I realize these prices have been around for a while (a year? two?) and that normally a HOT DEAL on these are in the $30 neighborhood. HOWEVER, It was announced today that starting Nov 1, Microsoft is increasing prices on these 12 month subscriptions by $10 (Announcment from Major Nelson). 1 Year increases to $59.99, 3 months to $24.99, and 1 month rises to $9.99.
This is speculation, but that probably means that all these retailers will be raising prices in the coming months. I searched around and these $40 price is the lowest I can find right now and it may be a good idea to stock up now.
Remember, you can stack up to 3yrs worth on a single xbox live account.
Subtotal: $39.94 Shipping: Free Tax: $0.00 Order Total: $39.94 You can still order from Amazon if you change the seller to Amazon, but it does say the delivery estimate is "September 15, 2010 - September 29, 2010". And thanks, I didn't see the $1.99 shipping for Newegg. I'll update the OP accordingly.
Thanks for the heads up op. It's ridiculous that Microsoft is raising prices of xbox live. They should be lowering prices if anything. PSN Network in comparison is and always has been free. I've used both, and the PSN network is not as good, but xbox live isn't THAT much better. $60/year works out to $240 over 4 years- that's about the price of the console. I've seen PS3 slim deals for $240. I will not renew my live and will be switching to Sony the next console I buy.

Unless you're a kid without a credit card. But how many kids check FW?
Not to Nitpick, but if you're a kid without a credit card how are you going to buy them through any of these deals to begin with? Unless you're gifting, might as well buy from the 360 splash screen deal.
Crazykole5 said: You can pay for a year subscription for the same price through xbox live You could... but personally, I'd rather not give MS my credit card info. Plus they automatically sign you up for autorenew (and they'll charge you $60 next time) and it's a minor hassle to disable it.
avhokie said: Any reason you can't buy like 10 of these c]ards and activate one per year? yeah you could probably do that. I don't think these have expiration dates. Of course you run the risk of losing them, or MS replacing xbox live with something completely different over the course of the decade.
Damien666 said: Yeah I dont get how paying the regular price is a good deal? Well, technically regular price is $50 (about to increase to $60). I understand your point, but based on today's announcement, it seems like it's very unlikely that we'll be seeing those $30 sales again and these $40 price probably will be as rare as the $30 sales are now (my speculation). Maybe it's still technically not a "hot deal" but I was hoping to inform people of this new development and help make decisions either way.
Thank you for being a valued member of Xbox LIVE Gold. We hope you are enjoying the many exciting and exclusive features that are included in your membership. We wanted to let you know about an upcoming price increase for your Xbox LIVE Gold subscription and how you can lock in your current price to continue enjoying everything you've come to love about Xbox LIVE, plus all the upcoming additions including ESPN.com and Hulu Plus.
Over the past seven years, Xbox LIVE has evolved from an online gaming platform to an all-in-one gaming and entertainment service. As an Xbox LIVE Gold member, you can not only play blockbuster games, such as Halo: Reach with your friends online, you can also stream movies from Netflix* and music from Last.fm right to your TV. You can even connect with friends near and far on Facebook® and Twitter™. Plus, you also enjoy exclusive discounts and early access to game demos.
And we aren't even close to being done. This holiday, Xbox LIVE is adding new Gold features, including ESPN.com and Video Kinect, with Hulu Plus coming on Xbox LIVE in 2011.
• With ESPN.com on Xbox LIVE, you can stream and watch over 3,500 live and on-demand sporting events plus highlights.*
• Video Kinect allows you to chat with family and friends on the big screen, right from the comfort of your living room—no headset or controller required.*
• With Hulu Plus on Xbox LIVE you will be able to enjoy a customized Hulu Plus experience that will include Kinect navigation and Xbox LIVE Parties*
Besides launching the new features and titles, we will also be increasing the price of Gold membership on November 1, 2010. The new prices are as follows:
I don't think I've ever heard of increased prices as a console's life went along... then again, I guess there's never been anything quite like XBOX Live before. I don't play many games on XBOX Live besides maybe Halo 3 and Super Street Fighter IV.
Maybe I'll start watching Netflix on PS3 and sell my XBOX SSF4 copy and buy a PS3 one.

