I went up to Customer Service at Harris Teeter and met with the "Rain Check Police" Manager.

I had shopped & stationed my shopping cart ...which was partially full of groceries, to come back and check out afterwards.

I had 3 items that were out of stock...the Manager asked me if I had looked on the shelves for the items and checked with the associate in that Department...Go Figure???

Then he starts typing slowly the product name into the computer, as if to check the product.... the computer gives him some "code"

then he writes a 9 digit "code" (I think it was nine) on the raincheck....

then he writes the rain check out as usual

this took extra time about 10 minutes for 3 products???

By this time, one of the other employees absconded with my basket of groceries and put them back on the shelf...

I was back to square one....retrieving my groceries....

I called Harris Teeter CS 1-800-432-6111... the message basically said we are on the phone with other customers.... leave your name & number ...we will get back with you.

*** If this bugs you too ...call & voice your opinion ....1-800-432-6111...

I then went through the e-mail process.... where it said in Red Letters
We are experiencing a very high volume of emails. We will respond as soon as we possibly can. Thank you for your patience.

Has anyone else had this problem??? What do you think about yet another step in the process???

I asked about this at my store, and I was told they are doing it to improve product availability on their end (at least the computer checking). For example, if they write 500 rainchecks for Bounty paper towels, that potentially equals 500 lost sales, and they want to be able to ask the Grocery Manager "why didn't you order more."

That said, I don't know what the purpose of the code written on the raincheck itself is.

Probably so when the rain check is redeemed the system will price correctly. I know that is how ummmm... cvs does it.

"stationed my shopping cart?"...just pay first and then go to customer service

The reason I "stationed my basket" was "customer service was quiet at the time"...and "the cash registers were full".
***I noticed while shopping....that customer service was very much backed up.....****

It seems to me that they could put a spread sheet together....
how many rain checks on each item and put it in at the end of the day....

They started this new 'system' during triples I believe, and it's a total pain. You should have seen the lines at CS during triples.... Ugh.
