NO. This tool does a much better job of getting the undercoat groomed. I'm amazed at how much hair comes off with it vs "normal" tools. My two cats have very different hair types and this helps with both. The little one with a heavier undercoat feels smooth as silk when I've used it on her.
It's not too much like a clipper. However, make no mistake that it IS cutting your pet's fur. We have regular cats with short hair/fur (not super fluffy). When properly using this brush on them, it certainly removes the loose hair and cuts a little extra. We don't get anything near what those pictures (looks like bags of fur next to the pet) show. A fair amount more than a "regular" brush, though.
It is not like a clipper in that it trims the overall length of the coat (like taking a pet to the groomer). It is more like a thinner. Similar to those annoying thinning scissors at the (human) hair salon.
After having bought one from Butcherboy's post a couple weeks ago, I can attest to the Furminator's ability to remove an unbelieveable amount of undercoat fur from a cat. We have a Maine Coon mix and the Furminator took off enough hair and fur to make 2 bowling ball shaped piles - and that was just after the first use!! Our cat now looks thinner, has a shinier coat and is overall much happpier.
We still find little puffs of his hair on the carpet once in awhile, but nothing compared to the amount we found before using it.
