Publix doubles coupons that are 50 cents or less? Really. I never knew. When did this start or is it that I have to specifically ask for it?

Publix in Georgia does double coupons up to 50 cents. Last week, I used many 50-cents coupons for Green Giant frozen vegetables (final 20 cents a bag after doubled coupon). Coupons said "DO NOT DOUBLE OR TRIPLE", but Publix just double them. I don't know if they double when doubled coupons exceed the cost of the item.