I bought two from WalMart.com for $37/ea. (one for me, one for my Nephew) I'm lazy and didn't want to have to go to the store to get them so I also paid $5 for shipping directly to my house. The total was $80 and some odd cents. Our current subscriptions wont expire for another 9 months but I read that you can apply up to two years at a time so I should be able to apply them right away and be covered until May of 2012.

Yes and they won't charge you until any current subscriptions have expired, so you could theoretically have 3 years stacked up before hitting the $40 renewal.

$10 a year increase for what XBOX Live brings to the table and continues to improve upon is worthwhile for me. Now all of a sudden everyone wants to play PS3 for free over the internet. Good Luck with that! The PSN is a joke compared to LIVE. You don't think soon enough they will be charging? It's less than a dollar a month people... When was the last time they have had an increase? Do they keep improving the LIVE experience? I would rather spend an extra $10 a year for solid entertainment then $12 for a 2 hour crappy movie! or $80 for an over priced NBA game! or $150 for an NFL game. I am fine with their increase in addition to that they are even offering it's member a discount for renewal... Flame On!

Good luck finding people to play with on PS3 network. Even better luck with lag and network stability. I have both systems and I'm basically done with playing PS3 games online if I have the choice.
I'm not happy about the Xbox Live price hike at all, but as someone who owns both systems I always buy multiplatform online games on the Xbox just because the online service, friends management, and group/party management is so much better. I make all my money back on my Xbox Live subscription every year with the weekly game sales for Gold members, so it's basically a wash for me.

So true. My PS3 is for campaign games, blu-rays, and Netflix. Online is a joke.

Is Hulu plus going to be an additional charge? I'm excited that Hulu is coming to the Xbox... allows me to finally stop pissing with PlayOn. I'm not going to be happy if they increase the price AND charge for Hulu plus.

Thanks for the heads up on the price increase OP
Yes, Hulu plus will be $9.99/mo. Sony is adding it to their internet capable blu-ray players as well.
Thanks for the heads up. I usually re-activate my xbox live membership during christmas holidays when I have plenty of time to play. I'll be sure to grab one before November!

Microsoft isn't charging for Hulu Plus, Hulu is charging for Hulu Plus. I like Hulu with PlayOn, but I'd never pay for their service. They just don't have enough of the shows that I watch.

$10 isn't much, I think it's still worth it as well. But $80 for an NBA game is worth it and $150 for NFL is worth it. Don't judge those things, that's real life... real life is always worth it -- you only get one of those.
DrJr said: How is this hot? Red please. Well, I think I've explained my reasoning for why I posted in the OP, but if you don't like it go ahead and "red" it. I couldn't care less. Since yesterday, both Amazon and Newegg's 12month subscription cards have gone out of stock, even though it's been at that price for a long time. Some people must think it's a deal worth stocking up on.

You can use USB stick up to 2gb now, just put it in your USB port and format. You need latest dashboard to do it.
I thought it was up to 16GB? Yes, I believe the limit is 16gb. I used a 20gb drive recently to transfer files from my old xbox to my new slim and it was only able to see 16gb.
benbencute said: Can anyone suggest me what is the best place to get the memory card? Thank you.
Any place you can find a USB stick that you like. After the Spring update Xbox360's no longer are restricted to MS only memory cards. I used an old Patriot 4GB stick for a spare Xbox 360. The 360 stated that the memory was not "fully compatible" (it is pretty old) but games and everything else saved fine and shows up no problem in the memory section of the dashboard.

For people like me who play 1 or 2 games on live, I could give 2 sheets what other services they offer or plan to add in the future. I miss the days of free Gamespy.
I have a feeling there will be $30 deals before November. The current cards have RRP $49.99 printed on them...a reason why MS will want these gone quick.

not to mention you HAVE to have the disk in to use Netflix WOW
