I use this stuff after grilling (smoke) or during cold/flu season and it seems to provide relief. I need to read some more, but I saw something recently that said doing it too often can flush the good bacteria from your sinuses.
Edit: To be specific, I use the NeilMed one (AMZ#B000ITHH86), which is more expensive than this one.
Been using a neti pot for several years pretty much daily and it seems to have helped my sinuses. Helps a lot during dry weather after mowing grass or raking leaves in the fall. However I use my own homemade mix. Warm tap water, picklin salt with a lil baking soda. It's a lot cheaper.

The sinuses are sterile and should contain no bacteria unless you have an infection. The sinuses are not like the colon and rectum which are laden with "good" bacteria.

could you share your recipe? thank you. I am using about a 3 to 1 ratio. 3 parts pickling salt and 1 part baking soda. I use warm tap water but originally started with distilled water which would probably be better because of the chlorine in the tap water, but I have not noticed any problems with just tap water. I use about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon and a full netti pot( about 8 oz)of water. As Kralik stated all you really need is non-iodized salt. I mostly use it at night to wash out any contaminants from the day. When I feel a cold or sinus infection coming on I go to twice a day morning and night. Don't want to gross anyone out but I have on occasion seen some fairly ugly green things wash out.

For nasal irrigation I've used a glass contraption called a Birmingham Nasal Douche for the past 30 years.
Combine that with Alkalol - an OTC mucus solvent- and it clears out your sinuses completely. This is useful when a cold causes thicker green/yellow discharge.
Here's a recommendation, don't blow your nose. That's how stuff gets into your sinuses initially (the backpressure from blowing forces stuff up there that shouldn't be). Otherwise, good luck with this! I clicked because I have an OCD mother-in-law who 'washes' every orifice on her body daily with a variety of tools/chemicals. I half expected to see jokes in here.
This is a very good price (especially compared to Walgreens).
I've used a Neti pot for a few years and have been amazed at the results. I used to have 2 - 3 sinus infections a year but now I don't even take any sinus medicine.
A hint I give to friends when trying for the first time is to exhale through your mouth as you are starting the flow from the Neti pot. This properly closes that back of the throat so none of the solution runs down your throat.
Take this advice with caution, but I had a doctor suggest I work towards including one drop of tea tree oil in the Neti pot. If you try this, don't use the extra-strength tea tree oil and build up tolerance over time.
