited about the Home Improvement cards..

I bought one that was labeled $20-500. I had them load 20, and did not get the +ups. It is tracking at on the receipt though (along with the iTunes card deal)! So i might just go get another 30, call it a day.

Maybe if you have flat value 20 dollar cards you will have luck..otherwise

No one else here in my State but once again we're not included in the HI gc deal. Ring up fine, +Up print but HI cards will not activate and register message is that its not valid in this state. I'd paid w/ a Staples $100 MC gc. They were unable to reload the card for the return. Have to give me a RA gc. When AM processes the refund the register added sales tax. So instead of $100 on gc I ended up w/ $106 on gc. Then she gave me the 2 $10 +Up. So I guess it works out ok. The card has "earned" its 2 $10 +Up limit, the $100 RA gc can be used to buy other gc and I made $6 in the deal. No different from if I'd ended up w/ $100 in HI gc and used them to buy gas gc at Lowe's-- only saves me the trip to Lowe's since I can buy gas gc at RA and I got $6 for my time.

What I wanted to find out was whether putting $20 or $25 on HI gc would trigger the +Up but since State is wonky tried the "legit" way first. So am still waiting to hear if loading less than $50 will get the +Up.

ETA: Just read that loading $20 did not trigger the +Up.

my4mainecoons said:    I'd paid w/ a Staples $100 MC gc. They were unable to reload the card for the return.

You can't reload the card when you return an item? Twice I have used one of the pre-paid MasterCards I got at Staples to pay for something and afterwards, returned the item and they posted a credit to the card for a return with no issues.

I just got back from Rite Aid and I can confirm that the LaBella Gel 40oz double dips. I got 2 and got back 2-$1.99 Ups and 2-$1 ups. My store had some of the Kushy Foot's priced at 4.39 but were not marked for the 4 up so I didn't try them. If you have gold and those ones work it could be a money maker. I was able to use the in-ad coupon for the Nivea Shave Gel and the $3 IP but it did beep but my cashier put it through and I got overage!

Staples can void the transaction so its like the MC gc was never used. RA can't do that cuz the sale went through, the MC gc was "emptied" but the HI card didn't activate. Same thing happened earlier this year when I paid w/ regular cc.

my4mainecoons said:   No one else here in my State but once again we're not included in the HI gc deal. Ring up fine, +Up print but HI cards will not activate and register message is that its not valid in this state. How can they have them in stock if they're not valid in your state???

They're in stock and stores don't know that they won't work. This is my 3rd time around. First time I thought it was one store but then same thing happened in several stores. I kept doing it even though I knew it wouldn't work cuz stores didn't know it wouldn't work and when it failed they tended to give me the +Up along w/ my refund Most of the stores pulled them once they didn't work.

Last time it didn't work locally, I jumped the border, cards were on display and it worked just fine so I guessed it was a state issue.

After being pulled I noticed the cards were out again and thought maybe they'd work this time around. So today I went to favorite store where they knew it had been an issue in the past. I really wanted to give them the sale. No luck but this was the first time a message actually came up saying that it was not valid in the state. Until today I was just guessing based on my experience.

Wet & Wild Nail Kits are counting towards the $5 wyb $15 Christmas Cosmetics Ups deal. Maxing out on the kit's Ups gives $6.98 tracking toward it.

Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent Liquid 45 - 50oz or Powder Paks 16-20ct 2/$6 - $3UP = 2/$3 Limit 2
Use (1) $1/3 Arm and Hammer Laundry Detergent products printable

The Arm and Hammer was a good deal. Bought 4 for 12 and got back $10 (2 3's and 2 2's). Used $1/3 man Q, so 4 detergents were for only a buck, which is a steal of a deal as regularly ONE bottle of this liquid detergent costs $6.99 at Rite Aid.

The double dip is not working with the detergent paks. It only works with the 45 or 50 fluid ounce liquid detergents. I bought two of the 45 fluid ounce fresh scent with Oxi Clean Stain Fighters (25 loads) and also two of the 50 fluid ounce clean burst scent (32 loads) and I got the extra $2 +UP for both.

When you do this deal:

Planters Assorted Holiday 3 Packs $5.99 - $3UP = $2.99 Limit 2

Don't forget to use the $1/2 ANY Planters nuts man Q that was in the 11/11 SS. It will bring down the price of the 3 pack of nuts to $2.49 each.

I found Hershey's Aerated candy bars with $.50 RC48 peelies..

3/$2.00
-$.50
-$.50
-$.50
=$.50, get back $1 +UP = Free + $.50 MM

Found more Minute Maid 4-packs w/ $0.50 freshness peelies. $0.30 ea (gold) after peelie and the $1 Minute Maid L2C came off.

Just reporting back that the the 50 fluid ounce For Sensitive Skin (Fragrance Free) (32 loads) variety is also producing the extra +UP...so basically ANY liquid will produce the extra +UP.

The 12 oz Original Gourmet cookie tin was supposed to ring up at $1.69, but on my receipt it rang as $3.49 each BOGO, So I had the manager give me the cents that were due me (I bought 4 tins).

Too bad I don't have a Lowe's nearby... might have to drive the hour to the nearest one:
Buy $200 MC/VC gc at Staples, use it to
Buy $50 HI gc at RA, get $10 +Up
Use $50 HI gc to buy $50 Staples gc at Lowe's
Use remaining $150 on MC/VC gc & $50 Staples gc to buy another $200 MC/VC gc at Staples...

Several variations possible.

Repeat for as many Wellness cards you have, limit 2 $10 +Up/card

sorry no money, you're wrong. you can, the system will take them, it's if the cashier/manaager shoots you down from doing so, yes it's highly YMMV, but it can be done.

NMIMW is citing the T&C. The T&C say you can't use a Staples gc to purchase gc. The register accepts them. I used Staples gc to pay activation fees on gc last week so IMO I didn't use it to pay for the gc itself. However, since the register accepts the Staples gc as payment its a personal choice as to whether you use one to pay for the gc itself. I equate it to using +Up to buy RA gc when the T&C say you can't use +Up to buy gc. I'm not driving to Lowe's as I've done the deal enough but I was just putting it out there as a possibility.

Yesterday I bought two HI GC for $20 each to see if the +UPS would print as they did sometime ago. I recd no +UPS.

Today, I buy three $20 HI GC (for a total now of $100) and received the two $10 +UPS WYB $50 GC. So far, so good...

My question is this. A friend with me bought one $100 HI GC and received only one $10 +UPS. They even asked the SM at checkout if the two +UPS would print. SM believed so and I also agreed since the CRT from yesterday on my order showed the $40 spent towards the $10 +UPS. Obviously it is tracking since I received the two +UPS once I had reached the $100 mark.

Now, shouldn't the second $10 +UPS have printed today on my friend's order? Of course we noticed once home but will go back later today.

Definitely a no go at my Staplez stores; they won't even allow a Visa/MC GC (Debit card) to purchase another Visa/MC GC.

Can confirm that the A&H detergent generated extra +Up. Bought the wrong $1.99 item. got the LA Looks instead of Labella. Will go back tomorrow and get the right one.

Is there any trick to purchase GC using Lowe's GC?

You can't use Lowe's gc to buy gc. You can use HI gc to buy gc cuz its really a re-branded Discover card. Generally you can't use store's gc's to buy other gc just like you *can't* use Staples gc's to buy other gc but you can use the MC/VC gc to buy other gc including MC/VC gc. You can't go down but not up the food chain, kwim?

That's what I thought too. But I have read many FWers saying that they were able to purchase GC using Lowe's GC (not HI card). So I'm wondering how they are able to do it.
