In case anyone is looking for a larger screen with more storage and improved networking this may interest you. Not as great a deal as earlier in the year with 15% BCB but still ~$100 less than anywhere else around lately with the above features (less 1GB RAM which should suffice for most) which are beyond the 15.6" AS5732Z-4598 model above (for only $100 more).

Slightly different deal at Best Buy, for some people better deal than the Fry's deal. Slightly slower processor, double size hard drive, $50 cheaper.

I am comparing G62-144DX (@BB) and G62-147NR (@Frys). After tax & shipping 144DX is $30 cheaper and comes with more HD, but 147NR has i5 processor.
Speed is my top priority, but reviews on web suggest that base model of i5 is no better than i3. The turbo boost is not noticeable in most cases. I am intending to run some heavy GUI apps. Can someone comment on speeds of i5 430 vs i3 ???.
Updated Original Post as of 2:20PM 5/4. I verified prices, coupon codes, and added the "HP (G62-144DX) 15.6" Laptop w/ Core i3 (2.13GHz) $549.99 w/ Free Shipping at BestBuy.com" to the list.

Graphics Intel® HD Video Memory Up to 1696MB total available
What does this mean? How good is this video card? Can this laptop be used to play high end video games?

I was directed here by someone to see a great comparison of processors:
Based on that site I think you're right that the difference between the i3-330M and i5-430M is not very big. I think the bigger HD and $50 is a better deal.

This is Intel's latest integrated graphics (update of the GMA X4500-series). While significantly better then previous Intel integrated graphics, the new HD graphics is still not suitable for gaming and intensive 3D applications. Here are a couple good articles at Tomshardware and Notebookcheck.net with more info.

The Acer AS5740-5780 looks nice, but it's not available online (in-store only). And, we don't have any stores around here. Amazon has the i5 version of that laptop with 500gb drive for $632.00 (AS5740-6025). But, I don't think the i5 and 250 GB are worth the extra $130.

I definitely would not say Intel GMA HD is not suitable for gaming. It depends on the games. New 3D games? No. A few years old? Sure.
In Half-Life 2 or Counter Strike Source I get 90 FPS with GMA HD. It is much better than my two year old Dell with an nvidia 8400 dedicated card.
I used to hate seeing these roundups on laptops and desktops. My thoughts were they just group together other user's postings, and pretty soon others would do this for, well.... everything. I never said anything because others seemed to like it.
However, consider me a fan. I find myself checking these even though I'm not looking for either a laptop or desktop. You do a good job just summarizing. Keep up the good work.

Good enough to watch HD videos with no significant lag?

Thanks for this. All of the review sites usually just say something like "got 15fps in crysis on medium" or "got a 3dmark06 score of...." While useful in comparing to current dedicated cards, posting wwhat actually works well is more important to me (especially since I am a zombie panic source addict and thats hte only game I would play on a notebook anyway )

Would love to know how does this one compares to the others.

Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3GHz, 800MHz, 3MB L3 Cache)
13.3" (1366 x 768) LCD Display w/ LED Backlight
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB 5,400RPM Hard Drive
8 Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
It is very similar to the Toshiba Satellite (T135-S1307) w/ SU4100, but with the slightly better SU7300 CPU (1MB more L2 Cache, comes with 4GB instead of 3GB of RAM, and supports virtulization for XP mode in Win7). The Asus boasts up to 12 hours of battery life, as opposed to only 9 hours on the Toshiba.
As for the price, it looks pretty good to me; About $50 more then the SU4100 is consistent with pricing. For about the same price you could get a laptop with a core i5 CPU, but it would not have the extended battery life and portability of the UL30A.

I was having trouble finding that out myself. The manufacture page was no help, but this review from OfficeDepot claims that it is 7,200RPM. I'm not sure how accurate that is though.

I agree with your opinion completely, am going to look for a Core i5 cpu laptop now. the mobility is not so important for me along with battery life, so maybe better processor is worth waiting for.. any idea of can get a good deal on the Core i5 right now, my heart is going to buy a Toshiba/ASUS based on the ratings which these received for issues in laptop repairs. surprisingly when I need one, nothing shows up, lol.. the only problem is my forced budget of 600.. cannot spend more right now..or pay 30% interest to the bankers ):
