Office Depot - Toshiba Satellite L505-LS5021 Laptop (T4400, 15.6", webcam) $372 after BCB + Tax Office Depot has the following Toshiba laptop for $399.99, $372 after 7% BCB + Tax. This laptop has a webcam and no rebate. I think it is a good deal. Office Depot also has a HP laptop with the similar spec., $399.99 after $50 rebate.
Also, I've heard differing opinions on the performance of the T4400 processor. In realistic terms, is an i3 or i5 processor going to outperform it noticeably in normal everyday use? I've been wondering if I should focus on spending the money on an i3 or i5 lappy but I'm worried that I won't gain enough performance to justify spending the extra cash on a value laptop.
I haven't seen anything negative about the T4100 or T4400. Most people anything more is way above their heads. They just want to buy something but didn't make efficient use of what they had. My example: I am on 3 year old desktop with Intel Celeron 450, optomized components and very little investment. It is not slow and very efficient. We use faster, but for everyday computing, this is my choice cos it uses much less energy and does same work. On other side, I don't believe in $50-75 cheaper laptop with good processor The Toshiba 14 or 15.6 with T4100 or T4400 around $400 or $430 is best. Better construction, reliability and much better ergonomics.
. Yeah, the core i3 is faster, but ( there's that 'but' ) the CPU isn't the only thing in the pipe that will cause a slowdown, eh? How-some-ever, it does seem like a nice price. Green, OP! -- Here's some benchmarks: b'marks Couldn't see the T4400 but it'll give you an idea.
I'll vouch for the reliability of the T4400. This is the same processor that was in the $299 wally world special a few months back. So far for my daily use it has been very fast & plenty for what I need it for (MS Office, streaming on hulu, veetle, and live365 while I let my torrents dl). I suppose most of those things are more a function of the graphics card, but overall I have been very satisfied with this processor given the crappy graphics card.

I need a webcam and microphone and do not like the $399 HP keypad quality/weight. Decided and bought the $499 (after $50 MIR) HP core i3 14" notebook with the free HP printer ($30 w/ $30 rebate). There is also a Toshiba $299 2G memory AMD dual-core 2Ghz 250G HDD on sale today at Frys online and in-store link.
Ive been kinda wanting a new laptop and I am not sure I am going to keep it but, I picked one of the Toshiba's up today.
My OD is usually pretty nice and there are many printable OD coupons floating around the net. I printed out one that is $45 off $300 and they let me use it(even though it clearly states not valid on computers/electronics). YMMV on the coupon probably.
Decent deal. Came to about $402 total after tax/etc.
Forget this.I DON'T THINK IT IS DUAL CORE. I think that is old processor, maybe 4-5 year. Very slow. T4100 or T4400 runs rings around it. Only good Sempron is AM3 Sempron 140 for desktop which is dual core with one core disabled.
Intel Pentium T4400 has 2 cores (is same as core-2 Duo in 45nm process but w/ some features such as virtualization VT turn off) has score of 1544. The low-end Fry's Toshiba AMD 45nm Sempron M100 has 2 cores (?? could be 1 core ??) with the score of 594. The Intel core-i3 M330 (with graphics and CPU in the same package/substrate) has 2 cores with the score of 2011. PassMark
It is definitely worth the extra $100 if you need a lighter notebook, nice shell, and faster multi-media play (for core i3 HP Pavilion dv4-2164us $499 MIR including $0 MIR HP printer).
However, most today's CPUs are good enough for common web news surfing and email.
I wish Asus, MSI, or Acer have similar 14" notebook models on-sale (I said this since I have a HP office notebook).

To the ones who have bought one and opened one, can you tell us if it does have a webcam?

Emphasis added above, the M100 processor is a single core, NOT A DUAL CORE. I really wish posters would get that right, you're confusing the hell out of people.

Got this for my cousin's graduation gift, as she unboxed it, I noticed there is NO WEBCAM. This will be going back to OD today.

The OD ad was just changed. http://www.OfficeDepot.com/a/products/753039/Toshiba-Satellite-L505-LS5021-156-Widescreen/ It was in the description as a highlighted bulletpoint; someone also added a review. What is the diff between HP and this? I bought HP computer and the microphone is a joke...there is no point in having broken microphone.
Toshiba build quality is far better in my opinion.
Today I got an older lady who said they do not take any tech coupons.... OK, I went back 4 hours later and got a nice lady who did take it without any hesitation.

For almost all the models, OD is $50 cheaper. If the coupon works in OD, who will buy from staple?

Is it worth getting a 2 year protection plan through OD (for the Toshiba L505? It's $129.00.

I got in on a markdown at Radio Shack last year and wish I could find something similar for the same price but keep wishing. Acer aspire 4810tz-4696 for $300 bucks in box shipped to my house.
